Burma Gail (Simpson) Blanton, 65 of Wallins passed away Sunday June 22, 2014 at the Knox Co. Hospital.
Burma was born Jan. 25, 1949 in Harlan, KY to the late Denver Simpson and Louise Russell Simpson Sullivan. She was a caregiver for the elderly and attended the Coldiron Church of God Mountain Assembly.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Sumpter and grandson, Jacob Sumpter.
She is survived by her children, Robert Sumpter of Wallins, Faith Simpson of Dayhoit, and Shannon Fernandez of Wallins; the father of her children, Eugene Sumpter; grandchildren, Tesia Simpson, Patrick Sumpter, Hope Williams, Destiny Rasberry, Alisha and Anisha Williams, and Katilyn Sumpter; 2 great grandchildren, Aubreyonna Rasberry and Kayden Sumpter; 3 sisters, Billie Rose Smith of Fresh Meadows, Wanda Hunt of Lafollette, TN and Oliva Greene of Tazewell, TN; she leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn her passing.
Visitation will be Wednesday (June 25) from 12-3 at the Coldiron Church of God Mountain Assembly.
Funeral services will follow at 3:00 pm at the Church with Rev. Jack Carmical officiating.
Burial will follow in the family cemetery at Coldiron, KY.

Noble Lee Hobbs

Died: Sat., Jun. 21, 2014
Noble Lee Hobbs, 37 of Gulston passed away Saturday June 21, 2014 at the Harlan ARH, following a brief illness with Cancer.
He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Dillman and a brother, Tracy Collins.
He is survived by his mother, Fonda Hobbs; 2 brothers, Ricky Hobbs and Carl Collins all of Harlan; a sister, Candie Hobbs of Indiana; he also leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be Tuesday (June 24) from 12-2 at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. John Lundy officiating.
Burial will follow in the Pace Cemetery at Smith.

Johnny Turner

Johnny Turner, 61 of Cawood, Kentucky completed his earthly journey Thursday, January 15, 2015 at his home peacefully. Johnny was a retired truck driver having driven cross-country as well as locally. He was known to his fellow truck drivers as “Slim”.
Johnny was a dedicated husband and father; he enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also volunteered several years for the Boy Scouts of America.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jacob; parents, Arnold and Oma; brothers, Ralph and Leon; daughter-in-law, Alicia; step-father and mother-in-law, Bert and Willie Jordan; and father-in-law, Bethel Stewart, Sr.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn and their children and grandchildren, Lorabeth (Wesley) King and children Ronnie and Adrienne of Jonesborough, TN; Joshua Turner and daughter, Kami; Jonathan “J.T.” (Amanda) Turner and son Luke; Joseph (Kori) Turner with their sons Levi and Max, all of Cawood, KY; and Lacey (Philip) Gilliam of Paris, KY. Also surviving are his brother, Ray Turner; sisters, Yvonne (Farmer) Hoskins and Willa (Gary) Maiden of Harlan, and Betty (Monroe) Cornett of Hilton Head, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tracey Rice of Andersonville, TN, Rev Frank (Penny) Stewart, Sharon Stewart, and Bethel (Heather) Stewart all of Cawood, KY.
Visitation will be Friday, January 16, 2015 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Turner Cemetery, no public graveside services will be held.

Smith-Shirley Herron, 70 of Smith passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015 at the Harlan ARH.
Shirley was born April 3, 1944 in Smith, KY to the late Harold and Viola Taylor Green. She was a homemaker and member of Faith Holiness Church in Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Frank Herron; sister, Wanda Dillman of Smith; Niece, Tammy Dillman; nephew, Robert (Melinda) Dillman; great nieces, Jaylyn and Makenna Dillman all of Smith; sister-in-law, Faye (Rex) Hamlin and Dorothy Herron; uncle and aunts, Pearl & Clyde Taylor, Etta Eldridge, and Kathleen and Goldie Taylor; she leaves several other nieces and nephews, her church family, cousins, and friends to mourn her passing.
Visitation will be 5-8 Friday (Jan.23) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Saturday (Jan. 24) at the Faith Holiness Church, Smith with the Rev. Spencer Burkhart officiating.
Burial will follow in the Green Cemetery at Smith.

HARLAN - Shawn Corey Parker, 41, Lexington, KY, formerly of Harlan went to be with his Savior, Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the St. Joseph East Hospital, Lexington.
Shawn was a loving, devoted father, an avid tennis player and trained in jiu jitsu for over 20 years. He was a 1992 graduate of Harlan High School, he graduated from LMU in 1997 with Honors. Most recently, he enjoyed coaching his daughter's basketball teams. He loved a challenge, was so competitive and had a passion for helping others. He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church, Lexington, KY.
Shawn was preceded in death by his grandparents, Otis & Ethelene Parker, Herschel & Naomi Bargo, and his father, Gary Parker.
He is survived by his two loving daughters, Chase and Campbell, their mother, Beth Parker, all of Lexington. He is also survived by his mother, Bobbie Bargo Parker (Lexington), step-father, Greg Miles of (Eolia), a brother Travis Parker(Jennifer) and their children Cy and Isla, and sister Ashley Parker and daughter Bella (Lexington). He also had a host of extended family members and special friends.
Visitation will be held at Harlan Baptist Church, 102 W. Mound Street, Harlan, KY Friday, January 23, 6 - 8:00pm.
Funeral services will be held at Harlan Baptist Church, Saturday, January 24, 12:00 pm, with Rev. Arnold Martin officiating.
Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, KY.
Pallbearers will be Alfi & Sherif Guindi, Renzo Lopez, Brian Miniard, Bobby Smith, Tyrone Fitzgerald, Al Thomas, Tom Epperson, and Jimbo Collins.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Four Seasons MMA and his tennis club friends.

Georgetta (Williams) Simpson

HARLAN - Georgetta Williams Simpson of Harlan passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Harlan ARH.
She was the daughter of the late Billy G. and Treva Gross Williams.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd Simpson and her 3 children, Charslee, Charice, and Chesiree. Five grandchildren, Garyn Bender, Hayden Bender, Avan Middleton, Cidda-Lee Middleton, and Aaralyn Middleton; her sister, Sherwin Rader; 2 nieces, Tasia Rader and Celena Tulloss; and 1 great niece, Carrigan Tulloss also survive.
In keeping with her wishes cremation was chosen and a reception will be held at the family home (34 Slicky Ridge, Baxter, KY 40806) from 1-5:00 pm on Saturday (Jan. 24)
