Sheila G. Caplinger

MOREHEAD - Sheila G. Caplinger, 43, of Fairborn, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born June 5, 1963, she was the daughter of the late Chester Ray and Wilma Reynolds Adkins.

Interment was conducted Saturday, January 6, 2007, at the Reynolds Family Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky with Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in charge of arrangements.

Arnold Lee Hamm
1941-2007

MOREHEAD - Arnold Lee Hamm, age 65, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Rowan County, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007, in Myrtle Beach. Born June 21, 1941, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Oscar Levi Weldon Hamm and Darcus Virginia McKenzie Hamm. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a half sister, Dorothy Vanlandingham.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Robbins Hamm; two sons; William Arnold Hamm of Nanuet, New York, and Robert Edward Hamm of Matthews, North Carolina; one daughter, Colleen Ann Stringer of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; four brothers, Charles Hamm and David Hamm, both of Morehead, Kentucky, Howard Hamm of New Paris, Ohio, and Oscar Hamm, Jr. of Nicholasville, Kentucky; five sisters, Eula Crisp, Beulah Holbrook, Betty Day, Geneva Hamm, and Lynda Bates, all of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Hamm served in the U.S. Navy and was a former employee of Coca Cola in Mt. Sterling and Chem-Dry in Myrtle Beach.

Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Evangelist Joe Fraley officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Frances Featherston Lipps

LEXINGTON - Frances Featherston Lipps, 92, Lexington, widow of Evert Conley Lipps, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Terah and Louella Stephenson Featherston. She was retired from Bluegrass Army Depot and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors are a son, Lee (Carolyn) Lipps; a daughter, Betty Ann (George) Tapp, both of Morehead; and six grandchildren, Roy Michael (Delora) Tapp, Winchester; Amanda Jean Cain, Venice, Fla.; David Austin (Patty) Tapp, Somerset; George Evertt (Wy Ann) Lipps, Sedelia, Mo.; Laryn Ann Tapp, Lexington; and Elizabeth Ann (David) Gesell, Venice, Fla.

She also has seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Hugh Featherston.

Funeral services were Saturday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main Street.

Billy Joe Murray
Age: 64
Visitation: Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6pm, Wednesday.
Funeral Service: Funeral Services will be 11:00a.m., Friday, August 24, 2007 at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Crawford officiating
Interment: Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Shelbiana.

Billy Joe Murray, age 64, of Pikeville, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

He was a disabled glasser with Elliott Glass.

He was born in Johnson County, Kentucky on May 15, 1943 the son of the late George and Mamie Clay Murray.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Sue Howard Murray and one son, Shane Murray and his wife, Carrie of Pikeville and one daughter, Cindy Burgess and her husband, Tony of Stanville.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Paige Burgess, Travis Burgess and Cheyenne Murray.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Travis Burgess, Tony Burgess, Curt Howard, Phil Bowersock, Everett Murray and Ronnie Howard.

Tinnia V. Markwell
1917-2007

MOREHEAD - Tinnia V. Markwell, age 89, of Milford, Ohio, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007, at the Clermont Mercy Hospital in Batavia, Ohio. Born December 17, 1917, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Florence Bradshaw Knipp. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hinton Markwell, in 1999; four brothers, Allen Knipp, Arthur Knipp, George Knipp, and Cecil Knipp; and five sisters, Sarah Caudill, Ada Black, Gladys Estes, and two infant sisters.

Mrs. Markwell is survived by three sisters, Mary Alice Roseberry of Milford, Ohio, Opal Patrick of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Florence Pick of Buckeye Lake, Ohio and a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was a homemaker and long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Markwell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Milford, Ohio.

Funeral services were conducted 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2007, at Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial was in the Eldridge Cemetery on Bullfork Road. Nephews served as pallbearers. Visitation was Saturday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Cleo Ray Burgess
Age: 77
Visitation: Visitation in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6p.m., Wednesday, with evening services at 7pm on Thursday evening.
Funeral Service: Funeral services 2:00pm, Friday, August 24, 2007 at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Eddie Overstreet and the Owsley Freewill Baptist Church officiating
Interment: Burial will follow in the Salisbury and Ray Cemetery on Dog Fork Road of Hurricane Creek.

Cleo Ray Burgess, age 77, of Pikeville, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007.

She was a retired Sales Clerk and Mail Carrier. She was a member of the Owsley Freewill Baptist Church.

