Nancy Lou Alves
Nancy Lou Alves, 84, Henderson, formerly of Harrodsburg, Ky., died at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a longtime member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Richard Alves; one brother, Lee James Coleman Jr. of Lexington; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Rev. Gordon Morrison will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Darrel Hout, Frank "Nib" King, Bill Polk Jr., Dr. John W. McClellan, Ray Shoemaker, and Bill Sullivan.
Mary Nelson
Mary Nelson, 70, Henderson, formerly of Carmi, Ill., died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.
She was an LPN and had worked at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center, White County Hospital and the White County Hospital/Skilled Care Unit. She was a member of Airline Baptist Church in Henderson and the Carmi Lions Club.
Survivors include her companion and caregiver of 35 years, Woody Dagley of Henderson; two daughters, Cathy Boyd and Connie Higginson, both of Henderson; two sisters, Betty Keen of Selman City, Texas, and Beverly Wilson of Roseville, Minn.; four brothers, Charles Rankin of Carmi, James Rankin of Enfield, Ill., Bill Rankin of McLeansboro, Ill., and Merle Rankin of Carbondale, Ill.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi. The Rev. Jerry Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in Big Prairie Cemetery in Carmi.

William S. Jones
William S. Jones, 88, Henderson, died at 3:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Methodist Hospital.
He was a retired Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation worker. He was a member of Hanover Presbyterian Church in Hanover, Ind. He was also a member of Madison Moose Lodge No. 765. He was a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Buchanan Jones, who died in 1987.
Survivors include one son, William W. Jones of Henderson; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel in Madison, Ind. The Rev. William Huber will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Madison.

John "Tunney" Clark
WHEATCROFT -- John "Tunney" Clark, 74, Wheatcroft, died of black lung disease at 5:10 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
He was a retired miner, a member of the United Mine Workers of America worker, and a former mayor of Wheatcroft. He was a member of Wheatcroft F&AM Lodge No. 881 and a 32nd-degree mason. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters. He was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of Kentuckians for the Commonwealth and the Wheatcroft Cumberland Presbyterian Church,m where he served as an elder for 52 years. He was also the proprieter of the Wheatcroft Museum.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Cowan Clark, who died in 1976.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Clark; two sons, Johnathon Clark of Winchester, Tenn., and Jerry Clark of Clay; one sister, Hilda Beckner of Wheatcroft; four brothers, Charlie Clark Jr. and Wendell Clark, both of Wheatcroft, Walty Clark of Clay, and Freddy Clark of Dixon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Wheatcroft. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay, with military rites.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. today Vanover Funeral Home in Clay, where masonic services will be held at 6 p.m. today, or after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mary Elizabeth Kiscaden
MADISONVILLE -- Mary Elizabeth Kiscaden, 76, Madisonville, died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Regional Medical Center here.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of both American Legion Post No. 6 and VFW Post No. 5480.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, William H. Barnett, who died in 1951, and John Kiscaden, who died in 1999.
Survivors include three daughters, Faye Barnett Franklin and Yvonne Kiscaden Polley, both of Madisonville, and Elaine Kiscaden Perry of Buna, Texas; three sons, Ray Barnett of Sidney, N.Y., Bill Barnett of Henderson, and James Earl Kiscaden of Earlington, Ky.; one brother, Bob Stone of Greenville, Ky.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville. Brother Terry Chaney will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.

John Charles Benefiel Sr.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- John Charles Benefiel Sr., 45, Birmingham, formerly of Henderson, died at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Baptist Montclair Hospital here.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elk's Lodge in Birmingham, and he was a Navy and Army veteran of the Vietnam era. He was a former police chief in Clay, a former deputy sheriff in Henderson, aformer police officer in Morganfield, a former assistant chief of police in Ashville, Ala., and a former deputy sheriff in St. Clair County, Ala.
Survivors include his caregiver, Pam Benefiel of Trussville, Ala.; one daughter, Kimberly Ann Benefiel of Henderson; one son, John C. Benefiel Jr. of Oneonta, Ala.; his father, William Benefiel of Evansville; three sisters, Yvonne Poole and Yvette Poole, both of Henderson, and Patricia Woodard of Evansville; one brother, Bobby "BJ" Benefiel of Henderson; nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are pending at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
Edmund "Ed" Berry
WESTMONT, Ill. -- Edmund "Ed" Berry, 77, formerly of Henderson and Crittenden County, died Jan. 17, 2001, at his home here.
A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he was a bus driver. He was also a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westmont, Pace's Million Miler Club and Avengers of Bataan in World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Berry; two daughters, Joan Kostal of Westmont and Patricia Berry of Waukegan, Ill.; two sons, John Berry of Chicago and Kevin Berry of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Christine Hammonds of Naperville, Ill., Jean Gurkowski of Lyons, Ill.; one brother, Bill Berry of Franklin Park, Ill.; eleven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Jan. 19, 2001, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Westmont. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.
Toon Funeral Home in Westmont was in charge of arrangments.
