Marjorie Lee Boggs, age 81, of Lynch, KY passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare Emergency Room. She was born September 27, 1931 in Letcher County, KY to the late Robert and Leona Fuller Shotton. Marjorie was of the Mormon faith and had worked as a Stanley Products Representative.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Hiram Boggs, Jr.; son, Hiram Boggs, III; brothers, Roy Shotton, Stanley Shotton, Jessie Shotton and Robert Shotton, Jr.

Marjorie is survived by her children, Bobby Boggs and Sherry of Lynch, Billy Boggs of Cumberland, Wanda Sheback and Tom of Berea, Marjorie McKnight and Danny of Cumberland, Jeff Boggs and Meloni of Lynch, Stella Vanover and George of Hueytown, AL, Liz Henson and Gary of Sharps Chapel, TN; brothers, Willard Shotton of California, James Shotton of Sparta, TN and Eddie Dean Shotton of Tennessee; sisters, Faye Aniesly of Chillicothe, OH, Shirley Schmidth of Nevada, Lynda Baldwin of Iowa, and Minnie Gentry of Nevada; grandchildren, Bobby Sue Chavez, Patricia Weiner, Marjorie Simmons, Billy Joe Boggs, Amy Boggs, Valerie Himes, Christie Fuller, Hope Lewis, Paul McKnight, Jr., Paula Johnson, T. J. Boggs, Nikki Cozart, Jessica Fields, Tony Vanover and Mark Vanover; 26 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY on Tuesday, April 23, 2013, from 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in the chapel at 2 pm with Brother Sam Gilbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Jake Creech Cemetery in Cumberland, KY. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Tri City Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

SCEARSE

Arlena (Tena) Begley Scearse, age 91 of Baxter, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Arlena was born on January 13, 1922 unto the union of her parents, Oscar Begley and Mallie Huff Begley in Little Laurel, Kentucky.

Besides her parents, Arlena is preceded in death by her husband, Franklin P. Scearse whom she married on February 15, 1937; her two daughters, Juanita Cornett and Glessie (Bobbie) Davidson; three sons William (Butch) Scearse, Reed Allen Scearse, and James Kenneth Scearse; grand children: Franklin Eugene Scearse, Damian Scearse, Keith Davidson, Phillip Cornett, Sharon Dailey and Earl Scease; and great-daughter, Amber Kelley.

Left to cherish her memory are her children:, Earl Tracy and Linda Begley of Bledsoe; Roger Dale and Sandra Scearse of Indianapolis, IN; Douglas and Diane Scearse of Trenton, OH; Jamie Kelley of Rosspoint; Frank and Pamela Scearse of Baxter; Mallie Scearse of Rosspoint; Robert and Joyce Scearse of Bledsoe; and Margaret Warner of Midwest City, OK; brother, RB Begley of West Virginia and sister Louise Huff of Tennessee; 31 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Also mourning her loss is her special friend, Carolyn Bledsoe.

Visitation for Arlena will be held Thursday, April 25, from 6-8 in the Chapel of Henson & Rich Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted at Friday, April 26, at 11AM at the Chapel of Henson & Rich Funeral Home with Rev. Kermit Creech officiating. Interment will follow at the Nolan Cemetery on Pine Mountain. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

BURCHFIELD

Estil “Big E” E. Burchfield, age 46, of Morristown, TN passed away April 22, 2013 after a long illness. He was born May 7, 1966 in Harlan, KY to the late Roy L. and Anna Burchfield. He was a factory worker and believed in the Baptist Faith.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Danny Burchfield.

He is survived by his brothers: Eddie and wife, Mariam, of Nebraska, Benny and wife, Lisa, of Morristown, TN, Roy Burchfield and wife, Keisha, of South Carolina, sister, Barbara Burchfield, of Somerset, KY, 6 nephews, and 6 nieces including 2 special nieces: Brandie and Shelbie.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with funeral immediately following at 11:00AM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

LONG

Tori Adalyn Kathleen Long, 15 month old daughter of Jessica Combs and Jeremy Long became God’s precious angel Monday, April 22, 2013, at her home in Cawood following a long illness.

Survivors include her parents, Jessica Combs and Jeremy Long, Cawood; two sisters, Kaylee Long and Bethany Combs, both of Cawood; her grandparents, Zola Farley, Evarts; Jerry Long, Jones Creek; Mary Combs and Tim Combs, Cawood; aunts, Amber Long, Evarts; Heather McCoun, Putney; uncles, Devin Long, Jones Creek; Josh Combs, Harlan; Timothy Combs, Putney; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 24, 2013, from 12 noon until 1 pm at the Verda First Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 1 pm. The Reverend Danny McCreary and the Reverend Darrell Turner will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Long Family Cemetery at Jones Creek.

DAY

Gracie Day, age 70, of Bledsoe, KY passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Harlan ARH. She was born August 31, 1942 at Pine Mountain, KY to the late John and Bertha Napier Ray. She was a homemaker and a loving mother and nanny to all. She believed in the Pentecostal Faith.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Griffith, brothers, Denver, Charles, Bill, Ray, Homer and Bige Ray, sisters Mary Brock, Evelyn Jean Whitehead, and Arie Ray.

She is survived by her husband, John Day, of Bledsoe, KY, children: Bonnie Lewis of Bledsoe, KY, Barbara and Curtis Hensley of Loyall, KY, Lisa Mosley of Bledsoe, KY, Paul Brock of Bledsoe, KY, Beth and James Boggs of Big Laurel, KY, son-in-law, Lee Roy Griffith of Bledsoe, KY, brothers: James and Alleen Ray of Indianapolis, IN, Clarence Ray of Helton, KY, David Wayne Ray, sister in law, Marie Ray Newhart, sisters: Chloe Stewart of Baxter, KY, Loretta and Walter Whitehead of Girdler, KY, 20 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2013 from 5:00 to 9:00PM at the Bledsoe Pentecostal Church, Bledsoe, KY. Funeral will be Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 1PM with Reverends Doug Turner and John Whitehead officiating. Burial will follow at the Napier Cemetery, Bledsoe, KY with friends and family serving as pallbearers.

KIRK

Anna Stapleton Kirk, 89 of Loyall went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Tennova Healthcare North Knoxville Medical Center following a long illness. Born July 25, 1923 in Wise County, VA, she had lived here most of her life. She was a devoted member of the Loyall United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years to the Ladies Susannah Daughter’s Class. Anna was an avid gardener and loved working with her flowers. She was a homemaker and also enjoyed being a volunteer at Loyall High School and the Loyall Youth Center during the 1960’s.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold K. Kirk; her parents, Charles and Barbara Robbins Stapleton; brother Charles Stapleton; four sisters, Helen Stapleton, Lena Stapleton Farley, Virginia Stapleton and Evelyn Stapleton Webster.

Anna is survived by two daughters, Linda Kirk, Loyall and Phyllis Kirk Culvahouse and husband, Alan, Knoxville, TN; one granddaughter, Lesley Culvahouse Cole and husband, Kevin, Knoxville, TN; two great-granddaughters, Kayla Ann and Gillian Anderson Cole, Knoxville, TN; two brothers, J.C. Stapleton and wife, Margie of Augusta, GA; and Jack Stapleton and wife, Inez of Goshen, OH; one sister, Bobbie Stapleton Young and husband, Bill of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law, Audrey Stapleton, Panama City Beach, FL; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, in the chapel of Loyall Funeral Home with funeral service following at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Arnold Hammons and Reverend Don Ferguson officiating.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Gardens, Woodway, VA.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Loyall United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 323, Loyall, KY 40854 or your favorite charity.

Loyall Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements.
