Arlene Miniard, 64, Big Laurel, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005, at Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill Turner and Leona Harris Turner; and husband, William Miniard.
Survivors include a brother, Ivory Turner, Cutshin; a sister, Clara Fugate, Hazard; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Cedar Chapel at Big Laurel.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the at Cedar Chapel with the Rev. Ken Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at the Miniard Family Cemetery at Big Laurel.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Grant 'Bud' Noe Jr., 74, Harlan, died Feb. 1, 2005, at the VA Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
He was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Harlan County. He was a retired clerk for Harlan Hardware and had been a security guard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He believed in the Church of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grant Noe and Sally Farley Noe; and three sisters, Francis Farmer, Mary Allen and Elsie Sizemore.
Survivors include four children: Nick Noe and wife, Donna, Harlan; Donna Childers and husband, Alton, Erwin, N.C.; Betty Noe, Goldsboro, N.C.; and Susie Chase and husband, Gary, Pikeville, N.C.; six grandchildren: Lyndsey Noe, Seth Noe, Zachary Noe, Stephanie Bossolono and husband, Brandon, Krystal Childers and Garrett Chase; four brothers: Elmer Noe, Loyall; Carl Noe, Barbourville; Bill Noe, Wallins; and Danny Noe, Cranks; one sister, Barbara Creech, Keith; and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Harlan Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Harlan Church of God with the Rev. Alton Childers and the Rev. Nick Noe officiating.
Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery at Keith with full military rites observed by the Harlan County Honor Guard.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

LeRoy Arnold Peterson

The Rev. LeRoy Arnold Peterson, 80, died Jan. 18, 2005, at the Lexington VA Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1924, in Muskegon, Mich. He was a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church. He became a Christian on Jan. 2, 1932. He was a Naval veteran of World War II, was educated at Clear Creek Mountain Preachers Bible School, now Clear Creek Baptist Bible College. He also received degrees from Columbia Bible College, now Columbia International University in Columbia, S.C. He also received a degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. He did specialized studies at Bellarmine College in Louisville.
He was licensed to preach by the Wallins Baptist Church and ordained by the Beechwood Baptist Church in Louisville. He was been a pastor of churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. He taught at Clear Creek Baptist Bible College for 29 years, 11 of which he was the academic dean.
In 1958, while attending Southern Seminary in Louisville, he worked for the Kentucky Farm Bureau. While there, he designed and built 'Freddy Farmbureau' which can still be seen at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville.
In 1961, while pastoring in western Tennessee, he established the 'first' Choctaw Indian Baptist Church in Goldlust, Tenn., under the Home Mission Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew C. Peterson and Mabel A. Peterson; and two brothers, Charlie Tyler and Donald Peterson.
Survivors include his wife, Irene B. Peterson, formerly of Wallins; one sister, Louise Madden, Grand Haven, Mich; two daughters: Esther Joyce Bailey and husband, Louis, Stanford; and Nancy Alice Holland and husband, Dewayne, Lancaster; grandchildren: Kristin Holland Bailey, Lubbock, Texas; Christopher Holland and wife, Koka, Lancaster; Elizabeth Bailey, Louisville; Michael Bailey, Danville; Rebecca Bailey, Stanford; Jeffrey Holland, Lancaster; one great grandson, Andrew Holland, Lancaster; and 17 brother and sister-in-laws and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today from 5 to 9 p.m. and at 8 a.m. Friday at Lancaster Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m.
Burial will follow in Camp Nelson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Aldridge, John Aldridge, the Rev. Johnny Adamson, the Rev. Bob Bausum, the Rev. Jerry Browning, and the Rev. Dale Denton.
Honorary pallbearers will LeRoy Peterson's Sunday School class and former Clear Creek Baptist College students of the Rev. Peterson's.

William Omar Pollitte
West Bloomfield, Mich.

