Joseph Melvin Mattingly, 87
Joseph Melvin Mattingly, 87, Lydon, died Sept. 24, 2003, at Nazareth Home, Louisville.
Mattingly was a retired truck driver for the old Louisville Seed Company, a native of St. Mary and member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Anna G. Abell Mattingly; and a son, Charles Edward Mattingly Sr.
Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara and Janice Mattingly, both of Louisville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held Sept. 27 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 7813 Shelbyville Road, Louisville, with burial in Highland Memory Gardens, Mt. Washington.

James Howard Maupin, 72
James Howard Maupin, 72, Franklin, died Sept. 22, 2003, at his residence.
A native of Marion County, Maupin was owner and operator of C&M; Metals in Franklin and an Air Force Veteran of Korean War.
Survivors include: his mother, Mary Elizabeth Thompson Maupin Franklin; three daughters, Sharon Land of Seattle, Wash., Janice Gabbard of Woodbury and Julie White of Gallatin, Tenn.; a son, Larry Maupin of Raywick; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral Mass was held Sept. 25 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, Finley, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery. Rev. Jeffery P. Leger officiated.
Pallbearers were Foy C. and Jacob Gabbard, Dustin and Larry Maupin, Donald Lane and J.B. Peterson.

Adam E. Fulkerson, 23
Adam E. Fulkerson, 23, Cox's Creek, died Sept. 24, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Nelson County, Fulkerson was employed at Zappos.com in Shepherdsville and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He was preceded in death by: his maternal grandfather, George Cook; and his paternal grandfather, Wylmer Fulkerson.
Survivors include: his parents, Philip and Shirley Cook Fulkerson of Cox's Creek; three brothers, Jamie, Doug and Andy Fulkerson, all of Bardstown; maternal grandmother, Ernestine Cook of Bradfordsville; and paternal grandmother, Joy Mae Chesser of Cox's Creek.
Funeral services were held Sept. 29 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lebanon. Bro. Dan Kelly officiated.
Pallbearers were Jason and Brandon Crenshaw, Robbie, Andy and Doug Fulkerson and Steve Cook.

Ruth Detherage Downs, 93, 2255 Wimsatt Road, Loretto, died Sept. 28, 2003, at her residence.
Born Feb. 18, 1910, in Barbourville, Downs was a former employee of the old Loretto Distilling Company.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, George Leo "Lee" Downs; father, John Ervin Detherage; mother, Matilda Emaline West Detherage; six brothers, Harve, Jim, Arthur and Omar Detherage and Floyd and Lawrence Shelton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Mattingly of Louisville and Lucy Craig of Lebanon; a step-daughter, Leola Mattingly of Loretto; a son, Doyle Downs of Loretto; two sisters, Mary Morris of Louisville and Nancy Lamkin of LaFayette, Ind.; a brother, John Shelton of Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 36 step-great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and 39 step-great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held Sept. 30 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Raywick, with burial in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery. Rev. Jim Graf officiated and Rev. Joe Dant assisted.
Pallbearers were Jeannie Craig Hayes, Eddie Craig, Rick and Stevie Downs, Susan Mattingly Buckner and Shannon Mattingly Schroeder.

Nannie Mary Brady, 90, Lebanon, died July 25, 2004, at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.
Born May 22, 1914, in Marion County, Brady was a retired employee of Jane and Linda Sportswear and member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas Brady Sr.; parents, Leslie A. and Mattie Alford Young; a daughter, Mattie Fauth; and three sisters, Ivy Wright, Josie Weatherford and Ann Laura Dye.
Survivors include: three sons, Jerry and Thomas Brady Jr., both of Bardstown, and Donnie Brady of Lebanon; two daughters, Elizabeth Green of DeBary, Fla., and Dorothy Wright of Lebanon; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held July 28 at Lebanon Baptist Church with burial in Lebanon's Ryder Cemetery. Rev. Wesley Noss officiated.

Jane Carol Smith, 63, St. Francis, died July 22, 2004, at her residence.
Born Aug. 17, 1940, in St. Francis, Smith worked as a caregiver for family members.
She was preceded in death by: her father, James Bernard Smith; mother, Pauline Elizabeth Robey Smith Hall; stepfather, William S. Hall (died June 11, 2004); and two brothers, Joseph Ernest "Ernie" Smith and James Bernard Smith Jr.
Survivors include: two sisters, Patricia Wheatley of Louisville and Mrs. Tom (Wanda) Portman of Leitchfield; a brother, Freddie Hall of St. Francis; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was held July 24 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Francis with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. R. Joseph Hemmerle officiated.
Pallbearers were Tommy Robey, Larry, Ronnie and Billy Wheatley and Tom and Michael Portman.
