Cecil Roberts
Born: Mon., Dec. 17, 1917
Died: Sun., Jan. 12, 2014

Cecil Roberts, 96, of Harlan, Kentucky died Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Saint Joseph Berea Hospital in Berea, Kentucky. He was a man of tremendous strength and wisdom. Born in Balkan, Kentucky he had lived most of his life in Harlan County. In 1985 he retired from the Harlan Post Office where he had served for 38 years. He served his county well in the U.S. Army in World War II.

He was happily married to his late wife Geneva Tackett Roberts for 70 years. He was the Son of the Late Andy and Bessie Roberts. Also preceding him in death are his siblings Alfred, Bill, Joe, Callie, Mary Etta, and Ann as well as his grandson Andy Adkins.

Surviving are daughters: Patricia Roberts Lawson of Fairfield, OH and Greta Roberts Adkins of Harlan, KY; grandchildren: Mike (Lora) Lawson, Bryan Lawson, Robert Lawson all of Ohio, Jake (Paula) Adkins, Amy Adkins (Ben) Ritter all of Richmond, KY, and Leslie (Steve) Adkins-Howard of Harlan, KY; and great grandchildren: Michael Lawson, Jerron Lawson, Trevin Lawson, Josh Lawson, Brady Adkins, Caleb Adkins, Tanner Lawson, Cooper Adkins, and Mackenzie Adkins. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held Friday, January 17 from 4:00-6:00 PM with the Funeral Service immediately following at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Interment will be Saturday, January 18 at 11:00 AM in the Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, Kentucky. The Harlan Honor Guard will provide military rites. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.

Brenda Sue (Farmer) Laws
Born: Sun., Sep. 27, 1942
Died: Sun., Jan. 12, 2014

Brenda Sue Laws, 71, of Kitts, KY went to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 12, 2014 after a long illness at the Harlan Appalachian Hospital. “Sue” was a lifelong resident of Harlan KY. She was married to Lee Laws on August 29, 1957. Sue was a wonderful & caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, John Farmer and Ruby Russell Farmer, 5 brothers and sisters, George L. Farmer, Mary Jane Farmer, Darlene White, Sonny Farmer and Lucy Long and a daughter Susan Marie Laws.

Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lee Laws. She is also survived by her 3 sons, Michael Laws and wife Cathy of Kitts, Mickey Laws of Kitts, and Dale Laws and wife Sally of Calvin, 5 grandchildren, Aaron Laws and wife Danielle, Amanda Laws and fiancée Josh Adams, Leanna Miller and husband Corey, Travis Laws and Catherine Laws, and 2 great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn Raeann Miller and Nelliel Sophitia Adams and a host of nieces, nephews, and family. She also leaves behind her nursing home family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 14, 2014 from 5pm till 8pm in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Josh Hensley, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY. Travis Laws, Corey Miller, Gary Laws, Bobby Muncy, and Eugene Douglas will serve as Pallbearers.

Anderson-Laws and Jones is honored to be serving Brenda’s Family.

Shirley (Katie) Katherine (Smith) Hicks
Born: Wed., Jan. 22, 1947
Died: Fri., Jan. 10, 2014

Shirley Katherine Smith Hicks, 66 of Gulston, KY went to be with the lord on January 10, 2014 following a long illness. She was the owner and operator of Baxter Automotive for 20 years. She was a member of Liggett Baptist church for many years. She was a volunteer at Hospice and of the Lady’s auxiliary gift shop at Harlan ARH.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hicks, Father, Bascom Smith, Mother, Margaret Bryant Smith, and sister, Wilma Sue Parsons.

She is survived by her son Joey (Elizabeth) Hubbs, Harlan, KY and daughter, Margaret (Matt) Stults of Winchester, KY, granddaughter Megan Stults, Winchester, KY, sister, Margie (Louie) Vaughn of Ashland, KY, and Brother Roger (Freda) Moore of Michigan, and special friend Beth Tompkins. She also leaves nieces and nephews and other relatives to mourn her death.

Visitation will be Monday January 13, 2014 from 5 until 7:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Howard officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. Raymond Smith.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Resthaven Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet just prior to the service at the cemetery chapel.

The family request memorials be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Mountain Heritage, PO Box 189, Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Mrs. Hicks.

Ida Mae (Hicks) Lewis
Born: Tue., Mar. 4, 1930
Died: Tue., Dec. 31, 2013

Ida Mae (Hicks) Lewis, 83 of Baxter, KY passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at the Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center. Ida was the wife of John C. Lewis for over 60 years, she was a member of the Loyall Church of God, and she had worked as a Clerk in the Harlan County Court Clerk Ruby Ader’s Office. She loved to garden and can vegetables and was devoted to her family, church and home. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

Preceding Ida in death were her parents: Jennie White Hicks and Hillard Hicks; one Brother: George W. Hicks; and one Son-In-Law: Dale W. Lewis.

