Farmer Ray Hoskins

Farmer Ray Hoskins, 76 of Harlan, KY died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Middlesboro Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born in Bell County, Kentucky he was the son of the Late Robert and Cledith Hoskins. He was a retired driver for Hensley Trucking. He was a member of the Kelly Street Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Bill Hoskins and one sister, Kathleen Gambrel.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne Turner Hoskins of Harlan; children, Paul Ray (Nicole) Hoskins of Putney and Deborah Kay (Elgie) Hoskins Green of Harlan; grandchildren, Derrick (Alex) Hoskins of Putney, Nicholas Hoskins of Harlan, Kelly Beth Hoskins of Putney, Blair Green of Harlan, Blaine Green of Middlesboro; and brother, Archie Hoskins of Middlesboro.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 5:00-7:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will follow the visitation at 7:00 P.M. The Rev. Herbie Hoskins and Rev. Seth Carmical will officiate the services. Music will be provided by Seth Carmical. Interment will be private.

Roger Dale Allen

Roger Dale Allen, 68 of Cranks passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015 at the Harlan ARH.
Roger was born March 18, 1947 in Harlan, KY to the late Charles and Maybelle Roberts Allen. He was a retired coal miner of 30 years having retired from Ace Mining. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served his country during the Vietnam War.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Charlsie Helton and brother, Ronnie Allen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Napier Allen of Cranks; children, Charles (Stacy) Allen of Lexington; Tonia Allen of Nicholasville, KY; sisters, Anna Jo Bailey of Dalton, GA and Shirley Smith of Harlan, KY; grandchildren, Kiersten Hollon and Tristan Hollon of Nicholasville, KY. Special friends, Kyle Spurlock, Paul Wayne Garrett, and Harold Jones.
Visitation will be Saturday (Oct. 17) from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm with Bro. Ronnie Dale Shackleford officiating.
Burial will follow in the Napier Cemetery at Cranks, KY. Military rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

James Ewel Estes

Died: Sat., Oct. 17, 2015
James Ewel Estes, 65 of Harlan, Kentucky died Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital. He was born July 17, 1950 in Cleveland, Ohio son of the late Ed and Elsie Estes. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brother, Johnny Estes.
He believed in the Pentecostal faith and attended the Molus Pentecostal Church. He was a retired coal miner having worked at Benham Coal Company. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the VFW.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine Brock Estes of Harlan; sons, Shawn (Tiffany) Estes, Chris Estes, and Josh (Ashley) Estes all of Harlan; daughters, Kristy (William Phillips) Estes and Jaime (Jason Sullivan) Estes both of Harlan; step-brothers, Walter Miracle, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL and Joe E. Payne of London, KY; step-sisters, Joyce Smith and Shirley Sturgill both of Cumberland, KY; and a grandson he raised as his own, Shawn Estes of Harlan. Also surviving are ten grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, October 19, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home. Bishop Ronnie Williams will be officiating the services. Music will be provided by Jeremiah Stephens and Angie Williams.
Interment will follow the funeral in the Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins, KY. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Full Military honors will be provided by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Interment: Burial will follow in the Scott Family Cemetery on Lower Johns Creek.
Joe Harrison Scott, age 82, of Pikeville, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was a Master Welder. He traveled the country in his career as a welder. Also he was an avid outdoor person enjoying hunting and fishing. In addition to his activities, he enjoyed yard selling and going to flea markets.
He was born on Lower Johns Creek in Pike County Kentucky on August 29, 1928 the son of the late David R. and Anna Howard Scott.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, David Scott, Jr.
He is survived by two sisters, Beth Ratliff of LaGrange, Ky. and Ruth (John) Justice of Grantvill, Ga.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins and many loving and caring friends.
Dennie G Slusher

Dennie G. Slusher. 76 years. Beloved husband of 52 years to Shirley (nee Murphy) Slusher. Devoted father Donnamarie, Therese and Dennis. Loving brother of John Slusher. Dearest son of the late John and the late Linda (nee Brock) Slusher. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Friend to all who knew him.

Lorene Gentry, 88 of Harlan passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2015 at the Harlan ARH.
Lorene was born Nov. 24, 1926 at Threepoint, KY to the late Easom and Eva Minton Carr. She was a homemaker and believed in the Baptist Faith.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by 2 children, Charles “Butch” Gentry and Brenda Day; 2 brothers, Leo and Otto Carr.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Gentry of Harlan; her children, Margaret “Boots” (Bill, Sr.) Dean of Loyall, Jacquline Clayborn of Coldiron, Mike Gentry, Tony (Mary Lou) Gentry of Cranks, Linda (Daniel) Belcher of Stony Fork, Bill (Beverly) Gentry of Smith, Wanda Irvin of Crittenden, KY and Martha “Bitsy” Humpert, Kentucky; 1 brother, Roy Carr of Dayton, OH; she leaves 20 grandchildren, and a host of Great grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday (Oct. 26) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freeman Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the Park Howard Cemetery at Wallins with Grandsons serving as Pallbearers.
Visitation will be after 11:00 am Monday until the funeral hour at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Ronnie Miller, 62 of Ages passed away Thursday Oct. 29, 2015 at his home.
Ronnie was born March 2, 1953 at Kenvir, KY to the late Jeff and Ruby Overton Miller. He was a retired Insurance Agent and member of the Black Mountain Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife Gail Lyttle Miller of Ages; his brother, Larry (Patty) Miller of Cawood; nieces and nephew, Jeff Miller, Jennifer King, and Dezna Napier; in-laws, Ed (Hettie) Lyttle of Evarts and Cheryl (Andy) Vandergaw of Oregon; he leaves other nieces, nephews, and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 pm Monday (Nov. 2) in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Clem and Rev. Joe Howard officiating. Music will be by the Church Choir.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Tuesday (Nov. 3) at the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
Visitation will be Monday after 5:00 pm until the funeral hour at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
