Tom Powers
1926-2006

STANFORD – Tom Powers, 80, of Stanford, died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006 at Ft. Logan Hospital. He was born March 3, 1926 at Morehead to the late J.H. and Janie Harrison Powers.

He was a retired manager at Builders Supply in Stanford after 25 years, a member and elder of the Stanford Christian Church, an Army veteran of World War II, member of the Caswell Saufley Post 18 honor guard and 50-year Mason with Lodge 60 in Stanford. He was a member of the Lions Club, a Kentucky Colonel, worked with the little league program and Lions Club for 50 years, served on the water board in Stanford for 14 years, served on the Ft. Logan Hospital board for 25 years, was a past volunteer with the Stanford Fire Department and was the 2001 chamber of commerce Citizen of the Year.

Survivors include his wife, Viola “Vi” Kissick Powers; one son, Dr. Michael Powers of Bowling Green; three daughters, Janey Stotts of Cave City, Toni Jackson of Stanford and Tori Moore of Clinton, Ill.; one sister, Ernestine Drummond of Rome, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, Kayce Osbourne, Ashley Stotts, Jennifer Darst, Leslie Stotts, Jonathan Powers, Leah Powers, David Jackson, Drew Jackson, Thomas Jackson and Harrison Moore; 5 great-grandchildren, Will Stotts, Isabella Osbourne, Ella Rose Darst, Olivia True Stotts and Lewis Darst; one niece; and two nephews.

Services were Wednesday, Dec. 6 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Quentin Sholtz and the Rev. Richard Reed officiating. Burial at Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Drew Jackson, David Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Jonathan Powers, Billy Stotts, Tim Jackson, Ashley Stotts and Chris Moore.

Honorary pallbearers: Members of Caswell Saufley Post 18American Legion, Short Saufley, Ken Blair, Don Warren, Tom Moser, Brian Osborne, Will Stotts, Bill Fox, Paris Jackson Jr., and Michael Darst, Bill Strong, Dale Moore, Earl Lee Taylor, Hugh Helm, Dr. Rod Bates.

Memorials can be made to the Sonny Allen Scholarship Fund, in care of Morehead State University, 150 University Blvd, Morehead, KY or Stanford Christian Church, 200 East Main Street, Stanford, KY 40484.

Virginia Elizabeth Crain Couch
1920-2006

MOREHEAD - Virginia Elizabeth Crain Couch, age 86, of Logan Hollow Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born March 5, 1920, in Pike County, Kentucky, she was the only child of the late Samuel and Louise Hill Crain. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three husbands, Reynolds Ingram, Robert Matthews, and Kermit Couch.

Mrs. Couch is survived by one son, Robert (Debbie) Ingram of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Vicki Pattenaude of Monroe County, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Leann (Ryan) McKenzie and Bobby Ingram.

Mrs. Couch, a longtime resident of Detroit, Michigan, was a retired seamstress. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and watching Western movies. A memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Earl Sanders officiating. Arrangements by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Michael Anthony Johnson
1952-2006

MOREHEAD - Michael Anthony Johnson, age 54, of West Main Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born August 18, 1952, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he is the son of Linda Gregory Johnson Lowe of Clearfield, Kentucky, and the late Joe Dickie Johnson. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Kenneth Johnson, Glendon Ray Johnson, Dean Johnson, Ronald Johnson and Gary Ivo Johnson.

On June 16, 1973, he was united in marriage to his wife, Joy C. Johnson, who survives.

In addition to his wife of 35 years and his mother, he is also survived by three brothers, Rex Johnson and wife Helen of Winchester, Kentucky, Raymond Johnson and wife Jan of Clearfield, Kentucky, and Ernie Johnson and wife Barb of Clearfield, Kentucky; and one sister, Carolyn Brown and husband Paul of Morehead, Kentucky.

Mr. Johnson was a former heavy equipment operator, wood carver, avid sportsman.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Adkins officiating; burial was in Ditney Cemetery. Arrangements were by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Ida M. Blackburn Robinson
1951-2006

MOREHEAD - Ida M. Blackburn Robinson, age 55, of Kimberly Lane, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born May 18, 1951, in Pike County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of and the late Tilden Blackburn, Jr., and Dixie Gibson Maynard and her husband John Maynard of Proctorville, Ohio.

In addition to her mother and stepfather, Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, Donald Robinson; two sons, Kenneth and Michael Robinson, both of Morehead, Kentucky; four daughters, Dawn Wagoner of Elliott County, Kentucky, Mary Robinson of Clearfield, Kentucky, Lori Robinson of Paintsville, Kentucky, and Jennifer Robinson of Elliott County, Kentucky; two brothers, Jeff Blackburn of Chesapeake, Ohio, and Billy Blackburn of California; one sister, Eva Jo Sarver of Ashland, Kentucky; and 12 grandchildren.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Dorothy Lee Pickrell Snedegar
1919-2006

MOREHEAD - Dorothy Lee Pickrell Snedegar, age 87, of Colfax Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 25, 2006, at her residence. Born February 21, 1919, in Fleming County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Virgie Reynolds Pickrell. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Snedegar in 1950; her daughter, Gardenia Ann Snedegar Hicks on April 23, 1985; and special friend, Barney Reeves, on December 12, 2004.