She was born in Pike County, Kentucky on November 4, 1929 the daughter of the late Will and Susie Salisbury Ray.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lee Burgess on December 1, 2004 and by one sister, Ethel Mims and two brothers, Carl Ray and Palmer Ray and one grandchild, Pamela Goble Charles.

She is survived by one son, Henry Lee Burgess and his wife, Tammy of Pikeville and seven daughters, Susan Adkins of Pikeville, Judith Goble and her husband, Gordon of Pikeville, Verniece Overstreet and her husband, Eddie of Pikeville, Lola Weddington and her husband, D.R. of Pikeville, Georgene Robertson and her husband, Jackie of Pikeville, Zella Mae Mullins and her husband, Rick of Berea and Sherlene Burgess of Pikeville.

16 Grandchildren, Beverly Stip, Gregory Adkins, Jessica Goble, Gordon Lee Goble Jr., Larry Ratliff Jr., Amy Blackburn, James Weddington, Stephanie Weddington, Edward Lee Burgess, William Dale Burgess, Chance Robertson, Zachary Robertson, Kaitlin Nickell, Samuel Mullins, Joshua Luke Mullins and Victoria Mullins.

8 Great-Grandchildren, James David Stipe, Gregory Adkins, Elizabeth Adkins, Kaine Presley Goble, Terra Brooke Slone, Larry Nelse Ratliff III, Sara Blackburn and Zachary Burges.

Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Greg Adkins, Gregory Adkins Jr., Larry Ratliff Jr., James Weddington, Gordon Lee Goble Jr., Chance Robertson, Edward Lee Burgess Jr., William Dale Burgess, James David Stipe and Zachary Robertson.

Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be: Danny Mullins, Arvid Burgess, Bobby Justice, Elbert Compton, Samuel Mullins, Joshua Mullins, Richard Stipe and Kaine Goble.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Ky. 40502

Novella Roxan Sargent Perry
1925-2007

MOREHEAD - Novella Roxan Sargent Perry, age 81, of Blairs Mill, Kentucky, formerly of Taylor, Michigan, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. She was born May 22, 1925, in Morgan County, Kentucky, to the late James Nelson and Nanny Collins Roberts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Wayne Sargent and Charles Perry; three brothers, Virgil Swim, Clifton Roberts, and Donald Roberts; and two sons, Gary Lee Sargent and James Dorton (J. D.) Sargent.

Survivors include her children Linda Easterling of Brownstown, Michigan, Irma and Leon Perry of West Liberty, Dewayne and Teresa Sargent of Dunlap, Tennessee, Ray Sargent of Wyandotte, Michigan, Tony and Donna Sargent of Morgan County, Gail and Mike Perry of Morehead, Mark Perry of Morgan County, Mary and John Minton of Fort McCoy, Florida, Roxan and Leon Rigsby of Menifee County, Johnny and Brenda Perry of West Liberty; one brother, Grenvil Roberts of Xenia, Ohio; one sister, Ruby Easterling of West Liberty, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Perry was a homemaker and beloved mother, grandmother, wife, and sister. She was of the Baptist Faith.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating; burial was in the Day Cemetery in Morgan County. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Roberta J. Sandefur
Age: 89
Visitation: Visitaion will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6pm, Thursday with special singing services Friday evening at 7p.m.
Funeral Service: Funeral services will be 2:00p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2007 at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Scott Wiest officiating
Interment: Burial will follow in the Mt. View Memory Gardens at Huddy, Ky

Roberta J. Sandefur, age 89 of Pikeville and formerly of Sidney, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was a former 1st grade teacher at Forest Hills. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville.

She was born in Williamson, West Virginia on June 14, 1918 the daughter of the late James L. and Henrietta Pauley Sandefur.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers, Robert S. Sandefur, James L. Sandefur Jr., Melville Sandefur, Henry Sandefur, Grayson Clayton, Carmen Sandefur and Winifred Sandefur and two sisters, Susie M. Varney and Virginia Elouise Stratton.

She is survived by one sister, Ruby Mozis Gillett of Hopkins, MN and a host of nieces and nephews and also by her caregivers, Ralph W.E. Varney, Jr. and Gladys "Bunny" Ashby.

Serving as Active Pallbearers will be: Emerson Varney, Robert Sandefur Jr., James L. Sandefur III, James Verlyn Sandefur, Clifford Edgar Sandefur, James Barry Sandefur, Ronnie Sandefur, Larry Varney, Jack Varney and Frank Mozis.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville, 508 Cedar Creek Road, Pikeville, Ky.
