Robert Brock
Robert Michael (Mike) Brock died Thursday May 24, 2012 at his home in Lexington, KY. A memorial service will be held Wednesday May 30, 2012 at Anderson- Laws & Jones Funeral Home, Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until the time of the memorial service.
Mike was born December 7, 1944 in Mary Helen, KY, the son of Reid and Faye Brock. He was Harlan High School alumni, and a 1969 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, where he was active in his fraternity Beta Omicron Chi (later Sigma Chi). Mike spent his 40-year career entirely in the pharmaceuticals industry, beginning in sales in the early 1970s, and progressing to Government Affairs for both Parke-Davis (Pfizer) and Purdue Pharma, where he will be remembered for successfully lobbying many bills, creating initiatives to the benefit of the states he represented, and making lifelong friends with many colleagues along the way.
In his retirement, Mike enjoyed traveling and playing golf with his friends and wife, and had recently relocated from Georgia back to Kentucky to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn; his children Neil (Wendy); Amy (Ted O’Connor); grandchildren Caleb and Rachel; brothers Randy (Terri) and Rick (Cindy); brother-in-law Bucky Thomas (Rosalyn); and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations made in Mike’s name go to Mary Helen United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Bluegrass, or Sharp Methodist Church (Young Harris, GA).

Elizabeth Whitehead
Elizabeth Susan Whitehead, 51, of Lexington, KY passed on to be with her Lord on Saturday May 26, 2012 at the St. Joseph Hospital. She was the daughter of Vera Stanton Whitehead and the late Harry W. Whitehead Sr. graduating from Ashland Community College and obtaining her registered nurses certificate to work as a critical care nurse for nearly 25 years. Liz also dedicated herself to God’s work by offering testimony through song under the label of “Child of the King” touring church’s nationwide. Elizabeth is survived by her mother Vera, brothers Harry Jr. and Charles Sr. Whitehead, nieces and nephews Shawn, Lindsay, Johnson, Charles Jr., Lynn and Ainsley; Aunt’s and Uncle’s close to Elizabeth include Georgia Zuckerman, Ruth Janes and Sam Stanton with many more too numerous to mention but equally important to Liz. The family will always remember and dearly miss Elizabeth. Visitation will be Monday May 28, 2012 from 6 until 8:00 pm at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

FORESTER
William R. Forester, age 85, of Lexington, Ky., passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Friday, May 3, 2013.
Bill was born March 9, 1928, in Harlan, Ky., to Taylor and Della Forester. He was a graduate of Harlan Independent Schools, the University of Kentucky and the University of Kentucky College of Law. He spent 33 years in the practice of law, predominately in Harlan, and was an active member of the Harlan County Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was a former co-owner of Anderson - Laws Funeral Home in Harlan. Bill was also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and served his country for four years during the Korean Conflict.
William Forester was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Taylor Forester and Della Hudson Forester, and two brothers, Ralph Forester and Hiram Jones, Jr. He is survived by his wife, Carol Tinney Forester of Lexington, his son, Bill Forester, Jr., of Hollywood, FL, his daughter, Regan Forester of Houston, TX, a sister, Jackie Forester Alloway of Lexington, a brother, Jerry Forester (Mary Ann) of Corbin, a sister-in-law, Waun Forester, of Harlan, nieces, nephews and many friends.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of William R. Forester will be held at 11am Monday, May 6, 2013 at Church of the Good Shepherd, 533 East Main St., Lexington, KY.
Memorials may be made, in honor of Bill, to the University of Kentucky College of Law.

CORNETT
Acey Cornett, Jr., age 59, of Teetersville, KY passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. He was born November 15, 1953 in Harlan, KY to Acey Cornett, Sr. and Opal Louise Johnson Cornett. He was retired from the Harlan County Board of Education after spending 30 years teaching and being a principal. He was a deacon and a youth group director/leader with the Teetersville Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his father, Acey Cornett, Sr., his wife, Doris Campbell Cornett, daughter, Melissa Cornett Luttrell, and sister, Sharon Kay Cornett.
He is survived by his children: John Cornett of Lexington, KY, and Bridgett Gambrel and husband, Shane, of Harlan, KY, grandchildren: Madison Cornett, Destini Cornett, Ben Gambrel, and Luke Luttrell of Harlan, KY, mother, Opal Cornett, sisters: Pat Burgan, Tammy Hubbs and husband, Gary, of Harlan, KY, Kim Thomas and husband, Bill, of London, KY, Rachel Goodwin of Olmstead, KY, and Hope Bowling and husband, Doug, and many other very special family members and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 5 to 9PM at the Teetersville Baptist Church, Teetersville, KY. Funeral will be at 1PM Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Teetersville Baptist Church with the Reverends Donnie Adkisson and Billy Howell officiating. Burial will follow at the Resthaven Cemetery. ESTEP
David R. Estep, age 60, of Cumberland, KY passed away on Wednesday, May 01, 2013, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Healthcare. He was born May 05, 1952 in Cumberland to Oakie Eversole Estep and the late Jess Estep. David worked 27 years as a coal miner before retiring with Blue Diamond Coal Company. He served in the United States Army and believed in the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a brother, Randy Estep.
He is survived by his mother, Oakie Estep of Cumberland; children, Roger Estep of Yeaddiss, KY, Melissa Estep of Cumberland, and Gordon David Estep, Jr. of Muhlenberg, KY; brother, Eddie Estep of Cumberland; sisters, Evon Adams of Cumberland, Nancy Pennington of Bryantsville, KY, Wanda (Gary) Osborne of Loyall, Ruby Estep, Betty (Michael) Halcomb of Cumberland; grandchildren, Cody Estep, Katelyn Estep, Jessie Hamilton, Thomas Hamilton, and Chasity Hamilton; ex-wife, Betty Estep; and a host of other family and friends.
The family will receive friends in the Chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home in Benham, KY on Friday, May 03, 2013, between the hours of 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 04, 2013, in the chapel at 2 pm with the Reverends Billy Conn and Wayne Schroeder. Interment will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery in Cumberland, KY with military rites at graveside.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Osborne, Jessie Hamilton, Thomas Hamilton, Roger Estep, Gordon Estep, and Cody Estep.