Mrs. Snedegar is survived by four grandchildren, Janet Stewart and husband Todd, Allen Hicks and wife Lorrie, Rodney Hicks, and Karen Curtis and husband Charles; four great-grandchildren, Kayla Hicks, Adam Hicks, Tyler Stewart, and Kristina Curtis; son-in-law, Scottie Hicks and his wife Susan; and special caregiver, Missy Gamble.

Mrs. Snedegar was a homemaker and for many years enjoyed crocheting and sewing. She got great pleasure from her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She was of the Christian Faith.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, December 29, 2006, with the Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Caudill Cemetery at Sharkey. Pallbearers will be Ricky Lewis, Eric Lewis, Donnie Fawns, Dr. Jim Rollins, Michael Fultz, and Herman Shelley. Honorary pallbearers will be Glenn Burris, Tyler Stewart, and Adam Hicks. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351

Aaron N. Tackett
1922 - 2006

MISSOURI - Aaron N. Tackett, 84, Blue Springs, Mo., passed away Satur-day, Dec. 16, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Aaron was born on February 24, 1922, to Abner and Rosa (Lit-tleton) Tackett in Morehead. On Nov. 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Frances (Eckles). Aaron served his country in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was employed by the Bendix Corp. as a U.S. Govern-ment Machinist and was a mem-ber of the Blue Springs Police Auxiliary and New Garden Primitive Baptist Church of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Aaron loved to cook and enjoyed farm-ing part-time. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Lesmeister and a grandson, David Lesmeister.

His survivors include his wife, Frances, of the home; daughter Judith Willis and her hus-band, Richard of Grain Valley, Mo.; brothers Elvis Tackett of Germantown, Ohio, and Walter Tackett of Morehead, three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 20 at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs, 816-229-2101. Interment followed in Blue Springs Ceme-tery. The family sug-gests memorial contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.

Francis “Brooks” Davis
1925-2006

MOREHEAD - Francis “Brooks” Davis, age 81, of Corey Road, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 11, 2006, at the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Born November 18, 1925, in Fleming County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Frank and LouNora Graham Davis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Davis and a sister, Ruby Davis Hart, all of Flemingsburg.

Brooks is survived by his wife of 25 years, Madge Conn Davis; two daughters, Bertie Caudill and husband Ralph Wayne of Carlisle, Ohio, and Bonnie Milligan and husband Leeroy of Germantown, Ohio; three sons, Brooks Davis, Jr. of Miamisburg, Ohio, Bill Davis and wife Gwen of Greenville, Ohio, and Tony Davis and wife Linda of Arcanum, Ohio; children, Pamela Schwartz and husband Bob of Dayton, Ohio, Onita Titelman and husband Andy of Marietta, Georgia, Linda Dosch of Arizona, Randall Donithan and wife Carla of Burlington, Kentucky, Rhonda Hicks and husband Estil of Salt Lick, Kentucky, Renee Donithan of Salt Lick, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; a niece, Shirley Hart Worthington; nephews Jack Hart and Bill Hart; and McFarland nieces and nephews.

Mr. Davis was a graduate of Fleming County High School and retired from Sears in Dayton, Ohio. He was a member of Midland First Church of God. He will be sadly missed by friends, neighbors, and members of Midland Church of God.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Pennington officiating; burial was in the Fleming County Cemetery in Flemingsburg, Kentucky. Serving as pallbearers were Mr. Davis’s three sons and Ben Davis, Michael Davis, and Randall Donithan. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Lee Eby, Corey Bowman, Kyle Bowman, Dylan Back, Randall Donithan II, Clinton Johnson, Jack Hart, and Bill Hart.

Visitation was Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Mable Jean Blankenship
Age: 59
Visitation: Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel after 6pm Monday with evening services each evening at 7pm
Funeral Service: Funeral services will be 11:00a.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with Clinard Ratliff and Bud Crum officiating.
Interment: Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at Shelbiana, KY.

Mable Jean Blankenship, age 59, of Pikeville, passed away, Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Pikeville Medical Center.

She was a Homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

She was born in Pike County, Kentucky on February 25, 1948 the daughter of Jessie Mae McCoy Blankenship and the late Alex Blankenship.

Along with her mother, she is survived by her companion, Truman Slone and three sons, Truman Slone, Jr. and Irland Slone both of Pikeville and Everett Slone and two daughters, Diana Lynn Slone and Hester Jean Slone.

She is also survived by four brothers, Ernest Compton, Danny Blankenship and Alex Blankenship all of Pikeville and Ireland Blankenship of Virgie and one sister, Liddie Ann Casebolt of Shelbiana.

She is also survived by two grandchildren, Ashley Slone and Bailey Slone.
