James M. Clayton Jr.
1929-2009
TEXAS - James M. Clayton Jr. passed away January 30, 2009 at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home, in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on March 29, 1929.
He was the son of James (“Chin”) and Lucille Clayton of Morehead, Kentucky. James Sr. established the Eagles Nest Restaurant in Morehead and operated it for 50 years. James Jr. lived in Morehead, Ky. and graduated from Breckinridge High School. After high school he entered the School of Engineering at the University of Kentucky, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Korea during the war until he retired in 1954. Jim learned to fly when he was young and never lost his love for the sky. After moving to Dallas in 1964, he began flying glider planes and became an instructor. He worked as a sales engineer with BS&S; for oil field equipment, living in Venezuela for a number of years and spending some time in Kuwait. He was also with Hudson-Rush Company for thirty years as a Manufacturer’s Representative. Jim served as a Scoutmaster for several years and was a member of the Highlands Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Leslie Clayton, and is survived by his wife of 53 years Gloria, son Steve Clayton and sisters Laura C. Pollaro and Lida Lou Paro. Jim will be remembered by many Moreheadians, especially for his smile.
Emma Grace Hyatt Markwell
1924-2009
MOREHEAD – Emma Grace Hyatt Markwell, age 84, of Grayson, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the Carter County Nursing Home in Grayson, Kentucky.
Born September 12, 1924, in Russell, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Troy and Ella Cooper Hyatt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Earl Gene Williams and Robert Markwell, and a granddaughter, Stefanie Williams.
Survivors include four daughters, Connie Porter of Morehead, Kentucky, Gaile Owens of Ashland, Kentucky, Janet Hollenbach of North Beach, Maryland, and Rephunzel Bowling of Manassas, Virginia; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, George Hyatt and Loren Hyatt, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and two sisters, Christine Butler of Morehead, Kentucky, and Renie Cassidy of Perrysburg, Ohio.
Mrs. Markwell was a homemaker, former employee of Morehead State University, and member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Stegall officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Owens, Casey Owens, Nick Craft, Stephen Craft, Ray Cooper, and Tony Hyatt.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Rev. Millard E. Petitt
1921-2009
SALT LICK – Rev. Millard E. Petitt, age 87, of U.S. 60 East, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1921, in Bath County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Willie and Mollie Evans Petitt. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by nine siblings: Odesa “Dessie” Gabbard, Janie Jennings, Zora Petitt, Arthur Petitt, Mitchell Petitt, Harlan Petitt, Alma Collins, Ethel Hall and Wales Petitt.
Rev. Petitt is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eula Rice Petitt, whom he married
February 16, 1951; three daughters, Glenda Petitt of Morehead, Kentucky, Sue Ginter and husband Dwain of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Elizabeth Petitt of Maysville, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Clarissa Jordan Ginter and Mollie Francene Ginter; and one sister, Oda Razor of Moreland, Indiana.
Rev. Petitt was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a lifelong member of the Church of God. He served as pastor at the Cranston First Church of God for over 20 years.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lowell Rice and the Rev. Vernon Gross officiating.
Burial will follow at the Owingsville Cemetery in Owingsville, Kentucky, with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Caudill, Lincoln Caudill, Steve Caudill, June Caudill, Anthony Anderson, Paul Anderson, and Dwain Ginter.

Virginia Waddell
1941-2009
OLIVE HILL - Virginia Gail Porter Waddell, age 67, of Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord Sunday evening, March 1, 2009, at the Saint Claire Regional Medical Center, in Morehead, Kentucky.
Ms. Waddell was born December 6, 1941, in Elliott County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Charles Cleveland "Charlie" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Middleton Porter.
Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She was a Christian and of the Church of God faith. Virginia was a 1961 graduate of Sandy Hook High School and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Douglas Waddell on January 18, 2003. One brother, Bert Porter, three half-brothers, Clell Porter, infants Ed Porter and Clyde Porter, two step-brothers, Gomez Leadingham and James Mackie Leadingham, two sisters, Bonnie Porter and Glow Porter, eight half-sisters, Bess Rose, Laura Mabry, Maxine Rose, Elizabeth Bowling, Geraldine Simmons, infants, Lennie Porter, Mae Porter, Glory Porter, two step-sisters, Berlita Stevens and Glenna Jean Evans. Step-mother, Nellie Brown Leadingham Porter.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, William and Viola Waddell of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Timothy and Glenna Waddell and Dana Lee Waddell all of Morehead, Kentucky. One daughter, Tammy Ann Fields of Elliott County, Kentucky. Fifteen grandchildren, Kelly and husband Jeremy Benton of Clearfield, Kentucky, Chesla and husband Stephen Marcus of Morehead, Kentucky, Amanda Waddell of El Paso, Texas, Jennifer Waddell of Lancaster, Kentucky, Zach Fields of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Channing Knipp, Chaston Knipp, Elizabeth Fields, Josh Fields, Gunnar Waddell and Gauge Waddell all of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Kaden Waddell and Jacob Waddell both of Morehead, Kentucky. Her children’s father, Bill Waddell of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Daughter-in-law Brigitte Waddell of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Four brothers and sisters-in-law, Glennis and Arlene Porter, Vaughn Porter, Dale and Judy Porter all of Mansfield, Ohio, Raymond "Jewel" and Garnet Porter of Elliott County, Kentucky. One step-brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Gail Leadingham of Lilburn, Georgia. Two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Ann Perry of Marion, Indiana, Eleanor and Dave Wilcox of Warrenton, Virginia. Three half-sisters, Gladys Porter of Mansfield, Ohio, Dixie Manning of Muldraugh, Kentucky and Faye Blizzard of Grayson, Kentucky. Eight step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Alberta Craycraft of Lexington, Kentucky, Donna and Don Owens of Emerson, Kentucky, Alice and Rodney Kegley of Mableton, Georgia, Sharon and Don Frazier of Grahn, Kentucky, Connie Lemon and Vickie Mosier both of Glenmont, Ohio, Shelia and George Kiser, Rita and Clifford Roe all of Olive Hill, Kentucky. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Billy T. Rice, Brother Clyde Eugene Dickerson and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial followed in the Old Fairview Cemetery on Fairview Road in Elliott County, Kentucky.
Dolores M. Ellington
1935-2009
MOREHEAD – Dolores M. Ellington, 74, of Lexington formerly of Rowan County passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at her home.
She was born on March 12, 1935 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Fred and Tina Ward Ellington.
Ms. Ellington was retired from G.T.E. as an assignment clerk. She was a member of the CWA Union and was an avid country music and UK Wildcat fan.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Fugate, one sister, Flossie June Williams and five brothers, Orville, Claude, Chester, Ledford and Hansford Ellington.
Survivors include one son, Terrell Fugate and his wife, Sue of Frankfort, two granddaughters, Jaime Wagoner and Kimberly Fugate, one great-granddaughter, Cierra Wagoner and daughter-in-law, Anita Fugate, all of Lexington.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, March 21, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Chaplain Diane Munoz and Rev. Don Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellington Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friday.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Donald Lloyd Kissick
1938-2009
MOREHEAD – Donald Lloyd Kissick, age 70, of Heritage Place, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, March 16, 2009, at his residence.
He was born August 17, 1938, in Fleming County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Lloyd and Lillian Moore Kissick. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Joyce May, Irene Reynolds, and Mary Caudill, and one brother, Glen Kissick.
Surviving are two sons, Randy (Velda) Kissick and Jeff (Connie) Kissick, and two daughters, Cindy (David) Thomas and Becky (Levi) Banks, all of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, Gary Kissick of Polksville, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was a former truck driver for Don Hall’s Trucking Company in Morehead. He always enjoyed driving his truck and watching U.K.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 20, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Ellington Cemetery.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Delbert Lemaster
1936-2009
SOLDIER – Delbert Lemaster, age 73, of Soldier, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
He was born January 26, 1936, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Henry and Della Crisp Lemaster. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Scotty Keith Haines; two brothers, Coy Lemaster and Earl Lemaster; and three sisters, Ethel Eden, Nellie Burton, and Naomi Stinson.
Delbert is survived by two sisters, Dotsie Manda Goodan and Linda Jane Lemaster, both of Olive Hill, Kentucky; one brother, Raymond Lemaster of Soldier, Kentucky; one stepson, Danny Haines of Bradenton, Florida; three stepdaughters, Mary Evelyn Poor of Bradenton, Florida, Angela Dawn Eldridge of Goddard, Kentucky, and Amanda Diane Atkins of Farmers, Kentucky; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lemaster retired from Detroit Steel in Mansfield, Ohio. He was a Christian of the Baptist Faith.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Austin Carter, Brother Robert Buckler, and Brother Ronnie Royse officiating. Burial will follow in the Lemaster Cemetery, Goodan Cemetery Road, Soldier, Kentucky.