In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by two Daughters: Hilda Susie Lewis and Rose (Darrell) Cohelia both of Harlan, KY; four Grandchildren: Stephen (Kathy) Lewis, Jennifer Lewis, Elizabeth Lewis, and Katharine Cohelia all of Harlan, Kentucky; four Great-Grandchildren: Taylor Horton, Sidney Horton, Jonathan Lewis and Jayce Young. Also surviving is one sister: Cora Ann Noe of Loyall, KY as well as several Nieces and Nephews. One special friend, Janice Cowser of Harlan will also mourn her passing.

Visitation will be Friday, January 3 from 12:00 until the funeral hour in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, January 3 at 1:00 in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Owens and Pastor James Forrester will officiate.

Interment will follow the funeral in the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, Kentucky. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Memory of Ida to the Church of God Home for Children in Sevierville, Tennessee they may be mailed c/o the Loyall Church of God, P.O. Box 356, Loyall, KY 40845.

Born: Sat., Sep. 8, 1923
Died: Sat., Dec. 28, 2013

Mrs. Billie B. Brown, 90 of Dayhoit passed away Saturday Dec. 28, 2013 at the home of her daughter in Corbin, KY.

All services was Private and Burial followed in the Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, KY.

George A. Clem
Born: Mon., Mar. 29, 1948
Died: Fri., Dec. 27, 2013

George A. Clem, 65 of Mary Alice, KY passed away Friday Dec. 27, 2013 at his home with family by his side.

George was born March 29, 1948 in Cawood, KY. He was a retired Coal Miner and member of the Gulston Church of God.

He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Louise Clem.

He is survived by his wife Mary Clem; children, George Elbert Clem of Harlan, Pamela and Angie both of Indiana, Amanda (Dale) Mullins of Dryden, VA; grandchildren, Leslie Napier, and Jonathan (Katie) Clem, Emily and Isaiah Scott; 1 great grandson, Simon Elbert Clem; 1 sister, Mary Ruth Hensley and special friend Roy Bailey of Harlan; niece, Trichina “KI” (Steve) Smith of Mary Alice; Step-daughter, Tracy Baker; step grand daughter, Victoria Baker; 3 special nephews, Daniel Miracle, Jayme Miracle, and Michael Townsend; special friend and neighbor, Bob (Judy) Rhea of Mary Alice and Glen Muncy of Elcomb..

Visitation will be Monday Dec. 20, 2013 from 5 until 7:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Craig, Sr. and Rev. John Lundy officiating.

Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Tuesday Dec. 31, 2013 at the Grays Knob Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery just prior to the service.

Jessie Faye (Fuston) Perkins Browning
Born: Wed., Mar. 24, 1943
Died: Fri., Nov. 13, 2015

Jessie Faye (Fuston) Perkins Browning, 72 of Cawood was born March 24, 1943 to the late Angeline and General Lee Fuston; she passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center after have a massive stroke the day before.

She attended the Loyall First Pentecostal Church; Jessie loved the Lord and attending church.

Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her son, Edward Perkins; 1st husband, Donald Perkins, 2nd husband, Homer Browning; special son-in-law, J.R. Mitchell; 4 sisters, Eula, Georgia, Virginia, and June; 1 brother, Norman (Bud) Fuston;

She is survived by 2 daughters, Donna (Bryant) Massingale of Cawood, Elizabeth Mitchell of Wallins; 5 sons Doyle (Georgina) Perkins of Cawood, Mike (Crystal) Perkins of Michigan, Tim Perkins of Georgia, Marvin (Lisa) Perkins of Georgia, and Darrell Perkins of Cawood; 3 step sons, Ron (Evelynn) Perkins of Barbourville, Don (Shirley) Perkins of Ohio, Bill (Judy) Collins of Middlesboro; 1 step daughter, Linda (Vernon) Cain of Barbourville; 18 grandkids, Christina, Andrew, Kayla, Jordan, Alexis, Zachery, Lara, Michael, Austin, Donavan, Avery, Tiffany, Brandi, Dustin, Tyler, Bethany, Rebecca, and Dalton; Great grandchildren, Weston, Gracie, and a very special great grandson, Brandon Ray; 1 brother, Bobby (Edith) Fuston of Pineville; 2 sisters, Carolyn (Paul) Asher of Pineville, Margaret Fuston of Harrogate, TN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, step grandkids and other extended family.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday (Nov. 18) at the Loyall First Pentecostal Church with Pastors Bryant Massingale, Bill Gibson, and Kelly Partin, Jr officiating.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY with Family and friends serving as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be Tuesday (Nov. 17) from 6 until 9 at the Loyall First Pentecostal Church.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
