Nellie Kate Frederick Collins, 81
Nellie Kate Frederick Collins, 81, a resident of Lexington, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003.
She was the widow of William "Bill" Wilson Collins. They were married
for 45 years. She was born on June 16, 1922, in Robertson County, the daughter of the late John and Bertie Wright Frederick. She was a salesperson at Lazarus Department Store in Lexington and was an active member of Broadway Baptist Church and the Joy Class.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wilson Glenn and Jane Pyles Collins of Maysville, a daughter and son-in-law, Betty Collins and Raymond Hornback of Lexington, six grandchildren, Katherine Hornback and R.R. Hornback of Lexington and James Collins, Daniel Collins, John Collins and Elizabeth Collins of Maysville, three great-grandchildren, Brett Collins, Kaitlyn Collins and Jared Collins, four of her eight sisters, Veda Wolfe of Dayton, Ohio, and Amy Barnes, Loretta Tilton and Norma Moore, all of Cynthiana, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Milward Mortuary on Southland Drive in Lexington. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 5-8 p.m. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Collins, John Collins, R.R. Hornback, Jason Rothrock and Raymond Hornback. Honorary pallbearers will be James Collins, Amanda Collins Porter, Bill Nichols, Jerry Crouch, Peggy Palsgrove, James Pyles, Raymond C. Hornback and Arthur Barnes.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
Janice Franklin Coffey, 62
Janice Franklin Coffey, 62, a resident of Locust Street, Cynthiana, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at her residence.
She was born on May 16, 1941, in Harrison County, a daughter of the late Lillard and Minnie Kiskaden Franklin. She was a retired 3M Co. employee.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Yazell of Cynthiana, Robin Bartolome of Florida and Lisa Blake of Cynthiana, and four grandchildren, Brandi Rayburn, Justin Coffey and Brittany and Ryan Blake.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Tim Humphries. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 9, 5-8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Davis, Christopher Morris, Chris and Jeff Kiskaden, Jimmy Joe Hollow and Levi Biesker.
Geneva Agnes Tarr Hopkins, 76
Geneva Agnes Tarr Hopkins, 76, a resident of Shimfessel Court, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.
She was born in Bracken County March 9, 1927 to the late George W. and Vada Hamilton Tarr. She was a retired 3M Company employee.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Allen Hedges, two brothers, Kenneth Tarr and Bernice Tarr, and a sister, Mildred Cooper.
Survivors include her husband, Odell Hopkins, a son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Cindy Hedges of Richmond, a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Danny Bailey of Georgetown, a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Mae and Kenneth Henderson, six grandchildren, Brian Hedges, Dawn Hedges, Cynthia Hedges, Daryll Hedges, Amanda Bailey and Samantha Turley, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Ware Funeral Home by Brian Gorman. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian K. Hedges, Daryll Hedges, Billy Joe Turley, James House, Ken Benosky and George Spegal.
Ruby Gaunce Fryman, 84
Ruby Gaunce Fryman, 84, a resident of Mt. Sterling, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 at her residence.
She was born June 23, 1919 in Harrison County to the late Ode and Sally Jane Marshall Gaunce. She was the widow of Lawrence Fryman. She was a retired family caregiver.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Reynolds Gaunce and Walter Gaunce, and two sisters, Mae Lovely and Rosie Bishop.
Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Vest of Carlisle, Betty Eubanks of Bourbon County, and Patty True of Mt. Sterling, two sons, David Fryman of Cynthiana and Joe Fryman of Paris, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Allean Platt of North Middletown.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals, Inc. in Mt. Sterling by Rev. Ray McIntosh. Burial was in Salem Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Donald Gaunce, Carlos Platt, Randy Herrington, Rex Rothwell, Charles Sexton and Timmy Blankenship. Honorary pallbearers were Melvin Olson, David Allen Fryman, Ronnie Platt, John Fryman, Willie Hawkins and Robbie Snapp.
Mary Ellen Franklin, 90
Mary Ellen Franklin, 90, a resident of Grandhaven Nursing Home, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 15, 1913 in Clay City to the late Dave and Nettie Spurgeon White.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin, a daughter, Christine Fuller, two brothers, C.J. and Jim White, a sister, Martha Kash, and a great-grandson, Kenneth Douglas Arvin.
Survivors include a son, Harold (Gene) White of Cynthiana, a daughter, Nettie Smith of Miamisburg, Ohio, a sister, Flossie Padgett of Stamping Ground, eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. Larry Lee Jones. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Eddie Nickerson, Jimmy Fuller, Roger Fuller, Taylor Arvin, Roy Arvin Jr. and Bo Adams. Honorary pallbearers were Earl Fuller, Ryan Smith and Mike Smith.
Charles Anna Wilson, 87
Charles Anna Wilson, 87, a resident of Grand Haven Nursing Home, Cynthiana, died Friday, May 30, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Harrison County, May 27, 1916, to the late Charles A. and Mary Hannah Huff Wilson. She was a former homemaker and a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James Marks; three sisters, Jane Wilson, George Anna Adair and Velma Williams; and a grandson, Victor Frazier.
Survivors include: Two sons, Jerry (LaTanya) Harris, Lexington and Stevie Harris, Cynthiana; four daughters, Jean (Glayton) Adams, Lexington and Vickie Wash, Terry Harris and Dixie (Keith) Frazier, all of Cynthiana; a brother, James Robinson, Cynthiana; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and her church family.
Services were conducted Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at the Ebenezer United Methodist Church by Rev. Elgan Reynolds, under the direction of Ware Funeral Home with burial in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Talbott, Goodie Johnson, Bobby Moore, Alfonzo Bowman, Harry Hall and Dr. A.C. Wright.

Frances Katherine Works, 83, a resident of East Pike Street, Cynthiana, died Friday, May 6, 2003, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Harrison County, February 19, 1920, to the late Clarence and Bernice Works Pope. She was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Works; a brother, Clay Pope; and a sister, Lucille Fralix.
Survivors include: A son, James Works, Cynthiana; two daughters, Brenda Works, Cynthiana and Nancy (George) Hehr, Harrison Co.; and a brother, Cecil Pope, Harrison Co.
Services were conducted Friday, May 9, 2003 at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. Larry Jones, with burial in Battle Grove Cemetery.
