Bertha Mae Jewell
Bertha Mae Jewell, 86, Anthoston, died at 5:52 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident on U.S. 41-Alternate south of Poole.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Halbert Jewell, who died April 14, 1985; and two sons, Edward Leroy "Ozzie" Jewell, who died Jan. 9, 2000, and Elliott Jewell, who died Feb. 17, 2001, in the same accident as Mrs. Jewell.
Survivors include one son, Clayton Jewell of Anthoston; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Beech Grove, Ky.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
George C. "Pete" Conway
STURGIS -- George C. "Pete" Conway, Sturgis, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
He owned and operated the Sturgis Milling Co. before retiring in 1978. Prior to that he was a teacher and principal at Sturgis Elementary School. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Sturgis.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Ruth Mitchell Conway of Sturgis; two daughters, Leslie Carpenter of Owensboro, and Ellen Conway of Henderson; one son, Dr. Peter Conway of Louisville; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. The Rev. Ken Berggren will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Methodist Hospital, Union County Foundation.
Elizabeth Horne
Elizabeth Horne, 80, Morganfield, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg, Ill.
She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Horne Sr., who died in 1972.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmie Horne of Morganfield, and John H. Horne Jr. of Henderson; one brother, Ray McKinley of Evansville; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. Don Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Pride-Bordley Cemetery in Pride, Ky.
Friends may call until service time today at the funeral home.
Melvin "Junior" Melton
DIAMOND, Ky. -- Melvin "Junior" Melton, 68, Diamond, died at 11:58 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at University of Louisville Medical Center.
He was a member of Diamond Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge No. 148, VFW No. 5484, and the American Legion in Clay. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheree Clark and Kristie Dunbar, both of Diamond; two sons, Troy Melton of Madisonville, and Slade Melton of Diamond; his mother, Vernon Melton of Diamond; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Melton Funeral Home in Providence. The Revs. Pete Hedgepath and Tim Rigdon will officiate. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Clay.

Elliott "Eddie" Lee Jewell
Elliott "Eddie" Lee Jewell, 70, Evansville, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in an automobile accident with his wife, Marilyn Jewell, and his mother, Bertha Mae Jewell.
He was self-employed. He also worked part time for Nass Concrete. He attended Bethany Baptist Church in Evansville and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include one daughter, Lee Ann Jewell-Brown of Evansville; one son, Steven Jewell of Evansville; one brother, Clayton Jewell of Anthoston; four grandchildren; and nephews.
Double services for him and his wife, Marilyn Jewell, will be at 11 a.m. today at Browning Funeral Home in Evansville. The Rev. Terry Flowers will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Retired Veterans Memorial Club.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Bethany Baptist Church or the Disabled American Veterans.
Jewel Edna Vailes
KUTTAWA -- Jewel Edna Vailes, 96, Kuttawa, formerly of Providence, died at 3:53 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Rivers Bend Retirement Home here.
She was a housewife and a member of First Baptist Church in Clay.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Vailes; one infant daughter; and one son, Oscar Vailes Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Jewel Dean Hall of Grand Rivers, Ky., and Fannie Edwards of Clay; one sister, Lelia Buie of Madisonville; one brother, S.D. Boster of Hartselle, Ala.; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence. The Rev. Tim Franklin will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence.

Lillie Coffman
EARLINGTON -- Lillie Coffman, 81, Earlington, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Ridgewood Terrace in Madisonville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edney Owen "Buster" Coffman, who died in 2000.
Survivors include three sons, Darrell Coffman and Ronnie Coffman, both of Earlington, and Jerry Coffman of Henderson; one sister, Katherine Cowan of Crofton, Ky.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Reid-Walters Funeral Home in Earlington. The Rev. Steve DeArmond will officiate. Burial will be in Suthards Cemetery in Suthards, Ky.

Mable Howell
CALHOUN, Ky. -- Mable Howell, 96, Calhoun, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health Systems.
She was a homemaker and a member of Beulah General Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and caring for her flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Howell, who died Dec. 9, 1979; and two infants who died at birth.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Howell of Evansville, and Shirley Howell of Henderson; three daughters, Augusta Howell of Memphis, Tenn., Pat Moseley of Florissant, Colo., and Darlene Powers of Evansville; one sister, Martha Love of Calhoun; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. The Rev. Robert Nall will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in McLean County.
