Carl E. Hass, 64, Henderson, died as a result of heart disease Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home here.
He was of the Catholic faith. He was a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kavanaugh Haas; two sons, Carl Haas Jr. and Mark Haas, both of Pennsylvania; one stepdaughter, Angela Chapman of Newburgh, Ind.; one stepson, Charles Chapman; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Corydon Cemetery.

Lau Trieve Holt
STURGIS -- Lau Trieve Holt, 87, Sturgis, died at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Morganfield Nursing & Rehibilitation Center.
She was the proprietor of the Ready To Wear Store in Sturgis. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lawrence Holt, who died in 1989.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Rich of Sturgis; two sons, Larry Holt of Sturgis, and Dr. Tim Holt of Henderson; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Jeff Bullock will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today or until service time Friday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis.
Mary A. Ashby
OWENSBORO -- Mary A. Ashby, 94, formerly of Henderson, died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home here.
She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. She was also an avid quilter.
Survivors include one daughter, Martha Duncan of Poole; four sons, John Ashby of Mesa, Ariz., Bernard Ashby of Henderson, Phillip Ashby of Geneva, and Robert Ashby of Owensboro; 34 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending at Tapp Funeral Home.
Adrienne Courtney Dantin
PROSPECT, Ky. -- Adrienne Courtney Dantin, 21, Prospect, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
She was a student at Transylvania University in Lexington. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority-Tau Omega Chapter, Beargrass Christian Church, and Disciples on Campus at Transylvania. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include her parents, Jim and Terri Dantin, both of Prospect; her grandmother, Marja Dantin of River Ridge, La.; and one brother, Alex Dantin of Indianapolis.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Beargrass Christian Church in Louisville.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Adrienne Dantin Memorial Fund or the Leukemia and Lymphona Society.
Betty Lou Smith Shockey
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. -- Betty Lou Smith Shockey, 61, Morgantown, died at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at the Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown.
She was employed by Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, from 1967 to 1983 when the company moved to Henderson. She retired in 1995 as customer service manager from Accuride. She was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Lee Shockey of Belington, W. Va.; two sisters, Joy Stemple of Philippi, W. Va., and Carolyn Stuart of Morgantown; one granddaughter; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wright Funeral Home in Philippi. The Rev. M. Steven Meadows will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Thelma P. Hawes
Thelma P. Hawes, 69, Henderson, died of cancer at 5:23 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.
She was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson where she served as president of the Mother's Board and was a member of the Senior Choir and Senior Missionary Society. She was employed at Bear Brand Hosiery for more than 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Hawes Sr., who died in 1994; and a son, Thomas E. Powell, who died in 1977.
Survivors include three daughters, Theda J. Owens, Elaine Hawes, and Bertha Hairlson, all of Henderson; one son, Eugene T. Hawes Jr. of Henderson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the church, where wake services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Levin H. Brank
Levin H. Brank, 58, Henderson, died of heart failure at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.
He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson where he was a past member of the Usher Board. He was also an avid reader and fisherman. He was retired as a drywall finisher from Brank Construction.
Survivors include his mother, Anna Brank of Henderson; three daughters, Susan Powell of Jacksonville, Fla., Georgannie Scott of Cheney, Wash., and Stephanie Norman of Evansville; two sons, Levin Brank Jr. and John Elton, both of Seattle; one sister, Anna Cole of Henderson; two brothers, Hence Brank Jr. and Henry Louis Brank, both of Henderson; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Esters will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church, where wake services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ruth D. VanMeter
Ruth D. VanMeter, 81, Henderson, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.
She was a 50-year member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and a Kentucky Colonel. She was also past grand matron of Kentucky Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include three daughters, Virginia Greenwell of Henderson, Gwenda Chesser of San Antonio, Texas, and Olivia Kay Landrum of Williamstown, N.C.; two sons, Stephen VanMeter of Greenville, Ky., and Allan VanMeter of Henderson; one sister, Maudie Griffin of Amelia, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
