LEWIS
Jamie Lewis, 56 of Jones Creek passed away Sunday August 4, 2013 at the Harlan ARH.
Jamie was a disabled Coal Miner and enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He especially loved children.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Browning Lewis; his maternal grandfather, Homer Browning; paternal grandparents, John M. and Mossie Lewis.
He is survived by his devoted wife Treva Stewart Lewis for 33 years; son, Joseph (Cassie) Whelchel of Gulfport, MS; loving daughter, Racheal (Jake) Lewis; a very special nephew that he loved like a son, Jamie Stewart; his father, Shirley Lewis of Jones Creek; grandmother, Maggie Browning of Harlan; 2 sisters, Pam (Paul) Dean; New Tazewell, TN, Tammy (Joel) Coots of LeJuinor, KY; 3 brothers, Ken (Diana) Lewis of Gainesboro, TN, David (Lisa) Lewis of Evarts, and Gary Lewis of Jones Creek.
Visitation will be after 4:00 pm Tuesday at the Jones Creek Church of The Living God and all day Wednesday at the Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday at the Church with Rev. Paul Dean and Rev. John Luttrell officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lewis Family Cemetery at Jones Creek. Family & Friends will serve as Pallbearers.

WALTERS
James Chester Walters, age 90, of Cumberland, KY passed away at the Tri-City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Friday, August 2, 2013. He was born May 05, 1923 in Wilton, KY to the late James and Emily Reves Walters. James worked as a coal miner and was a member of the Pathfork Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Hurley Walters; son, Wayne Walters; and a grandson, Bradley Howard.
He is survived by his daughter, Carmelita Lynn Eldridge and husband, Charles, of Cumberland; sister, Edith Barker of Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Wayne Howard and wife, Lynn, and Waylon Howard and wife, Angie; great grandchildren, Bradley Howard, Cassidy Howard, Cody Howard, Jace Vernon, Nick Vernon, Storm Eldridge and Daisy Eldridge; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY on Monday, August 05, 2013, between 6 – 9 pm. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 06, 2013, at 11 am with the Reverend Roger Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Alva Memorial Gardens in Pathfork, KY. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

DOANE
Arthur “Junior” Doane, age 64, of Ages, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 2, 2013, at his home following a short illness where he was surrounded by his loving family and a host of church family. He was born on May 7, 1949 in Harlan County and had lived here his entire life. He enjoyed the outdoors but most of all he enjoyed serving the Lord. He was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Ages and Cawood Pentecostal Churches and visited many other churches throughout the region.
Junior was preceded in death by his father, Arthur “Ott” Doane; his mother, Roxie Greer Doane; and a special uncle, Kelles Greer, Sr.
Survivors include his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and David Burkhart, Ages; a special niece, Lisa LeAnne Burkhart, Knoxville; a special nephew and wife, David Jason and Rachel Burkhart, Harlan; a special aunt, Virginia Greer, Coxton; and cousins, Johnny Greer and the Rev. Kelles Greer, Jr. and his family. Also surviving are his church family and his special dog, Tiffy. He was a loving brother, uncle and a friend to everyone. He will be missed dearly.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home and after 1 pm Monday at the Ages Pentecostal Church.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at 2 pm at the Church with the Reverends Kelles Greer, Jr., Jerry Collins, Terry Baker and Jessie Kinder officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be brothers of the church.

THACKER
Vernon Darrell Thacker, age 68, of Middlesboro, KY passed away Friday, August 2, 2013 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville TN. He was born March 4, 1945, a son of the late Ernest and Willie Mae Adkins Thacker. He was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, serving in Germany, and was a sergeant from 1965 to 1967. He retired after over 30 years of service from the National Park Service where he was the Road and Trail Supervisor for Cumberland Gap National Park. He loved to golf and fish, and volunteered at the Pineville Golf Course. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Doug, Lonnie Dale, and Jimmy Thacker.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Mable Barnett Thacker; daughter: Melanie Thacker (Greg) Cody; brother: Harold Thacker; and a host of brothers & sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services will be 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel with Rev.Audie Miracle. Graveside services will be held 12 noon Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Mt.View Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Scott Keith, Gary Keith, Lee Thompson, Wayne Thacker, Nathan Andage, Donnie Miracle, and Doug Thacker, Josh Marsee. The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Shumate Funeral Home Chapel. Family wishes to offer special recognition to sister-in-law, Opal Thompson and Glessie Hurst nephew, Lee Thompson, for all their help during Vernon’s illness.

Audrey Browning
Audrey Bruce Browning, 86, of Pineville, formerly of Evarts, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012, at the Pineville Community Hospital. She was born June 29, 1926 in Harlan County and had lived in Evarts for many years. Audrey was a beautician and believed in the Baptist faith.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Browning; her father, Harley Bruce; her mother, Lola Hatfield Bruce; one daughter, Lynn Browning; one son-in-law, Joseph Manwell; six brothers, Fred, Tug, Bill, Jim, Sam and David Bruce.
Survivors include four children, Danny Browning and wife, Lisa, Bean Station, TN; Barbara Manwell, Bloomfield Hills, MI; Michael Browning, Pineville; and Karan Browning and husband, Arnold Marsee, Pineville; one brother Floyd “Bob” Bruce, Verda; two sisters, Sue Robinson, South Dakota; and Doris Williams, Tazewell, TN. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Sherry Browning, Tim Browning, Shannon Whigham, Sumer Marsee and Kristopher Marsee; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 pm in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 1 PM in the chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home with the Reverend Larry Parker officiating.

Sarah Ashley Blanton
1987-2009
PAINTSVILLE - Sarah Ashley Blanton, age 22, of Oil Springs, passed away Monday in Morehead, Kentucky.
Sarah was born July 19, 1987 at Boyd County, Kentucky, daughter of Daryl E. and Valerie Melinda Lewis Blanton of Oil Springs, Kentucky.
She is also survived by one brother, Michael Daryl and Becky Blanton of Lexington, Kentucky; maternal grandmother, Naomi Lewis of West Liberty, Kentucky; paternal grandmother, Patsy Blanton Caudill of Oil Springs, Kentucky; paternal step-grandfather, Hager Caudill of Oil Springs, Kentucky; special nephew, Rex Blanton of Lexington, Kentucky; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was a recent graduate of Morehead State University.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, December 3, 2009, in the Chapel of Jones-Preston Funeral Home with Keith Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Lewis Cemetery at Wrigley, Kentucky.
Anna Maxine Hall Brown
1927-2009
MOREHEAD – Anna Maxine Hall Brown, age 82, of Leisure Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at the Life Care Center of Morehead.
Born May 26, 1927, in Menifee County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late James Floyd and Almeda Reed Hall.
Her husband, Russell Brown, preceded her in death on February 10, 2001.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her daughter, Almeda Karin Brown of Morehead, Kentucky; her son, Russell Len Brown and his wife Janis Irene of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jonathan Shane Brown, Derek Len Brown, Joshua Ryan Brown, Anna Marie Brown, and Holly Ann Brown; and one great grandson, Whitt Brown.
Mrs. Brown was a homemaker, a former employee of the Holiday Inn, and a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle.
Funeral services were conducted 3 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Thomas and the Rev. Max Molihan officiating. Burial was in the Clearfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Shane Brown, Derek Len Brown, Joshua Ryan Brown, Dale Carpenter, Bobby Blevins, and Glenn Hall.
Visitation was after 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
