EPPERSON

Freddy Ray Epperson, 60, of Riceville, TN, formerly of Harlan County, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at the Athens Regional Medical. Center in Athens, TN. Born March 5, 1953 in Loyall, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He worked as a truck driver and believed in the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Epperson and Ruth Walden Epperson; and two brothers, George Thomas Epperson and Paul Epperson.

Freddy is survived by his wife, Ardy Zander-Epperson, Riceville, TN; seven brothers, Virgil Epperson and wife Viola, King George, VA; James Epperson, Wallins; Clarence Epperson and wife Sharon, Baxter; Johnny Epperson, Riceville, TN; Oscar Epperson and wife Deborah, Baxter; William Epperson and wife Marsha, Loyall; and Richard Epperson and wife Edith, London; two sisters, Lois Howard, Knoxville, TN and Mary Rodriguez and husband Rick, Tijeras, NM.

Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at the New Era Ministries located on Hwy. 840 with funeral services following at 7 p.m. with the Reverend Ronnie Williams officiating.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Cemetery.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Military Rites will be preformed by the Harlan Honor Guard at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donation are suggested to the COPD Foundation or Disabled American Veterans @ COPD Foundation.org/DAV.org.

Loyall Funeral Home is in charge of his arrangements.

SMITH

Erma Mae Lewis Smith, age 83, passed away June 16, 2013 after a long illness. She was born September 06, 1929 to the late Wilmer and Myrtle Lewis of Totz, Kentucky. She was the widow of John L. Smith of Floyd County, Kentucky. They had resided in Totz, Kentucky, Lynch, Kentucky, Norris Lake, Tennessee and the latter in Knoxville, Tennessee.

She is survived by one brother, Charles Lewis, of Totz, KY; a daughter, Joyce Ann Williamson of Totz, ; a son, Terry W. Smith and his wife, Mary, of Totz, and a daughter, Brenda G. Sizemore and her husband Bobby of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Grandchildren include: Christopher and Rebekah Williamson and their two children of Lawrence, Kansas; Brandon Williamson and his wife Andrea and their 3 children of Ecuador, South America; Tara Lynn Smith of Totz, KY; Bobby J. Sizemore and his wife Carrie and their two children of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; Tiffany Ann Johnson and her husband Derrick and their three children of Versailles, Kentucky; and Bradley W. Sizemore and his wife Tiffany and their two children of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 19 from 5 to 8 PM at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home in Harlan, Kentucky. Graveside service is to be on Thursday, June 20 at 1:30 PM at the Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee.

DAVIDSON

James Allen Davidson, 59, of Calhoun, GA., passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born on April 13, 1954 to the late James and Wanda Pennington Davidson. He was a US Army Veteran, a fork lift operator, and believed in the Baptist faith.

James is survived by his wife, Tammy Gilliam Davidson, of Calhoun, GA; three children, Wesley Davidson and wife Nancy of Baxter, KY; Joshua Davidson and wife Kristen of Calhoun, GA; and Matthew Davidson also of Calhoun, GA; two brothers, Wayne and Billy Barker, two sisters Debbie McKnight, and Christine Helton, his mother and father-in-law Otis and Doris Gilliam, and his grandson Noah. And a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Hurricane Gap Baptist Church in Gordon after 4 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 am at the church. Following the funeral services burial will be held at the Ed Bradley Cemetery. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

BURKHART

Patsy Ann Burkhart, 61 of Loyall, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at the Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, TN. Born November 30, 1951 in New York City, she was a homemaker and believed in the Pentecostal faith. In support of her husband, Patsy had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clark (Whity) Burkhart; and her mother, Martha Brock Davis.

Patsy is survived by her father, Kendall Davis; two daughters, Melissa Gibson and husband Rainer, La Fayette, GA., and Shonda Brown, Loyall; one brother, Robert Reid and wife Barbara, Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Vicky King and husband Lee, Jacksonville, FL., and Sheila Williams and husband Terry, Coldiron, KY; five grandchildren, Kenneth Gibson, Christopher Brown, Jacob Brown, Matthew Brown and Jayce Brown; and one great-grandchild, Brayden Gibson. Also surviving are four nieces and two nephews and a host of very special friends.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. from Friday in the chapel of Loyall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday, June 15, 2013, in the chapel of Loyall Funeral Home with the Reverend Eddie Houston officiating.

Burial will follow in Resthaven Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Scott Reid, Kenneth Gibson, Choena Slone, Jr., Roger Gibson, Samuel Gibson and Andrew Hensley. Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Brown, Jacob Brown, Matthew Brown and Jayce Brown.

