Bill Sowder, 77
Bill Sowder, 77, a resident of Rushville, Ind., died Aug. 30, 2004.
He was born Sept. 21, 1926 in Cynthiana, Ky., son of the late Jack Sowder and Frances Mulligan. He was a self-employed truck driver and painter, a World War II veteran with the Army Paratroopers, and was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Survivors include: his wife, Wanda Sowder; six sons, Ron Sowder of Tipp City, Ohio, Bob and Brian Sowder, both of Rushville, Mike and Tim Sowder, both of Greenfield, Ind., and Terry Sowder of Richwood, Ohio; three daughters, Karen (Mike) Spaeth and Karla (David) Kuhn, both of Rushville, and Kathy (Kirk) Shuppert of Greenfield; three brothers, Oscar Sowder of Dayton, Ohio, Tom Sowder of Germantown, Ohio, and Woody Sowder of Eaton, Ohio; three sisters, Ruby (Norville) Weber, Evelyn Wells, and Georgia Wade, all of Cynthiana; and 19 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m. at Moster and Cox Mortuary in Rushville, by the Rev. Allen Phillips. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Arlington East Hill Cemetery in Arlington, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Decatur County or the Holli Spaeth Memorial Scholarship through the Rush County Community Foundation.
Marie 'Fay' Earlywine Berry, 83
Marie 'Fay' Earlywine Berry, 83, a resident of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Harrison County, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
She was the daughter of the late Lewis and Julia Riley Earlywine.
Survivors include: one son, J.C. Bowling, and one daughter, Judy Bowlan Eubanks of Bakersfield.
Services were conducted Friday, Aug. 20. Burial was in the River View Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Dianne Lemmonds Burgess, 62
Dianne Lemmonds Burgess, 62 of Hinton-Webber Road, Corinth, died Thursday Aug. 19, 2004, at her home after a long illness.
A native of Bridgeton, NJ, she was born July 5, 1942, and was the daughter of the late John & Carrie Bennett Lemmonds. She was a member of the Stonewall First Church of God.
Survivors include: her husband, Buck Burgess; two sons, Brian and David Burgess, both of Corinth; three grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob and Isabella Burgess; an aunt, Betty Novaska, Bridgeton, NJ and several cousins.
Funeral services were cinducted Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Johnson's Funeral Home in Georgetown by Pastor Jessie C. Rogers. Burial was in Porter Cemetery, Scott County.
Pallbearers were Brian Burgess, David Burgess, Charles W. "Sonny" Bennett, Jr., Mike Brown, Johnny Rogers, Tim Rogers and Roy Ferguson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
David E. Carpenter, Jr., 82
David E. Carpenter, Jr., 82, died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 24, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late David E. and Harriet Lothrop Carpenter. He attended Covenant Presbyterian Church, was an honorably discharged World War II veteran, a member of St. Andrews Masonic Lodge Number 18, Oddfellows Lodge Number 127, Frankfort V.F.W. post, and a retired employee of Ladish Company.
Survivors include: his wife, Elsie Griggs Carpenter; two sons, Keith M. Carpenter and his wife, Gloria of Winchester, and Stephen J. Carpenter and his wife Pam of Lexington; three grandchildren, Quinn D. Carpenter and his wife Gina, Ryan M. Carpenter and Tracy J. Carpenter and one great-grandchild, Courtney B. Carpenter.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Green Mound Cemetery, New Richmond, Ohio, by Rev. David Sabella.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of St. Andrews Masonic Lodge Number 18 and Oddfellows Lodge Number 127.
Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fenton R. Miles, 83
Fenton R. Miles, 83, a resident of Falmouth, Ky., died Aug. 19, 2004, at Harrison Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 1, 1920 in Pendleton County, Ky., son of the late Albert and Amanda King Miles. He was a member of Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County, and a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Charlie, Howard, and Raymond Miles.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Norma Anderson Miles; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tommy Milner; two grandchildren, Bradley Milner and Rebecca Milner; and his brother, Shelby Miles, all of Falmouth.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 23 at Antioch Mills Christian Church, Harrison County, with Bro. Jason Anderson and Bro. Chad Doerr officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Pendleton County.
Pallbearers were: Gary Barnard, Roger Anderson, Wendell Miles, Roger Miles, Chris Miles, and Bobby Mains.
Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Hamilton Brooks England, 73, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Trilogy Health Center in Harrison Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Harrison County, May 28, 1931, to the late Omer and Daisy Miller Brooks. She was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kenneth "Beef" England; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sallie Rudd England Lowe and Roy W. Lowe; a sister, Nellie Brooks; four brothers, Everett Brooks, Kenney Brooks, Johnnie Brooks and Oscar Brooks; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law and their son, Jesse , Amo and Stanley England.
Survivors include: her daughter, Beverly Joy England of Cynthiana; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Glenyce England of Cynthiana; two sisters, Zona Brooks Palmer and Barbara Brooks Malone both of Cynthiana; two brothers, James T. Brooks of Cynthiana and Stanley Brooks of LaGrange; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pauline and James Marshall of Lexington and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004 at the Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home by Rev. William G. Brown. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery.

Gregory Clifford McCauley, 31, of Cynthiana, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004.
He was born in Harrison County, Dec. 7, 1972. He was an employee of Liquid Container in Lexington and was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Beatrix Feix.
Survivors include: his wife, Sara Mattox McCauley; two children, Ronan Gabriel and Gema Ashtyn McCauley; his parents, Paul and Evelyn McCauley of Cynthiana, and Donna Feix Bailey of Riverside, Calif.; his grandparents, Leroy E. and Nancy B. McCauley of Harrison County; a half-brother, Sean Bailey of Riverside, Calif.; a stepsister, Diane Glenn of Independence; his mother and father-in-law, Coley and Pat Mattox of Harrison County; two nieces, Megan and Ashley Wolfe; a nephew, Dylan Bailey; a brother-in-law, Kyle Mattox; a sister-in-law, Jennifer Mattox and numerous friends family members.
A memorial service was conducted Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at Ware Funeral Home by Dr. Larry Bishop.
