Charles Desha "Hammer" Wiglesworth, 53
Charles Desha "Hammer" Wiglesworth, 53, of Carlisle, formerly of Harrison County, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at his residence.
He was born in Harrison County on April 8, 1951, to the late Martin and Mary Louise Wiglesworth. He was a farm manager and a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
Survivors include: two sons, Shay A. Wiglesworth and Dean C. Wiglesworth, both of Sadieville; a stepson, Ben Gann of Cynthiana; two brothers, Billy Ray Wiglesworth of Carlisle, and James Garnett Wiglesworth of Cynthiana and a sister, Jean Martin Brown of Cynthiana.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Ware Funeral Home. Burial was in Morgan Cemetery in Pendleton County.
William Rice Whaley, 76
William Rice Whaley, 76, of Cynthiana, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home.
He was born Sept. 27, 1927 in Harrison County to the late R.B. Whaley, Jr. and Gayle Juett Whaley Jennings. He was a former bus driver for the Harrison County Senior Citizens' Center, a member of Cynthiana Presbyterian Church, a former member of Cynthiana Elks' Lodge Number 438, a Kentucky Colonel and a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include: his wife, Annette Smith Whaley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip and Suzanne Whaley of Dayton, Ohio, and Rice and Lexie Whaley of Hermitage, Penn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Terry Stroot of O'Fallon, Mo.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Ware Funeral Home by Rev. Larry Bowald. Burial was in Battle Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Dotson, Wilbur Moore, Kevin Dotson, Randy Aimes, Kit Rhodes and Dwayne Florence.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe B. Hall, John Schreiber, John Feeback and Richard Wilson.

Ruth Scrivner Furnish, 87
Ruth Scrivner Furnish, 87, a resident of Pine Meadows Health Care Center, Lexington, Ky., formerly of Cynthiana, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004 at Hospice Care Center, Lexington.
She was born in Liberty City, Mo. on Aug. 28, 1916, to the late Cecil and Harless Reynolds Scrivner. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, and had been an employee of Ladish Co. and Morris and Ingram.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wilbur Furnish.
Survivors include: three sons, Kay Linden of Ohio, Tom Linden of Georgia, and Shearle Furnish of Texas; two daughters, Ann Green of Colorado, and Kathy Crouch of Lexington; 11 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 7 in Battle Grove Cemetery by the Rev. Carl Wagoner.
Pallbearers were: Charles Cooper, Bill Doan, and Eugena Patrick.
Drake-Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Edna Helen Flora, 80
Edna Helen Flora, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home.
She was born in Floyd County to the late J.S. and Leona Hoover Elliott. She was a member of Myers Christian Church, and a retired employee of Nicholas County Schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W.G. Flora.
Survivors include: four sons, William W. (Carolyn Sue) Flora of Cynthiana, Larry W. (Mary Lynn) Flora, Allen L. (Cheryl) Flora, and Marty L. (Debbie) Flora, all of Carlisle; a daughter, Charmain (Kent) Cable of Salem, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Kash Stone of Carlisle; 12 grandchildren, Bugs, Larry W., David and Jonathan Flora, Stephanie Jo Cole, Christy Fuller, Shauna Flora, Bryan Sapp, Robert Reed, Kinley Bretz, Charlene Whirles, and Michael Cable; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were conducted Wednesday, Aug. 11 at Mathers-Gaunce Funeral Home by the Rev. James Gaunce. Burial was in Carlisle Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Michael Cable, Ricky Cole, Bugs, Larry W., David and Johathan Flora, Drew Fuller, and Bryan Sapp.
Honorary pallbearers were: Stephanie Jo Cole, Christy Fuller, Shauna Flora, Kiley Bretz, and Charlene Whirles.
Albert L. Moore Sr., 72
Albert L. Moore Sr., 72, a resident of Shadynook Road, Cynthiana, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, at his residence.
He was born in Harrison County, Aug. 7, 1932, to the late Russell and Lillian Moore. He was a retired carpenter, a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Georgetown VFW. Moore was a member of Victory Baptist Church of which he served as a deacon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dollie Ritchie Moore, a brother, Bob Moore, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include: three sons, Albert (Kim) Moore Jr. of Cynthiana, Gary W. (Peggy) Moore of Pennington Gap, Va.; and Terrie A. (Ann) Moore of Columbia; two daughters, Sandra L. (Sanford) Kiskaden and Sherrie A. (Harvey T.) Highlander, both of Harrison County; four brothers, C.D. Moore and Johnny Moore, both of Cynthiana, and Billy Moore and Charles Moore, both of Burnside, N.C.; three sisters, Ruth Swinford and Barbara Stroub, both of Cynthiana, and Gladys Mattox of Florida; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and seven step grandchildren.

Bobby Joe Varner, 75
Bobby Joe Varner, 75, a resident of Kissimmee, Fla., formerly of Harrison County, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Scott County, March 13, 1929, to the late D.E. and Lillian Phillips Baldwin. She was a retired federal government employee.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray 'Funny' Varner.
Survivors include: a daughter, Sally (Jeffrey) Lewis of Kissimmee; a brother, Marion (Patsy) Baldwin of Harrison County; and two sisters, Mary Ann (Bill) Kinney and Judy B. (L.C.) Coppage, all of Harrison County.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Aug. 7 at Ware Funeral Home by Bro. Clifford Neat. Burial was in Beaver Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Baptist Church.

Sylvia 'Grabby' Middleton Duckworth, 86, a resident of Glasgow, Ky., died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004 at the Barren County Health Care facility in Glasgow.
She was a native of Carlisle, Ky., daughter of the late Earl and Dorothy Fields Middleton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Duckworth, and a stepdaughter, Rita Valet.
Survivors include: a daughter, Pat Gaunce and husband Wayne of Glasgow; a stepdaughter, Pam Duckworth of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren, Patrick Gaunce and wife Tammye of Glasgow, Kevin Gaunce and wife Jennifer of Paducah, Ky., Paige Benson and husband Mike of Dickson, Tenn.; a step granddaughter, Kathy Potter and husband Scott of Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah, Rebecca, Joshua and Caleb Gaunce, Zachary Benson, and Taylor Gaunce, and step grandchildren, Daniel and Dillon Potter; five sisters, Tressie Ralston, Bea Slade, and Wilma Duckworth, all of Cynthiana, Ky., Odella Sowers of Georgetown, Ky., and Bonnie Eaton of Frankfort, Ky.; a brother, Harold Middleton of Sadieville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, Aug. 9 at A.F. Crow and Son Funeral Home in Glasgow by her grandson, Kevin Gaunce. Burial was in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery.