CREECH

George Creech, 61, of Cumberland, KY., passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at his home. He was born December 18, 1952 to the late Jude and Laura Kelly Creech. He was a US Navy Veteran, a former coal miner and meat packer, and believed in the Protestant Faith.

He is survived by his brothers Eddie Creech and wife Cathy of Benham, KY; and Carlos Creech and wife Janet of Richmond, VA; and his sister Carolyn Gray and husband Larry of Benham, KY and a host of other family and friends.

There will be no visitation or funeral services. At his request he will be cremated.

Tri City Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

NAPIER

Kara Jo Smith Napier, 28, of Dartmont, passed away Friday, June 7, 2013, at her home. Born July 12, 1984 in Lexington, she was a graduate of Evarts High School where she had been a cheerleader.

Kara Jo was preceded in death by her mother, Beverly Burkhart Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Shawn Justin Napier, Dartmont; two children, Kirsten and Rylee Napier, Dartmont; her father, Harold Smith, Barbourville; two brothers, Brian Smith, Barbourville; Harold Smith, Jr. and wife, Edna, Russell Springs; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary and David Napier, Evarts; four aunts, Louise Burkhart, Trudy Goddard, Lana Risner and Joyce Amburgey; four uncles, Johnny Smith, Roger Smith, Jeff Burkhart and Marty Burkhart; and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 14, 2013, at 2 pm in the Chapel of the Evarts Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Evarts Funeral Home is in charge of her arrangements.

CORNETT

Ruth Parsons Cornett, 91 of Coalgood, died Saturday evening at her home after a long illness. She was born November 6, 1921 to the late Ballard and Bartie Parsons. Ruth was a home maker and worked for several years at the Turtle Creek Grocery in Lenarue. She was a member of the Mary Helen Methodist Church for 65 years and a wonderful loving mother and grandmother.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Less Cornett; her brothers, Paul B. Parsons SR, Bill Parsons, and Jack Parsons; her daughters, Bobbie Cornett, April Parsons Forester and her daughter-in-law, Thelma Cornett.

She is survived by: two loving daughters, Jeanette Cornett of Lenarue and Brenda and husband, Sam Foster of Danville, KY; two loving sons, Jack Cornett of Dalton, GA and Lynwood Parsons of Danville, Kentucky. Four granddaughters, Robin Foster of Danville, KY, Kellie Foster of Lexington, KY, Courtney Forester of Harlan and Taylor Parsons of Danville, KY. She also leaves two nephews, Paul Parsons JR and wife, Donna of Jacksonville, FL and Bill and wife, Ginger Parsons of Harlan. And a host of nieces and nephews to mourn her passing.

A very special thank you to her care givers, Alma Hardy, Gloria Southerland, Evelyn and Clinton Posey. Thanks to her Physician, DR. Shelia Ahmad and her wonderful staff. Also the staff of Cumberland Valley Home Health for their loving care. Also, thank you to her neighbors in Lenarue for their prayers and help over the years.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 at Henson & Rich Funeral Home with Funeral services at 8 o’clock with Rev. Robert Landis officiating.

Burial services will be Wednesday at 11AM at Resthaven Cemetery Chapel. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 AM to proceed to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Randy Brock, Michael Landis, Clinton Posey, Beckham Southerland, Paul Mark Spurlock and Greg Coldiron.

PENNINGTON

Tia (Timi) Renee Taylor Pennington, 24, of Harlan, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at her home.

Tia was born February 21, 1989 in Harlan, KY and was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lee Roy Taylor and Estill Clark Jr.; one Uncle, Tilman Ray Taylor.

She is survived by her husband Jeffrey Pennington of Harlan; three step children, Ashley, Brittany and Jeffery; her father Mark (Lisa) Taylor of Wallins, KY and her mother Kimberly (David) Knight of Birmingham, AL; one brother, Mark Eugene (Kelli) Taylor of Dawson Springs, KY; two step sisters Nicole Burns and Melinda Wilson; one step brother, Dave Knight; one nephew Gabriel Taylor; Grandmother Nancy Lou Estes and Sharon Clark. She leaves other aunts, uncles other relatives to mourn her passing.

Visitation will be Thursday June 6, 2013 from 6 until 9 pm at the Pathfork Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be 12:00 pm Friday June 7, 2013 at the church with the Reverends Everett Eads, Robert Lee and J.C. Craig officiating.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery with friends and family serving as pallbearers.
