Sr. Mary Lawrence Curran, O.P., 90

Sr. Mary Lawrence Curran, OP, 90, died May 30, 2004, at Sansbury Care Center on the grounds of St. Catharine Motherhouse near Springfield.

A native of Omaha, NE, she was a Dominican of St. Catharine and teacher.

Funeral services were held June 3 in the Sansbury Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Dominican Sisters, Office for Ministry Support, 2645 Bardstown Road, St. Catharine, Ky. 40061-9435.

Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home, Springfield, was in charge of the arrangements.

Bedford W. 'Buck' Smith, 62

Bedford W. 'Buck' Smith, 62, a resident of Foster, Ky., died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, Ky.

He was born in Bracken County, Nov. 26, 1940, to the late Charlie W. Smith Sr. and Martha Hutchison Smith. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Norman and Charlie W. 'Billy' Smith, Celesta Askin, and Dorothy Smith.

Survivors include: Capitola Todd and Sylvia Frederick, both of Brooksville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted Friday, May 30 at Moore and Parker Funeral Home in Augusta, Ky. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Augusta.

Memorials may be made to Augusta Fire Department.

Lee Roy Whalen, 55

Lee Roy Whalen, 55, a resident of Milford, Ky., died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Harrison County, May 6, 1947 to Ella Lyle of Brooksville. He was a former carpenter at Baker Concrete, a member of Milford Christian Church, a former Local 698 Union Steward, and a Vietnam War Navy veteran.

Survivors include: his wife, Rosa Smith Whalen of Milford; a son, James E. Williams Jr. of Lexington; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Rhoda and Gilbert A. Crump of Berry, Sherri D. and Joey Franklin of Harrison County, Marie and Larry Winkle of Falmouth, and Janie Nunnelley of Milford; a brother, Ricky Lyle of Cynthiana; eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 16 at Ware Funeral Home by Bro. Greg Perkins. Burial was in Bracken Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Pallbearers were: Larry Winkle, Joey Franklin, Gilbert A. Crump, Brandon Winkle, Rodger Colemire, and Bart Brumley.

Honorary pallbearers were: Gene Dale Moore, George Brumley, Neil Brumley, James E. Williams Jr., George Flinchum, Roy Strong, and Norman Carr.

Military services were conducted by American Legion Post 109, Falmouth.

Harry James Parker, 78

Harry James Parker, 78, a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, died Friday, April 4, 2003 at the University Hospital.

He was a native of Millersburg, Ky., son of the late French Thompson Parker Sr. and Elizabeth Thomas Parker.

Survivors include: one son, Jamie Green of Cincinnati; two sisters, Mary Pete Parker Reeves of Carlisle, and Bessie I. Parker of Cincinnati; one sister-in-law, Lillian W. Parker of Cynthiana; and several generations of nieces and nephews including Anna E. Rawls, Freida Rogers, Elder Mark (Goldie) Rogers Jr., all of Paris, Marion P. Rogers of Lexington, and Charles Robert Parker Jr. of Cincinnati; and a host of cousins and friends.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 10 at Woods Chapel CME Church in Millersburg. Burial was in Eighth Street Cemetery.

O.L. Hughes and Sons Mortuary, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

John William 'Bill' Childers, 66

John William 'Bill' Childers, 66, a resident of Falmouth, Ky., died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at St. Luke Hospital East in Ft. Thomas, Ky.

He was born on Jan. 12, 1937 in Indiana, son of the late James and hallie O'Neal Childers. He was a retired truck driver, and a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Butler.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Childers, James Childers, and Steve Childers, and a sister, Marilyn Hendricks.

Survivors include, two daughters, Brigitte Hart of Falmouth, and Christina Oaks of Demossville; three sons, Kelly Childers, Aaron Childers, and Shawn Childers, all of Falmouth; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Hogle, Dorothy Robinson, Betty Mariannes, Phyllis Harvey, and Bonnie Childers, all of Indianapolis, Ind.; and brothers, Donald Childers of Rising Sun, Ind., and Milburn Childers of Indianapolis, Ind.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 12 at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, by Don Hogle. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Harold Young 'Sug' Brown, 74

Harold Young 'Sug' Brown, 74, a resident of Lebanon, Ky., died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

He was born on July 16, 1928 in Casey County, Ky., son of the late Cleaver Mattingly and Clyde Murphy Brown. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Brown.

Survivors include: one brother, Vernon Brown of Lebanon; two sisters, Jean Donovan of Danville, Ky., and Sue B. Wilson of Lebanon; a sister-in-law, Thaddues Brown of Cynthiana; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 13 at Bosley Funeral Home by Dr. David Whitlock and assisted by the Rev. Robert M. Donovan Jr. Burial was in Ryder Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Lebanon Baptist Church, the ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) Association of Kentucky, P.O. Box 910130, Lebanon, Ky. 40591, the American Heart Association, or Hospice of Central Kentucky.

Pallbearers were: Derek Donovan, Larry Kirk, Lane Franklin, Jerry Brown, Jonathan Kirk, and Ronnie Franklin.

Honorary pallbearers were: Kenny Mattingly, Billy Woodrum, Allen Carey, Elmer George, Bill Parman, Larry Abell, Stanley Lee, Allan Courtwright, Jimmy Cross, William 'Hose' Mattingly, Junior Puryear, Mike Ferrell, Mike Drury, Kenneth George, Dr. John Polk, Morris Owen, Clark Crum, Dr. John Angel, Sam Bowie, Allen Thompson, Fred Elder, Joe Paul Daughterty, John Turner, Dale Shofner, Dr. Salem George, Mike Lee, Ike Owen, Robert Donovan, Bill Loper, Tim Childers, Leon Wheatley, Louis Blandford, and Charles L. 'Bubba' Browning.

Harold Gano Robey, 84

Harold Gano Robey, 84, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at the Georgetown Community Hospital.

He was born in Harrison County, Feb. 27, 1919, son of the late Amos and Lula Grace Hiles Robey. He served during World War II as a member of the United States Air Force, a retired employee of the VA Hospital, was a retired employee the VA Hospital where he worked as a nurses assistant, and a menber of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Betty Lizer Robey; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Danny Sharp, and Tammie and John Hommrich; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Wayne and Melanie Robey, and Stephen Layne and Donna Robey, all of Georgetown; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted Saturday, Feb. 12 at Tucker, Yocum and Wilson Funeral Home by the Rev. William Thorn. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana.

Pallbearers were: Robert Watson III, Kenneth Watson, John Hommrich, Jon Bentley, James Mullins, and Danny Sharp.

Honorary pallbearers were: Keith Bradford, Kevin Bradford, Robbie Howard, Tim Lizer, and Todd Lizer.
