Ulysses 'Runt' Monroe, 82, Lejunior, died Oct. 7, 2004, at Pineville Hospital.
A native of St. Charles, Va., he was a construction worker for the city of Cincinnati.
He was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Bryant Monroe; seven children: Hazel Faye Monroe, Ohio; Ruth Kist and husband, Ray, Harrison, Ohio; Nora Alene Cantrell and husband, Rick, Harrison, Ohio; Christina Pace and husband, Marvin, Lejunior; William Campbell and wife, Theresa, Gray; Franklin Monroe and wife, Rita, Lejunior; and Joe Monroe, Lejunior; four brothers: Roy Monroe and wife, Ludie, Wabash, Ind.; Frank Monroe and wife, Regina, Wabash, Ind.; Albert Monroe and wife, Margie, Greenville, S.C.; and Carl Monroe, Lejunior; two sisters: Hazel 'Tootsie' Lanham, Lejunior, and Georgia Hensley, Lejunior; 28 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Monroe and Virginia Kirk Monroe.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Shields Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. James Sanders officiating.
Burial will follow at Ridgeway Cemetery.
Visitation is today from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Evarts Funeral Home and after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Evarts Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alberta NcElhaney
Middlesboro
October 3, 2004
Alberta McElhaney, 94, Middlesboro, died Oct. 3, 2004, at Middlesboro ARH.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jordan and Clara Lewis, Harlan; 12 siblings; a daughter, Tommie Lee Menter and her husband, William; her husband, Fulton McElhaney; a grandson, Donald Menter; and a great-grandson, Dexter Menter and wife, Mills.
Survivors include seven grandchildren: Betty Clay, Harlan; Edna Tentman and her husband, Charles, Cincinnati, Ohio; and Lucius Menter and his wife, Viola, Cincinnati, Ohio; Bertha Martin and her husband, Arnold, Dayton, Ohio; William Hanyard Jr. and his wife, Menter, Milwaukee; and Mohyiddin Menter, and her husband, Willie, Milwaukee; and Christopher Columbus Menter and his wife, Jackie, Florida; 24 great-grandchildren, 53 great-great grandchildren, 14 great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She came to Harlan in 1949 and worked faithfully with her husband, Fulton McElhaney, at the Mount Olive Baptist Church. While living in Middlesboro, she was appointed as mother of the church at Thankful Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the London District Association. In recognition of her 94th birthday, May 5, 2004, was declared Mrs. Alberta McElhaney Day in Middlesboro by Mayor Ben Hickman.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Harlan Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Thankful Baptist Church in Middlesboro with the Rev. John Clark officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Harlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Grady Nix
Athens, Tennessee

Robert Nix
Robert Grady Nix, 58, Athens, Tenn., died Sept. 17, 2004, at his residence.
A native of Harlan, he was an employee of Mayfield Dairy in Athens, Tenn., and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Liggett Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Bessie Nix; and a brother, Charles Edward Nix.
Survivors include one son, Robert Grady Nix II, Louisville; two brothers: Wayne G. Nix, Harlan; and Lonnie Nix and wife, Anna, Salisbury, N.C.; nieces and nephews: Lynn Crawford and husband, Dave, Columbus, Ohio; Brian Nix and wife, Christie; Amy Lowe and husband, James, and their son Spencer, all of Salisbury, N.C.; a former wife, Laura Miller, Harlan; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Liggett Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations to help defer burial and medical expenses would be greatly appreciated and can be made to Robb Nix, c/o Laura Miller, P.O. Box 146, Baxter, KY 40806.

Delbert B. Nolan, 90, Loyall, died Sept. 15, 2004, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A native of Leslie County, he was a retired watch engineer at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bodie A. Nolan; his parents, E.M. Nolan and Sarah Jane Shell Nolan; two children: Barbara Farley Muncy and Betty Lou Shoemaker Turner; three brothers: Kenneth Nolan, Otto Nolan and Henry Nolan; and two sisters: Blanche Nolan and Alene Nolan.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy R. Nolan and wife, Brenda, Sunset Beach, N.C.; one sister, Hazel Shell, Loyall; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is today from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Loyall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Simpson officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Naomi Sturgill Parsons, 77, Lexington, formerly of Eolia, died Sept. 9, 2004, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Franks Creek freewill Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Morris; her parents, Bill and Ester Collier Sturgill; five brothers, Richard, Ray, August, Olin and Curtwood Sturgill; and a sister, Carrie A. Endres.
Survivors include her second husband, Vollie Parsons, Corbin; seven children: Elaine Jones, Kingsport, Tenn.; Anna Imber, Panama City, Fla.; Jerry Morris, Collingswood, N.J.; Lois Spencer, Lexington; Joseph Morris, West Liberty; Brenda Sexton, Eolia; and Linda Stevens, London; two sisters-in-law: Mable Gilliam and Grace Sturgill, both of Eolia; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday after 9 a.m. at Tri-City Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. the funeral home with the Rev. Verdell Sturgill officiating.
Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery in Whitesburg.
Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.
Tri-City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Alice Poore, 87, Lejunior, died Sept. 22, 2004, at her residence.
A native of Briceville, Tenn., she was a homemaker and a member of the Shields Pentecostal Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoy Jackson Poore; her parents, Harvey and Hattie Miller; four sons: James, Junior, Robert and Glenn Poore; and a sister, Ada Sexton.
Survivors include seven children: Sue Sanders and husband, James, Lejunior; Opal Witt, Lejunior; Mary Bennett, Eastbrook; Linda Bates and husband, Roy, Rogersville, Tenn.; Leon Poore, Clinton, Tenn.; Jerry Poore and wife Gail, Surgoinsville, Tenn.; and Bobby Poore, Church Hill, Tenn; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a niece, Mary Marlin Beasley and husband, Dan, Mount Sterling; and a host of friends.
Visitation is tomorrow after noon at the Shields Pentecostal Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the church with the Rev. Bill Moore and the Rev. Janice Fulkerson officiating.
Burial will follow at the Ridgeway Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Irma Jeanette 'Bubble' Brock Ray, 54, New Tazewell, Tenn., formerly of Benham, died Sept. 27, 2004, at the Claiborne County Hospital.
Born April 19, 1950, she was a member of Cumberland Pentecostal Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was an employee of Wal-Mart for over 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Seldon Ray, and her parents, Foster M. and Irma J. Brock.
Survivors include two sons: George Johnson Jr. and wife, Jenny, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Marcus Johnson and wife, Miranda, Cumberland; two daughters: Stacy Creech and husband, Anthony, New Tazewell, Tenn.; and Tracy Sherman and husband, Chris, Loganville, Ga.; two brothers; Foster M. Brock Jr., Harrogate, Tenn.; and Phillip Brock and wife, Jane, New Tazewell, Tenn.; a sister, Rose Culton and husband, John, Arizona; seven grandchildren: Brooke Johnson, Mary Kate Johnson, Mallory Johnson, Tyler Creech, Katelyn Creech, Clay Sherman and Spencer Sherman.
Family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Claiborne Funeral Home chapel and 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Tri-City Funeral Home in Benham.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Tri-City Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Michael Blair and the Rev. Eddie Estep officiating.
Burial will follow in the Huff Cemetery in Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Harold Moyers, Kyle Moyers, Donald Gladson Jr., Brian Gladson, Danny Murphy and Harrison Cornett II.
Claiborne Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
