Courtney Charles Quirey Sr.
STURGIS -- Courtney Charles Quirey Sr., 95, died at 10:25 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at his home here.
He was an elder at First Christian Church in Sturgis. He was a retired mine manager from DeKoven and Poplar Ridge Mines. He was the retired owner of the Sturgis Specialty Shop and Ben Franklin store.
Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Sprague of Henderson; two sons, Courtney Charles Quirey Jr. and Otho Calvin Quirey, both of Sturgis; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Jeff Bullock will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
Friends may call from 2 to 7 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis.

Milton Dean
STURGIS -- Milton Dean, 75, died at 11:20 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at his home here.
He was a retired coal miner with 36 years in the mines. He was a member of UMWA and VFW and was also a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Clara Imogene Dean; four daughters, Mildred Brack and Frances Berry, both of Henderson, and Bonnie Garcia and Connie Mackey, both of Sturgis; three sons, Donnie Dean of St. Ann, Ill., Cary Dean of Uniontown and Gary Dean of Sturgis; one stepson, John Dailey of Mississippi; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis. Brother Don Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Maggie Russelburg
UNIONTOWN -- Maggie Russelburg, 85, Uniontown, died at 6:35 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at Methodist Hospital in Union County.
She was an avid quilter and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Fabian Russelburg, who died Dec. 12, 1996.
Survivors include four daughters, Lawanda Smith of Flat Rock, Miss., Zelda Alvey and Lorraine Donaldson, both of Henderson, and Debbie Graham of Morganfield; four sons, Kenneth Russelburg, Meredith Russelburg, Terry Russelburg and Tommy Russelburg, all of Union County; one sister, Mae Oma Hust of Henderson; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 36 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Brother Roger Conrad will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in Uniontown.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Thomas Gene Vaughn
UNIONTOWN -- Thomas Gene Vaughn, 65, died of cancer at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2001, at his home here.
He was a member of Uniontown Baptist Church and Uniontown Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Clevidence Vaughn; two daughters, Tonya Wells of Morganfield and Vicky Gillespie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one son, Rodney Vaughn of Morganfield; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield.
Dorothy "Dottie" Mills
Dorothy "Dottie" Mills, 70, Henderson, formerly of Morganfield, died of cancer at 1:05 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at her home.
She was preceded in death by one son, Terry Mills, who died in 1982.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Mills; two sons, Robby Mills of Henderson and Bruce Mills of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Myra Graves and Madelyn Jones, both of Morganfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Brother Ray Werline will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield.

MORGANFIELD -- Jacob Alan Grant, 20, died at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, at his home here.
He was a 1999 graduate of Union County High School and was employed at Wal-Mart in Morganfield.
Survivors include his parents, Alan and Pam Grant of Morganfield; his grandparents, Pete and Betty Grant of Eddyville, and Arnold and Marion Sunday of Winnebago, Ill.; and one brother Justin Gregory Grant of Morganfield.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Uniontown Methodist Church. The Rev. Don House will officiate. Burial will be in City Cemetery in Uniontown.

Nellie Gabriel Vaughn
CLAY -- Nellie Gabriel Vaughn, 89, Clay, died at 11:05 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, at her granddaughter's home here.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clay for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Vaughn, who died in 1991; and one daughter, Carolyn Swaney, who died in 2000.
Survivors include two sisters, Marion Metz of Clay and Lottie Townsend of Dixon; two granddaughters, five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Brother Jeff McMain will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Clay.

WAVERLY, Tenn. -- Charlotte Louise Markham Strouse, 81, Waverly, formerly of Morganfield, died at 8:53 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob Strouse Jr.
Survivors include one son, William T. Strouse of Las Cruces, N.M.; and five grandchildren.