FARMER
Charles David Farmer, 65 of Watts Creek went to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Harlan ARH with his wife and family at his side.
David was born February 1, 1948 in Harlan, KY to the late Tip and Glinice Farmer. He was a retired coal miner with over 35 years of service. He was last employed by Black Mountain Resources, before becoming disabled.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Betty Franks, and nephew Jerald Warf.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Jeanette Farmer, sons, Jonathan (Deanna) Farmer and Scott (Linda) Farmer all of Watts Creek; 2 special grand daughters, Shelbee Leigh-Ann and Haelyn Rebekah Farmer, grandsons, Charles Scott and Matthew Aaron Farmer, twin granddaughters, Abigail Grace and Emma Alene Farmer; his brothers, Tip (Linda) Farmer of San Antonio, TX and Frank Farmer of Rio Vista; he leaves several nieces, nephews other relatives, and many friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be Thursday May 2, 2013 from 5 until 8:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Friday May 3, 2013 in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones with Rev. Jeff Craig officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, KY. with military honors being provided by the Harlan Honor Guard.

SERGENT
Minton Vernon Sergent, 61, passed to his heavenly reward Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Whitesburg Appalachian Regional Hospital in Whitesburg, Kentucky.
Vernon was born March 20, 1952 and grew up in Totz, but spent most of his life in Cumberland, Kentucky. He served his country as a United States Marine in the 3rd Platoon, BCO 1st ITR in Paris Island, South Carolina. He was a retired coal miner having worked 32 years for US Steel and Arch of Kentucky He loved his Lord and was a devoted to his church. He was a member of the Bill Moore Branch Holiness Church.
Vernon is survived by his loving wife, Jewell Morris Sergent. Mother, Bernice “Johnnie” Dixon Sergent. Eight children; Vernon, Jr (Summer), Stacey (Adam) Moore, Nicholas (Mary), and Robyn (Brent) Cochran of Georgia; Robby of California, Ryan, Bryan (Belinda), and Joey of Cumberland. Grandchildren, Ivie, Hannah, Breanna, Azlynn, Chloee, Briley, Annabelle Sergent and Blake and Aden Cochra. Four brothers, Ira (Ernestine), Charles “Hyde”, Virgil (Adah), and David (Kathy).
Also surviving are a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Vernon is preceded in death by his father, Owen Sergent. Granddaughter, Abigail Sergent.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May, 2013 at Bill Moore Branch Holiness Church in Kona, KY with Larry Hensley, Mick Sergen, Wendell Bated and Mike Ho officiated. Burial will be in Bill Moore Branch Cemetery

JONES
Lucy Mae Jones, 78, of Baxter, KY, died at her home this past week. She was born in June 27, 1934 in Stanford, KY.
A graveside service was given on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Olive Cemetery in Waynesburg, KY.
WINSTEAD
James Winstead, 86, of Louisville, Ky., born April 28, 1927, in Mount Vernon, Ky., passed away Monday afternoon at his home after a long illness.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was an MP. He was a retired machinist from General Electric.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pauline; two sons, Phillip Mark and Kenzie; one granddaughter, Jennifer Whobrey (Kenneth Sr. ); and two great-grandsons, Kenneth Whobrey Jr., and Kobe Whobrey; five sisters, Elta Zimmerman of Spotsylvania, Va., Verda Spicer of Georgetown, Ind., Barbara Mefford (Sylvester) of Seaman, OH, Wanda Amann (Glenn) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Georgia Kelly of Closplint, Ky.; three brothers, Verlon Winstead (Adriana) of Louisville, Wayne Winstead (Rose) of Amelia, Ohio, and Harold Winstead (Barbara) of Cub Run, Ky., and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kinzie and Lizzie Winstead, both of Closplint, Ky., brother, Foxie Lee Winstead and sister, Helen Wilson of Chicago, Ill.
Visitation will be held at Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Avenue, Thursday 2-8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon, at the funeral home, with Rev. Sharon Spicer officiating. The burial will follow at Edwardsville Cemetery in Georgetown, Ind.