William Omar Pollitte, 76, West Bloomfield, Mich., died Jan. 26, 2005, at the University Hills Nursing Home in Rochester Hills, Mich.
He was born in Harlan, the sone of the late George Omar and Clara Beckett Pollitte. He was a graduate of Harlan High School and retired after 30 years at General Motors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was married
to the late Janet Lorenz Pollitte.
Survivors include two sons: Wesley A. Pollitte, Imlay City, Mich.; and Robert J. Pollitte, West Bloomfield, Mich.; two granddaughters, Holly and Christina Pollitte; one brother, George Victor Pollitte, Lewisville, Texas; two sisters: Betty Dean Browning, Harlan; and Leona Blue, Knoxville, Tenn.; several first cousins: Carlyle Ackley, Florence; James Howard Pollitte, James D. Pollitte and Richard Aaron Pollitte, Maysville; David Ackley, Middletown, Ohio; Linda Ackley; Florence and Patsy Spain, Jacsonville, Fla.
Visitation is at the Olivet United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. at the church with James H. Pollitte officiating.

Maggie Meadows Pope, 92, Harlan, died Jan. 27, 2005, at Britthaven Nursing Home of the Tri-Cities.
Known as 'The Blanket Lady, ' she was a self-employed mercantile dealer, a member of Harlan Homemakers and Kelly Street Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, L.C. and Alice Vinson; her brothers: John Vinson, Otto Vinson and C.C. Vinson; a sister, Lola Parker; her first husband, John Morgan Meadows; and a second husband, Acles P. Pope; a daughter, Rose M. Howard; and a granddaughter, Jan Alice Crider.

Marion Powell Sr., 80, Somerset, Ohio, died Feb. 3, 2005, at his daughter's residence.
A native of Roseville, Ohio, he was a retired coal miner from Peabody Coal Company in New Lexington, Ohio. He was also a member of the Three Cs in the U.S. military and was a member of the United Mine Workers Association for over 40 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otis Powell and Nancy Shackleford Powell; four brothers: John Henry Powell, Carlo Powell, Otis William Powell and Herbert Powell; one sister: Faye Green; and one great grandson, Shad Robert Adams.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Baumgardner Powell; three sons: Clarence Powell, Roseville, Ohio; Marion Powell Jr. and wife, Carolyn; and Robert Powell and wife, Denise, Croksville; six daughters: Mary Etta Depuy and Ruby Nell Dennis, Crooksville; Daisy Winegardner and husband, Gale, Somerset; Reba Warden and husband, Stewart, Arizona; Alice Faye Hill and husband, Larry, Zanesville; and Fern Reed, Portersville; two brothers: Lawrence Powell and wife, Emma; and Ernest Powell and wife, Judy, Michigan; one sister: Vina Turner, New Lexington, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Emily Saylor Shuler, 79, Holmes Mill, died Jan. 18, 2005, at her home following a long illness.
A native of Harlan County, she lived here all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Closplint Church of God.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Shuler; her parents, Cora Ethel Creech Saylor and James William Saylor; two daughters: Janet and Faye Shuler; a sister, Pearlee Saylor; her brothers: Winston, Ralph, Luther, Clyde, Arnold, Frank and an infant son, Saylor; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Nevada and Will Shuler.
Survivors include seven children: William Shuler and wife, Ingrid, Evarts; Phillip Shuler and wife, Garrie, Pennington Gap, Va.; Wilma Short and boyfriend, Roy Williams, Lejunior; Edna Whitaker and husband, Lee Roy, Corbin; Rosella Guntle, Brenda Frederick and Connie Lynn Shuler, all of Holmes Mill; three sisters: Mona Johnson and husband, Frank, Indiana; Donna Peace and husband, Bud, Closplint; and Nancy Haynes and husband, Herman, California; three brothers: Joe Saylor and wife, Ruby, Illinois; Homer Saylor, Fourmile; and Clarence Saylor and wife, Glenda, California; 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Closplint Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Frank Howard and the Rev. Bob Maggard officiating.
Burial will follow in the Kelly Cemetery at Breedens Creek.
