Abraham Houle, 95, Henderson, died at 11:15 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, at Redbanks nursing home.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Loretta Goldsberry of Reed; nine step grandchildren, one of whom, Cindy Koonce of Henderson, was a caregiver; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at End of Time Pentecostal Church in Henderson. The Rev. Dale Chaney will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at Zachary Taylor Memorial Cemetery in Louisville.
There will be no visitation.

Eugene Cates
PRIDE, Ky. -- Eugene Cates, 83, Pride, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Redbanks nursing home in Henderson.
He was a World War II veteran and retired from Earle C. Clements Job Corp Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Cowan of Morganfield and Mona Nalley of Evansville; one son, Rickey Dale Cates of Henderson; one brother, Raymond Cates of Clay; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. The Rev. D.T. Fulkerson Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Boxville Cemetery in Union County.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Walter E. "Slim" Lewis
SLAUGHTERS -- Walter E. "Slim" Lewis, 85, Slaughters, died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Versnick Healthcare Center in Madisonville.
He was a 35-year employee of Texas Gas, working in the Slaughters and Madisonville offices. He was a member of the Slaughters Masonic Lodge and Slaughters Missionary Baptist Church. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Marksberry Lewis; one daughter, Elaine Price of Dixon; one son, Larry Lewis of Hanson, Ky.; one sister, Laureen McFadden of Utica, Ky.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tompkins Funeral Home Slaughters-Hanson Chapel. The Rev. Brad Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Slaughters Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Juanita Kessinger
MORGANFIELD -- Juanita Kessinger, 76, Morganfield, died at 4:41 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Morganfield.
She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Kessinger, who died in 1987.
Survivors include two sons, William Kessinger of Morganfield and John Rebo of Jasper, Ga.; one sister, Elizabeth Cline of Morganfield; one brother, Joe Alvey of Owensboro; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield. The Rev. Bob Willett will officiate. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, where a rosary will be said at 5:30 p.m. today.

Carson Gibson Jenkins Sr.
LOUISVILLE -- Carson Gibson Jenkins Sr., 71, Louisville, formerly of Morganfield, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at Parkway Medical Center here.
He retired from General Electric Appliance Park and was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Gilland Jenkins; one daughter, Linda DeFew of Louisville; three sons, Carson Jenkins Jr., Wayne Jenkins and Steven Jenkins, all of Louisville; five brothers, Thomas Jenkins of Louisville, Pete Jenkins of Henderson, Bill Jenkins of Morganfield, Jack Jenkins of Lawrenceburg, Ky., and James Jenkins of Indianapolis; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Brother Danny Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Boxville Cemetery in Union County.
Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mark T. Greenwell
WAVERLY -- Mark T. Greenwell, 90, Waverly, died at 7:40 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Henderson.
A member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He at one time had owned a grocery store and a jeep dealership in Waverly. An active farmer, he was one of the first farmers in Union County to use hybrid seed corn and owned an interest in a seed corn facility in Henderson. In 1946, he was Kentucky's top corn producer with 144 bushels per acre. He also experimented with potatoes, watermelons, strawberries and popcorn.
His first popcorn crop was planted in the 1930s on his father's farm near Waverly. In 1980, the popcorn brand "Uncle Mark's" originated in his honor. In 1994, he was awarded the Pioneer Farmer Award by the Union County Conservation District.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Anna Mildred Martin Greenwell; one daughter, Anna Marie Greenwell of Waverly; four sons, Paul Thomas Greenwell of Morganfield, and James Martin Greenwell, Gerald Joseph Greenwell and Donald Wayne Greenwell, all of Waverly; one brother, Jim Ed Greenwell of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waverly. The Rev. Bob Willett will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield, where a rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday.

Charles Allen Mitchell
SEBREE -- Charles Allen Mitchell, 67, Sebree, died at 3:35 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
A retired prominent Sebree businessman, he was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, a former teacher at the old Sebree High School and a design engineer for General Electric. He opened the Western Auto Store in Sebree in 1971 and retired as its owner in 1998. He was also a design engineer for the U.S. Army, assisting in the design of its tanks. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Kentucky Colonel.
A member of First Baptist Church in Sebree, he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and church leader.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Ann Dodson Veasey Mitchell; two daughters, Laura Knight of Slaughters and Sarah Cobb of Somerset, Ky.; his mother, Amigene Winstead Mitchell; two sisters, Anita Emerson of Henderson and Kittye Roland of Eustis, Fla.; two brothers, Donald Mitchell of Rancho Mirage, Calif., and Darrell Mitchell of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Sebree. The Rev. Bob Hardison will officiate. Burial will be in Springdale Cemetery near Sebree.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Tompkins Funeral Home's Sebree-Poole Chapel and after 11:30 a.m. at the church.
