Gary Martin
Gary Lynn Martin, 65, of the Wildcat Valley, passed away on Wednesday (May 30, 2012) at his home.
He was born in Harlan County, KY and lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap.
The funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Melvin Eads and the Rev. Don Childress officiating.
Military graveside rites, by the local V.F.W. and D.A.V. posts and the Virginia National Guard Honors Team, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the American Legion Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 1:30 p.m. on Sunday to go in procession.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Nora Hensley
Nora Lee Hensley, age 80 of Bledsoe, KY passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in Lexington, KY. She was born January 20, 1932 to the late Chester and Catherine (Morgan) Ward in Verda, KY. Nora was a homemaker and believed in the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert W. Hensley; one child, Martha Hensley; and one brother, Johnny Ward.
Survivors include her children, McArthur Hensley, Norlan Belcher, Stanley Hensley all of Bledsoe, KY and Ruth Neff and husband Larry of Pineville, KY; brothers, Eugene Ward, Ernest Ward, Ray Ward all of London, KY and Virgil Ward of Wallins, KY; sisters, Jessie Mae Walker of Virginia and Rosa Lee Elright of Georgia; 7 grandchildren, Arthur William Hensley, Andrew Jacky Hensley, Lyndsey Hensley, Dwight Wilson, Samantha Barton, Phillip Wilson, Jr., and Robert Wilson; and 8 great grandchildren. Several other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home with the Rev. Keith Coldiron and Rev. Herschel Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Ellis Cemetery in Bledsoe, KY with grandsons and friends serving as pallbearers.

Thelma Gross
Thelma Vermillion Gross, passed away May 28, 2012 In Nashville, Tennessee after a decline in health.
She was “ TaTa” and “Aunt Thelma” to family and nicknamed “Gross” by friends.
Thelma was born on April 12, 1920 in Hazard, KY, the thirteenth of thirteen children. Her parents were Schuyler C. Vermillion, known as “Doug, ” and Elizabeth Caldwell Vermillion. She graduated from high school in Tribbey, KY and went to business college in Lexington, KY. She married
Lt. Gullion Evans Gross from Lynch, KY, on July 20, 1943, during WWII. Lt. Gross was discharged in July, 1946, and they made their home in Cumberland, KY.
Thelma started working as the secretary at Cumberland High School around 1950. They had two daughters, Carole and Jamie. Thelma was a member of the Cumberland Baptist Church, she was in a bridge club, and belonged to the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. Most of all, she loved Cumberland High School. Gullion died in 1981 and Thelma retired a few years later. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee around 1993 to be close to her daughters. She was living at Morningside of Belmont and until recent medical problems she enjoyed a full life surrounded by her family. Everyone will remember her bright smile and her happy outlook.
Thelma is survived by her daughter, Carole Gross Begley, son-in-law Ron Begley, grandsons Colin Begley and Brett Begley; her daughter, Dr. Jamie Gross, son-in-law Russell Nunnally, and daughter Schuyler Nunnally, of Nashville, Tennessee.
To honor and celebrate her life, Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, June 2, from 10-11 am, at the Cumberland Valley Funeral Home in Cumberland, KY with Dennis Williams officiating. Immediately following the services, burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, Kentucky.

Rose Marie Crider 56, of Baxter, Ky. passed away Fri. May 24, 2012 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Rose was a homemaker. Loving mother and believed in the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Imogene Vanover Horvat & Henry Johnson Jr.

Tiffany McMillion of Harlan, Ky. 6 Grandchildren; Crystal Eubanks, Ashley Richards, Danielle Richards, Devon Richards, Gabby Richards & Tyler Adams. 3 Brothers; Chester Johnson of Coldiron, Ky. Henry Johnson of Harlan, Ky. Bobby Cheyenne Freeman of South Carolina. 1 half-brother; Bobby Freeman Hamilton, OH. 7 Sisters; Linda Black of Cinn. OH. Sharon Morrison of Hamilton, OH. Visitation will be Wed. May 30, 2012 from 11-AM to 2-PM in the chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home.

Kenneth Jackson
Kenneth Jackson, age 63 of Cawood, KY passed away on Friday, May 26, 2012 at his residence. He was born February 9, 1949 to the late William and Octavia Jackson. He was a retired coal miner and believed in the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Pamela Jackson; his son, Kenneth Ray North; and two sisters, Mary Sue Dean and Betty Gale Jackson.
Survivors include one daughter, Melanie Brown of Gate City, VA; step-children, Ray Jackson and wife Roxie of Wallins, KY and Wendy Felker and husband Paul of Wallins, KY; two grandchildren, Micah and Kaylan Brown, Kendra and Keely North; step-grandchildren, Cody and Tyler Maggard, Scotty Williams, Jessica, Zachary, Rhianna and Madison Jackson Christopher Galanti, and Haley and Laura Felker; brothers, William Jackson, Jr. of Corbin, KY, Ernie Jackson of Grays Knob, KY, and Raymond Jackson of Baxter, KY; several other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Kathleen Collins
Kathleen Collins, age 82, of Cumberland departed this life on Saturday, May 26, 2012, at the Harlan ARH Hospital. She was born in Cumberland on December 07, 1929 to the late Frank and Mattie Hall Dixon. Kathleen was a member of the Gilliam Chapel Church and had worked for the Kentucky Division of Forestry.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Collins; son, Ernest D. Collins; brothers, Arthur Dixon, Rev. Paul Ed Dixon, and John Dixon; sisters, Mabel Bledsoe and Elizabeth Foutch.
Kathleen leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mariannena Smith and husband, James, of Cumberland; grandson, Darrell J. Smith; great grandchildren, Noel Moody, Sadie Moody, Caleb Smith, Yvonne Smith and Seth Smith; and host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home on Thursday, May 31, 2012, between 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held for Kathleen on Friday, June 01, 2012 at 1 pm in the chapel with the Reverend John Monhollen and Reverend Jonathan Monhollen officiating. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Acres Cemetery at Hiram.
John Dixon, Bob Shields, Henry Hughes, Eric Smith, Merrill Galloway, and Aaron Hodges will serve as pallbearers.

Betty L. Dorsett
Betty L. Dorsett, age 78 of Albion passed away Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in 1934 to Gaylord and Arnona Ulrich in Toledo, Ohio. In 1954 she married
William E. Dorsett who preceded her in death January 10, 2009.
Betty was an assistant manager for Big Boy in Albion for 33 years. She was a great homemaker, loving mother and hardworking, she loved spring time, her companion Dolly. She was loved by many people
Betty is survived by: Daughters- Deborah L. Taylor, Rhonda J. Smith, Cynthia Dorsett and Julia L. Dorestt-Riske.
According to her wishes, Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or services at this time.
