Mabel Evans Kilgore, 93, Frankfort, formerly of Evarts, died Sept. 8, 2004, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A native of Virginia, she had lived in Evarts for 60 years. She worked as a secretary for Dayton Tool and Die Company and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Frankfort.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Kilgore; her parents, Lena Hale Evans and Dan Evans; one sister, Myrtle Evans; and three brothers: Roy Evans, Bud Evans and Winford Evans.
Survivors include three sisters: Thelma Crider, Evarts; Jean Barthel, Ohio; and Helen Griffith, Evarts; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Visitation is today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Rev. John Luttrell and the Rev. Mike Barthel officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Lawrence King, 73, New Straitsville, Ohio, died Oct. 2, 2004, at his home.
A native of Verda, he had lived here 40 years before moving to Ohio. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He was a retired coal miner with 35 years of service with Peabody Coal Company. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minerva Middleton King; his father, the Rev. Otis 'Tad' King; and one brother, Shockley King.
Survivors include his wife, Joan King, New Staitsville, Ohio; four children: Boyd Otis King and wife, Flora Lou, Crooksville, Ohio; Gwen Manning and her husband, James, Evarts; Rhonda King, and Tammy Buckley and husband, Kevin, all of New Straitsville Ohio; four stepchildren: Joan Warren, Tiny Warren, Tim Warren and his wife, Lora, and Tammy Warren and Jeff Doss, all of New Straitsville, Ohio; a sister, Mayme Polinchok, California; four grandchildren: Jason King, Tyler King, James Manning and Clara Warren; and two great-grandchildren: Cole Manning and Ethen Manning.
Visitation is Thursday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Evarts Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. at the King Cemetery at Verda with the Rev. Sonny Dean officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Harlan Honor Guard.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Jerry Tyce Lewis, 32, Taylorsville, died Sept. 7, 2004, at the University of Louisville Hospital.
A native of Benham, he was an employee of the Beaty Construction Company and a former coal miner. Lewis was an active member of the mission group and baptism committee of the Plum Creek Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, Walter Jerry Lewis.
Survivors include his wife, Becky Lewis, Taylorsville; a son, Tyler Lewis, Taylorsville; a daughter, Katie Lewis, Taylorsville; a mother, Linda Lewis, Taylorsville; and three brothers: Wayne Lewis, Berea; Wes Lewis and Bobby Lewis, both of Taylorsville.
Visitation is today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from noon until 9 p.m. on Friday at Hall-Taylor Funeral Home in Taylorsville.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Walzer officiating.
Burial will follow in the Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville.

William Eugene Metcalf

William Metcalf
William Eugene Metcalf, 74, Harrogate, Tenn., died Oct. 5, 2004, at the University of Tennessee Hospital.
A native of Harlan, he was a member and deacon at the First Christian Church in Middlesboro.
He retired after 35 years of service from BellSouth as outside plant engineer. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Opal Baker Metcalf; his children: Marvin Metcalf and Linda Metcalf; and a brother, Doyle Lee Metcalf.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Metcalf, Harrogate, Tenn.; two sons, Steven Metcalf and wife, Alicia, Harrogate, Tenn.; and David Metcalfe and wife, Kelly, Maryville, Tenn.; one sister, Anita Fisher, Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Rondal Wayne Metcalfe and wife, Barbara, Florida; six grandchildren: Holly and Haley Metcalf, Maryville, Tenn.; and Joshua, Jeremy, Jonathan and Meghan Metcalf, all of Harrogate, Tenn.; and six nephews.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. on Friday at the church with the Rev. Stephen Earle officiating.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Green Hills Memorial Gardens.
Deacons and elders of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund of the First Christian Church.

Silas Middleton, 83, Dayhoit, died Sept. 26, 2004, at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following an illness.
A native of Harlan County, he was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, a member of the Loyal Masonic Lodge 930, F.&A.M.;, the Oleika Temple, the Shriners and scottish Rite. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a former coal miner for Verda Coal Corporation and former sales manager of McComb's Supply Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Middleton and Sallie Clem Middleton; a daughter, Doxie Lynn Miniard; a son-in-law, Arthur Miniard; and two brothers: Edward Allen Middleton and Andrew Jackson 'A.J.' Middleton.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Bussell Middleton, Dayhoit; a grandson, Timothy Allen Miniard and wife, Tracie, Lexington; three great-grandchildren: Brittany Lynn Miniard, Timothy Allen Miniard Jr. and Haley Dawn Miniard; a sister, Evelyn Turner and husband, James, Harlan; a brother, Rex Middleton and wife, Bobbie, Montgomery, Ala.; a former granddaughter-in-law, Renee Sullivan; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Harlan Funeral Home. Scottish Rite services will be observed during visitation.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Harlan Funeral Home with the Rev. John D. Lambert and the Rev. Paul White officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery. Masonic rites will be performed at the cemetery.

Elizabeth Faye Romans Vanover, 74, Corbin, died Sept. 24, 2004, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington
A native of Harlan County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Mary Helen United Methodist Church, Harlan and the Church of Nazarene in Corbin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Romans and Elizabeth Parsley Romans; her husband, George Edward Vanover; a brother, Drewey Romans; and a sister, Eudell Romans.
Survivors include a son, Charles Edward Vanover, Corbin; three daughters: Vickie Vanover Cook and husband, Gary, Berea; Vera Vanover Spurlock and husband, Wayne, Lily; and Vivian Vanover Faulkner and husband, David, Morrow, Ohio; a special friend, Brenda Wagers, Corbin; a brother, Fred Romans, Courtland, N.Y.; two sisters: Doris Hubbs, Harlan; and Mae Romans Suchy, Corbin; four grandchildren: Eddie Cook, Liza Faulkner, Samuel Faulkner and Joshua Spurlock; special grandchildren: Kimberly McHargue and Derek McHargue; several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Doyle N. Miracle, 67, Wabash, Ind., died Sept. 17, 2004, at the Wabash County Hospital.
A native of Harlan County, he was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Wabash, the Wabash Eagles Lodge and a 33-year member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers local 1240.
He was retired from Wabash Alloys with 33 years of service.
He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Survivors include two daughters: Diana Gibson and husband, Jerry, Loyall; and Sherry Strickler, Wabash, Ind.; two brothers: Jack Miracle and wife, Anne, Wabash, Ind.; and Kenneth Miracle and wife, Frances, London; two sisters: Nyoka Daniels and husband, Don, New Tazwell, Tenn.; and Faye Blakeman and husband, Don, Skyland, N.C. and a granddaughter, Hannah Strickler, Wabash, Ind..
