Mary Lorene Thompson, 64
Mary Lorene Thompson, 64, Lebanon, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at her residence.
Born Dec. 20, 1939, in Marion County, Thompson was a retired employee of Jim Beam Distillery and member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, William Clifton "Billy" Thompson; and parents, John Beckham and Mary Willie Lamkin Abell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Marsha Tinnell of Bardstown and Jane Thompson of Lebanon; three sons, Jimmy Thompson of Lebanon and J.B. and Jeff Thompson, both of Louisville; a brother, J.C. Abell of Louisville; and 11 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held June 12 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Lebanon, with burial in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery in Raywick. Rev. Jerry Bell officiated.
Pallbearers were Cory, Caleb and Jessica Thompson, Justin and Lance King and Jordan Greene.

Thomas Harold Riggs Sr., 65
Thomas Harold Riggs Sr., 65, Louisville, died at 9:35 p.m. June 8, 2004, at Caritas Medical Center, Louisville.
Born April 9, 1939, in Nelson County, Riggs was a former painter and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Fairdale.
He was preceded in death by: his father, James Ules Riggs; his mother, Mary Ursula Newton; a sister, Mary Theresa Fox; and two brothers, James Russell and James Walter Riggs.
Survivors include: a daughter, Cammy Sue Gruin of Louisville; a son, Tommy Riggs of Fairdale; five sisters, Grace Flannery of New Albany, Ind., Beulah Burgin of Louisville, Bernadine Smith of Bardstown, Betty Smith of Shepherdsville and Fay Smith of Fayetteville, OH; 2 brothers, Joe Riggs of Lexington and David Riggs of Crestwood; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held June 11 at Mattingly Funeral Home, Loretto, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery in Holy Cross. Rev. Sonny Mull officiated.
Pallbearers were Tony Whelan, Sam Miller, Ricky Newton, Joey Riggs, Jesse Smith and Charles Brown.

Joseph William Browning, 90
Joseph William "Bill" Browning, 90, of Cowherd Lane, Lebanon, died June 8, 2004, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon. He was born on June 29, 1913, on the family farm where he lived and worked his entire life. He was also a retired Marion County Schoolbus driver.
Bill married
his wife, Addie Florence Abell on May 7, 1935, at St. Charles Catholic Church. The couple was married
for 69 years, and had nine children. Bill was also an avid bluegrass music fan. He and his wife attended the annual bluegrass festivals at Renfro Valley each summer. Even at the age of 90, he continued to park his camper at the same camp site for each festival.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Susie Greenwell Browning, two brothers, Joseph Ernest and Joseph Henry Browning, and four sisters, Minnie Fowler, Rose Browning, Roberta Browning and Bessie Browning.
He is survived by: his wife Addie Florence Browning of Lebanon; four sons, Fred, John, Jim and Kenny Browning, all of Lebanon; and five daughters Susan Skees of Melrose, Mass., Carolyn Browning of Louisville, Sr. Frances Browning, FSPA, of LaCrosse, Wis., Barbara Oesterritter of Louisville and Mary Lou Mattingly of Loretto; 22 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
The funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, June 11, 2004, at 11 a.m. with Father John Lesousky officiating, with interment in the St. Charles Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were his 11 grandsons, Wayne, Pat, Todd, Tony, Matthew, Nick and Jamie Browning, Joe Skees, Paul Oesterritter, Brian and Jason Mattingly.

Charles William Brown, 88
Charles William Brown, 88, Lebanon, died June 8, 2004, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
Born April 21, 2004, in Nelson County, Brown was a retired farmer.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Marie Mattingly Brown; parents, George and Fannie Smith Brown; two sisters, Patty Boone and Sister Antonella Brown; and two brothers, Neil and George Smith Brown.
Survivors include: five daughters, Rose Mary Dawson of Louisville, Linda Smith and Betty Lou Mudd, both of Springfield, Benita Hamilton of Louisville and Lucy Ballard of Loretto; three sons, Billy Brown of Lebanon, Joey Brown of St. Louis, Mo., and John Brown of Bardstown; three sisters, Antonella Ray and Theresa Marks, both of Lebanon, and Susan Badgett of Columbus, Ohio.; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held June 11 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Lebanon, with burial in St. Charles Church Cemetery in St. Mary. Rev. Chuck Thompson officiated.

William Sidney Hall, 89
William Sidney "Bill" Hall, 89, St. Francis, died at 5:56 a.m. June 11, 2004, at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon.
Born Aug. 8, 1914, in Sulphur Lick, Hall was a former construction worker and member of the Loretto Sportsman's Club.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Pauline Elizabeth Robey Hall; father, George Washington Hall; mother, Mary Elizabeth Lamkin Hall; three brothers, Felix, Mike and George Hall; three sisters, Catherine Morris, Magdeline Whitfield and Amanda Bridget Miles; and a stepson, Joseph Ernest "Ernie" Smith.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Wanda) Portman of Leitchfield; a son, Freddie Hall of St. Francis; three grandchildren, Emily Pirtle of Stephensburg, Michael Portman of Bowling Green and Carla Portman of Clarkson; two stepdaughters, Pat Wheatley of Louisville and Jane Smith of St. Francis; nine step-grandchildren, Larry, Jerry, Billy, Ricky, Ronnie, Tommy, Jeff and Caroline Wheatley and Judy Scholl.
A funeral Mass was held June 14 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in St. Francis with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. James W. Graf and Rev. Joseph R. Dant officiated.
Pallbearers were Larry, Jerry, Ronnie and Tommy Wheatley, Michael Portman and David Miles.

Jack B. Helm, 83
Jack B. Helm, 83, Louisville, died June 5, 2004, at Mt. Holly Nursing Center, Louisville.
Born Feb. 20, 1921, Helm was a United States Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a decorated combat veteran and commanded a battery in the 213th Field Artillery. After the war, he founded Building Services Inc., a janitorial company. He was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Jane Elizabeth Schulten Helm; two daughters, Jane Helm Gilbert of Columbus, Ohio, and Lucy Lee Helm of Seattle, Wash.; four sons, John B., J. Douglas and Ted R. Helm, all of Nashville, Tenn., and David Vance Helm of Portland, Org.; a brother, Richard M. Helm; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was held June 9 at Crescent Hill Baptist Church, Louisville, with burial in St. Louis Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John Center for the Homeless.
