Jack Donald Samuels, 74, Monroe, Mich., formerly of Harlan County, died March 15, 2005, at Mercy Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born March 3, 1931, in Harlan. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean war.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy Samuels and Rita Middleton Samuels; three brothers: Verl Samuels, Guy Samuels and Bruce Samuels; four sisters: Edith Owens, Gladys Gaw, Geneva Crowe and Mary Jewell Howard.
Survivors include four children: the Rev. Michael Samuels and wife, Cindy, Weedowe, Ala.; Jeffrey Samuels, Monroe, Mich.; Sandra Reno and husband, Mark, Temperance, Mich.; and Jack Samuels Jr., Weedowe, Ala.; one brother, the Rev. Frank Samuels and wife, Frances, Godson, Ala.; one sister, Bonnie Rudd and husband, James, Middleton, ohio; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 2 to 9 p.m. at Michael Pawlak Funeral Home in Temperance, Mich.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Donald Brown officiating.
Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.

Catherine J. Sears, 86, Corbin, died March 20, 2005.
She was the widow of the Rev. Graden Sears.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Joe W. and Martha Angeline Sasser Jones; three brothers: Floyd, Abe and Chester Jones; and two sisters: Lucy Hackworth and Nell Lenihan.
Survivors include her children and their spouses: Harold Dean and wife, Wenomi Sears, Indiana; Martha Roberts and husband, Bob, Mount Sterling; and Perry Graden Sears Jr. and wife, Judy, Corbin; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Madden, Ohio; several nieces, nephews and other family members; and numerous friends and acquaintances.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home in Corbin. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Nasby Mills and Rev. Eugene Hamilton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Graden Sears Endowment Scholarship of the Clear Creek Baptist College, 300 Clear Creek RD., Pineville, KY 40977-9980.

Alfonzo Simms Jr., 77, Lynch, died March 11, 2005.
A native of Hopkins County, he was a federal mine inspector for 25 years.
He was a member of the Zodak Lodge 30, the United Mine Workers of America and Macedonia Baptist Church in Cumberland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfonzo Sr. and Virginia Sanders Simms.
Survivors include four children: Alonzo Simms, East Chicago, Ind.; Mona Simms, Providence; Randell Simms and Valerie Haley, both of Lexington; and a stepfather, Edmond Sanders, Earlington.
Visitation is Tuesday at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Lynch after 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at noon at the church with the Rev. Robert Henry and the Rev. Ronnie Hampton officiating.
Burial will follow in in Oakwood Cemetery in Earlington.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Wilma C. Suits, 81, Hamilton, Ohio, died March 25, 2005, at Fort Hamilton Hospital.
A native of Morgan County, Tenn., she was the daughter of A.H. and Martha Nelson Adkins.
She was a member of Fairfield Church of Christ and Fort Hamilton Chapter No. 568 Order of Eastern Star. She helped develop the 'Keystones' at her church, taught Sunday school at Lindenwald Christian Church, enjoyed quilting, traveling and reading her Bible. She also volunteered her time at retirement homes and with the Salvation Army.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary Martha; her parents; and nine brothers and sisters: Theodore, Jack, John, Gerald, Frank, Wilbur Adkins, Madge VanMeter, Jean Calloway and Sue Hart.
Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, James W. Suits; two adoring children: J. Bruce Suits and wife, Pamela, Cincinnati; and Connie Proctor and husband, Larry, Hamilton; grandchildren: Kristy Gantz and husband, Kyle, Bellefontaine, Ohio; Adam Proctor, Hamilton; and her brother, Thomas J. Adkins and wife, Blanche, LaFollette, Tenn.
Visitation is Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 7 p.m.at the funeral home with David Hargrave officiating.
Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Resthaven Cemetery.

Fannie Johnson
Fannie Ruth Johnson, 83, Cumberland, died March 22, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A native of Marion, Alab., she moved to Cumberland as a child and attended the public schools for 12 years.
She relocated to Cleveland, Ohio, in the early 1940s where she worked as a waitress for the Standard Drug Company, retiring after 18 years of service. Upon retirement, she returned home to Cumberland in 1981 to care for her mother, who died in 1983. She attended the Cumberland Church of The Nazarene, and enjoyed an active retirement until her declining health brought her to Britthaven Nursing and Rehabilitation in Cumberland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Perry Wyatt and Mary C. Lacey, Marion, Ala.; and her brother, Clarence Wyatt.
Survivors include her niece, Charlotte O. Lewis and husband, Reginald, Washington, D.C.; two great nephews: Clarence J. Wyatt and Quintavious D. Wyatt, both of Atlanta; and sons of her late nephew: Clarence J. Wyatt; and a host of cousins, including Julia M. Lee, Cumberland, and other relatives and friends.
Visitation is Monday at 11 a.m. at Day & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Ronnie Hampton officiating.
Burial will follow at Peaceful Acres Cemetery.

Joner Tackett, 89, Altoona, Ala., died March 19, 2005.
He was a former chief of police at Evarts and was a coal miner at Yocum Creek Coal Company for many years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Tackett; and three daughters: Wilma Hayes, Joyce Steines and Alene Roberts.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Tackett, Altoona, Ala.; four sons: Millard Ray Tackett, Charles Tackett and Joner Tackett Jr., all of Kentucky; and Bill Tackett, Wisconsin; three daughters: Linda Wynn, Mary Phillips, and Judy Blevins, all of Kentucky; three stepsons: Jerry Barnes, Grant, Ala.; Kenneth Barnes, Altoona, Ala.; and Randy Barnes, Altoona, Ala.; two stepdaughters: Dianne Barnes, Illinois; and Kathy Green, Fort Payne, Ala.; a brother: Charlie Tackett, Michigan; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Sunday at Village Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Ray Ford and Fred Hampton officiating.
Burial followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Thelma Howard Taylor, 77, Baxter, died March 24, 2005, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 22, 1927, in Harlan County. She was a homemaker and a mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Zola Howard; three brothers: Eugene Howard, Morris Howard and Eligah Howard; and two sisters, Lena Mae Brock and Dora Brock.
Survivors include her husband, Orel Taylor, Baxter; two sons: Bobby Taylor and wife Annette, Jacksboro, Tenn.; and Russell Taylor and wife, Joy, Harlan; five grandchildren: Jody Taylor and Kelli Taylor, both of Harlan; Amanda Dabney and husband, Travis, Jacksboro, Tenn.; and Ryan Taylor and Jeremy Taylor, both of Jacksboro, Tenn.; one great-grandchild, Taylor Breanne Dabney; three brothers: Stanley Howard, London; Owen Howard Jr., Helton; and Donald Ray Howard, Helton; one sister, Helen Harris, Big Laurel; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation is today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted today at 7 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Gene Harris officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Sergent Cemetery in Baxter.
