Marion 'Pappy' Cress, 83, Benham, died Jan. 19, 2006, at Life Care Center of Gray, Tenn., following a long illness.
A native of Big Laurel, Cress was a retired coal miner and a World War II veteran. He believed in the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Couch Cress; four brothers: Earl Cress, Floyd Cress, Marsh Cress and Urchel Cress; and two sisters: Mary Hendrix and Delphia Day.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Stidham Cress, Benham; two children: Nora Elizabeth Cress, Benham; and David Bruce Cress, Mountain City, Tenn.; two grandchildren: Lara Denise Cress, Lynch; and Ashley Danielle Cress, California; and one brother, Alex Cress, Delphia.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Monday at Tri-City Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. with Bob Yaden and the Rev. Larry Board officiating.
Burial will follow at Scott Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by VFW Post 5171.

George William Dean, 65, LaGrange, formerly of Evarts, died Jan. 23, 2006, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.
He was a retired after 30 years of working for General Electric. Dean was also a member of LaGrange Heights Baptist Church and a brother of Mason Lodge 266.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Dean; a brother, Franklin Dean; and a sister, Ludie Crider.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Mary Ruth Hamblin Dean, LaGrange; his mother, Eliza Blevins Dean Napier, Pekin, Ind.; two sons: Michael Dean and wife, Jamie, Crestwood; and Jeffrey Dean and wife, Karen, Shepherdsville; a sister, Barbara Starrett and her husband, Elmer, Pekin, Ind.; five brothers: Orlee Napier and wife, Rita, Evarts; David Napier and wife, Mary, Evarts; Lawrence 'Skip Jr.' Napier and wife, Marcey, Lexington; Hubbard Dean and wife, Bonnie, Ages; and Walter Dean and wife, Helen, Detroit; and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Stoess Funeral Home in Crestwood.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Young officiating.
Burial will follow in Louisville Memorial Gardens East.

Ethel Eldridge Gilbert, 86, Dione, died Jan. 19, 2006, at Britthaven of the Tri-Cities following a long illness.
A native of Letcher County and had lived in Harlan County for 64 years. Gilbert was homemaker and member of Trinity Tabernacle Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Eliza Williams Eldridge; one son, Terry Gilbert; three brothers: Gordon Eldridge, Leroy Eldridge and Hargus Eldridge; and two sisters: Heddie Eldridge and Bertha Caudill.
Survivors include her husband, John Gilbert, Dione; five children: Margie Scott and husband, Homer, Lynch; Eulene Davis and husband, Ronald, Marion, Ind.; Ken Gilbert, Kouts, Ind.; James Willie Gilbert and wife, Dianne, Marion, Ind.; and Donnie Gilbert and wife, Susan, Dione; one sister: Pearlie Cornett, Gordon; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Tri-City Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Garland Sergent and the Rev. Keith Creech officiating.

Mellie Williams Green, 87, Harlan, died Jan. 22, 2006, at Harlan ARH Hospital.
A native of Leslie County, Green was a homemaker and a active member of the Harlan County Senior Citizens Center. She believed in the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ance and Nancy Day Williams; a husband, Arthur Green; and one brother, Ance Williams Jr.
Survivors include one sister-in-law, Alice Williams, Roark; four nieces and nephews: Patsy Mosley, Roark; and Alonzo Williams, Larry Williams and Barbara Helton, all of London; a special cousin, Susan Turner, Tampa, Fla.; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be held today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John Ditty officiating.
Burial will follow in Philips Fork Cemetery.

Donald Henry, 68, Cumberland, died Jan. 22, 2006, at his residence.
A native of Cumberland, Henry had lived here all of his life. He was a retired federal mine inspector and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. and Martha Hall Henry; and a daughter, Susan Henry Beckett.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Jackson Henry, Cumberland; two daughters: Donna Gayle Hatfield and husband, William, Cumberland; and Paula Lynn Hosea and husband, Rob, Louisville; five brothers: Cecil Henry and wife, Mildred, Mississippi; J.B. Henry and wife, Phyllis, Louisville; Drexwell Henry, Rutledge, Tenn.; Lyndon Henry and wife, Barbara, Lafayette, Ind.; and David Henry and wife, Judy, Lynch; one sister, Eula Mae Shepherd and husband, Wallace, Cumberland; two grandchildren: Will Hatfield and wife, Angie, London; and Brandon Hatfield, Cumberland; and two great-grandchildren: Tyler Jason Hatfield and Conner Joseph Hatfield.

Hattie P. Jackson, 103, Springboro, Ohio, died Jan. 28, 2006, at her residence.
Formerly of Harlan County, she was born Dec. 1, 1902, in Bell County to the late Barlow and Elizabeth Arnett Pursiful.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Asbury Jackson, and five brothers and sisters: Verda Durham, Arnett Pursiful, Bea Caton, Margaret Morgan and Dover Pursiful.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Nicholson, Springboro, Ohio; a sister, Mable White, London; three grandchildren: Mike Nicholson and wife, Lisa; Michelle Gay and husband, Doug; and Gary Nicholson and wife, Cris; seven great-grandchildren: Noel Meyer and wife, Penny; A.J. Meyer and wife, Brittany; Shannon Shelton and husband, Mike; Autumn Nicholson; Bryan Nicholson; Andrea Nicholson; and Matura Tofutti; five great-great-grandchildren: Kyle Meyer, Natalie Meyer, Zachary Meyer, Tanner Shelton and Brooke Shelton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Franklin, Ohio.
Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Cornelius Hancock officiating.

A native of Harlan, she was a homemaker and believed in the Pentecostal faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Mary Hoskins Napier; and one son, Bobby Joe Anglian.
Survivors include two children: James Anglian and wife, Tammy, Wallins; and Mary Jane Ward and husband, Scotty, Kildav; four grandchildren: Nicholas Ward, Charles Conley, Chelsea Conley and Jerry Conley; adopted daughter, Teresa Worthington, Harlan; special friends: Sarah Roberts, Martha Couch, Mary Farley, Judy Middleton, Judy Lynn Middleton, Crettie Daniels, Alta Lowe, Ashley Roper, Samantha Scott and Raymond Jackson; and several other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday after 1 p.m. at the Light House Pentecostal Church.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Wade Smith officiating.
Burial followed in the Harvey Lewis Cemetery.
