Marlene Compton Neal
1934-2009
JEFFERSONVILLE – Marlene Compton Neal, age 74, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, with her family and friends by her side.
Born December 26, 1934, in Grundy, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Lizzie Mattney Compton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Neal; two sons, Michael “Duke” Neal and Kenneth Douglas Neal; and five brothers, John, Jimmy, Therman, Hester, and Willie Compton.
Mrs. Neal is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mike Cockrell, and her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Tina Neal, all of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Bryan Puckett and Heather Neal, both of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Kenny Neal of Raleigh, North Carolina, Maria Brown of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Jason Neal of New Ulm, Minnesota; and two great grandchildren, Tristan Neal and Whitt Brown.
Other survivors include two brothers, Mack Compton of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, and Leonard Compton of Morrilton, Arkansas, and two sisters, Alma Sloan and Kelsa Forbes, both of Green Cove Springs, Florida.
Mrs. Neal was a retired seamstress and upholsterer and a member of the Jeffersonville Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the Jeffersonville Baptist Church with Brother Steve Creech officiating. Burial will be in the Lovely Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Puckett, David Dillinger, Omer Wilson, Jeff Clemons, AJ Williams, and Dennis Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Pitts and Charlie Puckett.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009, at Jeffersonville Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, KY.
Louise Mae “Penny” Hardin Ousley
1946-2009
MOREHEAD – Louise Mae “Penny” Hardin Ousley, age 63, of Clearfield Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 30, 2009, at her residence.
Born June 26, 1946, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Mary Brown Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Barry Goodpaster, in 1966.
Penny is survived by her husband, Hager Ousley; one daughter, Tina Back of Morehead, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Samantha Eldridge and Christine Crouch; and one great grandson, Brennen Eldridge.
Other survivors include three brothers, Ray Donahue of Hillsboro, Kentucky, Gordon Donahue of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Gary Donahue of Richmond, Kentucky; and one sister, Arvilla Mynhier of Hillsboro, Kentucky.
Penny was a homemaker and a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle. She enjoyed going to church and working with flowers in her yard.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Max Molihan officiating. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery. Pall bearers were her brothers and nephews.
Visitation was 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Martha Catherine Carroll Wilson
1932-2009
OLIVE HILL - Martha Catherine Carroll Wilson, age 77, of Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away, Tuesday morning, December 1, 2009, at her residence in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
She was born January 8, 1932, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late James Frank and Inez Littleton Carroll.
Mrs. Wilson was a homemaker and attended the Pleasant Valley Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-nine years, Lewis Wilson; four brothers, Stanley Allen Carroll, Ellwood Matthew Carroll, William Jay Carroll and Sidney Albert Carroll; one sister, Jessie Bellew.
Her survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Michael and Brenda Wilson of Olive Hill, Kentucky; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela Denise and Jim Smith of Morehead, Kentucky, Melanie Dawn and David Collins of Jackson, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Jim Smith, Jr., Kevin Smith, Scott Smith, Aaron Collins, Brittany Collins and Jonathan Collins; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Smith, Caleb Smith and Brady Smith; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Vaughan and Betty Carroll of Lexington, Ohio, Ersel and Edna Carroll of Lucas, Ohio; two sisters and a brother-in-law, June Fultz of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Ruth and Fred King, Jr. of Grayson, Kentucky; her special friend, Kenny Stevens; She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends that will sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky with Brother Tom James and Brother Randy Binion officiating. Burial followed in the McFerren Cemetery in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
William Howard
William K. Howard (Bill K) age 87of Wallins, KY, went to his heavenly home on December 17, 2012. He was born in Wallins Creek, KY on January 18, 1925 and lived there until he moved to Baxter five years ago. He was the son of John L. and Fannie Howard. He was a long-time and faithful member of the Wallins Christian Church. He joined the U.S. Marines at the age of 17 and served during WWII. He fought in the Pacific Campaign on the islands of Saipan and Titian. He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky and a lifetime member of the KY Alumni Association. He was also an avid fan and supporter of the Kentucky Wildcats football and basketball teams. He was employed by the Harlan County Schools for 38 years. Throughout his career, he enjoyed working with the students in Blackstar, Wallins (assistant principal), Evarts and Benham (principal). During his tenure, he was a teacher, assistant principal, principal, Director of Transportation, and Administrator for the County Junior High Sports Teams.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Edna Helton Howard; brothers, Estill Howard, Larkin Howard, Steve Howard; sisters, Ruth Rhinehart, Crystal Bryan, and Mary Lee Greer.
He is survived by two sons, Bruce Howard and wife Pat of Baxter and Bob Howard and wife Susan of Fernandina Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Adam Howard of Baxter, KY, Jessica Mackesy of St. Petersburg, FL and Justin Howard of Tucson, AZ and one great grandchild, Logan Mackesy. Several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. with the Rev. Obie Clark officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the funeral hour in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY with military rites conducted by the Harlan County Honor Guard who will also serve as pallbearers.
Mount Pleasant Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
BOWMAN
Austin Wade Bowman, 9 of Pound, Va., entered into his Lord and Savior’s arms Wednesday April 3, 2013.
Austin was a born again Christian who loved his Lord, he was a third grader at J W Adams Combined School in Pound, and a member of the youth football and baseball teams. He loved to dance and play the guitar and outdoor activities. He always looked out for his twin brother Aidan.
Austin is survived by his mother, Crystal Bowman, his father, William D. Bowman II; his twin brother, Aidan Bowman; maternal grandparents, Wade and Avenell Shortt-Pound, VA and Linda and Lynn Phillips-Clintwood, VA; paternal grandparents William D. Bowman-Baxter, KY and Hurston and Mary Blanton-Rosspoint, KY; several aunts, uncle and cousins; his teammates and coaches on the Pound youth football and baseball teams; and his classmates and teachers at J W Adams Combined School.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Saturday April 6, 2013 at the J W Adams Combined School Auditorium-Pound, VA with Pastor Randy Carter and Pastor Roland B. Lee officiating and the Glady Fork Singers and the Harvest Worship Team singing. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Sunday April 7, 2013 at the Wade Shortt Cemetery-Pound, VA where Tim Shortt, Danny Lee, Josh Bowman, Brandon Blanton, Evan Austin and Anthony Sturgill will serve as pallbearers. His football and baseball teammates will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at Baker Funeral Home by 12:30 pm to go in procession to the cemetery.

PIPPIN
Pauline Pippin, age 90 years, of Benham, KY left this earthly world for her heavenly home on Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Laurel Heights Care Facility in London, KY. She was born September 09, 1922 to the late Gracie and Columbus Cummins of Benham, KY. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Cumberland, KY. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Pippin, brothers, Russell Cummins, Kenneth Cummins and Curtis Cummins; sisters, Lillian Creech, Helen Deal and Reva Hunt.
She is survived by her children, Lynn Edward Pippin (Linda) of Ocean Springs, MS, Brenda Estep (Charles) of Corbin, KY, and Bruce Pippin (Debbie) of Richmond, KY; brother, Ray Cummins of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Lance Pippin, Chad Estep, Shane Pippin, Lane Pippin, Jason Estep and Tenille Johnson; great grandchildren, Mikayla, Katie, Maddox, Christian, Chase, Cady, Belle, Mallory, Camden, Rose and Bret; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, between 11 am and 1 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at 1 pm with the Reverend Roger Colinger and Reverend Bruce Walzer. Interment will follow in the Benham Cemetery in Benham, KY.
Pallbearers are Lance Pippin, Chad Estep, Jason Estep, Lane Pippin, Shane Pippin and Mickey Johnson.
