Carma Pearl Walker Johnson
1916-2006
MOREHEAD - Carma Pearl Walker Johnson, age 90, formerly of Brown Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006, at Lakepointe Senior Care and Rehab Center in Clinton Township, Michigan. She was born February 13, 1916, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late William and Bertie Lee Moore Walker. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Sidney (Sid) Johnson on May 9, 1998.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Othelia Kegley of Clinton Township, Michigan and Janice Martinez of Denver, Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one half-sister, Margaret Jones of Morehead, Kentucky; and a special niece and her husband, Dee and Richard Jent of Warren, Michigan.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Entombment was in Forest Lawn Mausoleum. Visitation was Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Venita Sally Trumbo Surface
1929–2006
MOREHEAD – Venita Sally Trumbo Surface, 77, of Old Flemingsburg Road passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at her residence.
She was born on February 7, 1929 in Morehead, Kentucky to the late Elmer Swinigan and Cora Boyd Swinigan Conley.
Mrs. Surface was a homemaker and she enjoyed crocheting, quilting and embroidery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd R. Surface who passed away in 1986, her companion, Tommy Stamper who passed away in 2006, one daughter, Dinah Elaine Trumbo who passed away in 1956, two brothers, Edward Swinigan and Claude Earl Swinigan, three sisters, Nelva Layne, Thelma White and Iona Ruth Hall and one granddaughter, Tracy Jo King who passed away in 1970.
Survivors include three sons, Frank Trumbo and his wife, Delores of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Lee Surface and his wife, Kim of Morehead and Paul Surface and his fiancé, Debbie of Alexandria, Indiana, one daughter, Wanda Black and her husband, Jerry of Owingsville, two brothers, Bob Swinigan of Proctorville, Ohio and Joe Conley of Zwolle, Louisiana, two sisters, Barbara
Atkinson of Indianapolis, Indiana and Bonnie Taylor of Anderson, Indiana, seven grandchildren, Floyd Baker, Vanessa Tucker, Heather Black, Cody Black,
Marty Norris, Mary Trumbo and Michael Paul Surface and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 16, 2006 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Boyd Cemetery. Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Michael Paul Surface, Vincent Tucker, Floyd Baker, Joshua Norris, Troy Hurst, Cody Black and R. T. Tucker.
Terry Dale Gulley
1953-2006
MOREHEAD – Terry Dale Gulley, 53, of Wallingford, Kentucky passed away
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 in the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.
He was born on June 27, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to Josie McKee Gulley of
Wallingford and the late Irvin Gulley.
Mr. Gulley was a retired school bus driver for the Fleming County School
System. He was a United States Army Veteran and enjoyed playing bingo.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Christopher Dale Gulley.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Weaver Gulley, whom he married
on November 7, 1988, of Wallingford, four sons, Terry Marsh Gulley and his wife, Angie of Maxey Flats, Douglas Scott Gulley and his wife, Brandy of Corbin, Dustin Ray Gulley and his fiancé, Danielle Legner of Wallingford and Errick Lance Gulley at home, one daughter, Kayla Faye Gulley at home, two sisters, Pamela Rameriz and her husband, Nacho of Florence and Barbara Stojadinovivch and her husband, Mischa of Wallingford, three grandchildren, Hannah Brooke Gulley, Cameron Scott Gulley and Candice Michele Gulley and special aunts, Becky Papineau of Flemingsburg and Ann Elam of Winchester.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 23, 2006 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Herbie Stallard officiating. Burial was in the Muses Mills Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Flora McCleese Henry
1928 - 2006
INDIAN CREEK - Flora McCleese Henry, 78, of Indian Creek, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 19 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born July 18, 1928 in Indian Creek to the late Clifton Bruce and Callie Scott Sparks. On Sept. 8, 1943, she married
Jesse McCleese, who preceded her in death on June 11, 1984. She married
Thurman Henry on Dec. 23, 1989; he died March 27, 1990.
Mrs. Henry was a member of the Upper Trugh Camp Christian Church. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by the following family members: sons Dean (Jackie) McCleese of Vanceburg, Randy (Linda) McCleese of Morehead, Roger (Carolyn) McCleese of Camden, Tenn., David (Mariam) McCleese of Kissimmee, Fla., Jack (Dana) McCleese of Greenup, Gale (Terry) McCleese of Russellville, Ala., Vinson (Kathy) McCleese of Raceland; daughters Carol (David) Jefferson of Indian Creek, Martha (Burford) Campbell of Millersburg, Nancy (Marty) Thornsberry of Chillicothe, Ohio; brothers George Sparks of Bellefontaine, Ohio and Johnnie (Joyce) Sparks of Vanceburg; sisters Francis (Louis) Brown of Iva, S.C., Dorothy Dunaway of Morehead, Velma (Warren) Hyrne of Wakeman, Ohio, and Betty (Jim) Stacy of Morehead; 29 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Tilman, and Walter Sparks and five sisters, Flosse Cooper, Margaret McCleese, Vivian Stidam, Nora Hazelwood, and Geneva Stamm.
Services were held Friday, Dec. 22 at Dickerson Funeral Home. Sister Ruth Hurst presided. Burial followed in Thomas Cemetery on Indian Creek Road.
Irene Wells Brown
1913-2006
MOREHEAD - Irene Wells Brown, age 93, of Bays Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehab in Owingsville, Kentucky. Born December 5, 1913, at Wrigley in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Barbara Atkins Wells. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Lovena Lewis of Louisa, Kentucky; a half sister, Ora Wells; and half brothers, Denzil Wells, Flavis Wells, and Virgil Barker.
Her husband of 55 years, Herman Clarence Brown, preceded her in death on January 30, 1992.
Mrs. Brown is survived by one daughter, Barbara Brown Fannin and husband Larry of Morehead; three grandchildren, Lara Fannin Haney and husband Greg, Ty Fannin and wife Missi, and Blake Fannin, all of Morehead; five great grandchildren, Abbey Allen, Chelsea Allen, Amy Allen, Peyton Fannin, and Presley Fannin; one sister, Evalena Ruth of Lexington; and four nieces and five nephews.
A teacher during World War II in Redwine, Kentucky, Mrs. Brown spent most of her life as a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God.
Visitation is after 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2006, with the funeral to be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson, Rev. Ben Tackett and Steve Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ty Fannin, Blake Fannin, Greg Haney, David Ruth, Darby Ruth and Richard Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Alderman, Ernest Brown, Gene Buckler, Walter Carr, L. J. Caskey, Randy Day, Art Litton, Leonard Ruth, Ben Tackett, Steve Taylor, and Calvin Wells.

Born in Pike Co., Steve was the son of the late Jimmy and Aurora Sword Justice. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Hurricane Creek Regular Primitive Baptist Church and Full Gospel Christian Fellowship Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Prudie Mae Howell Justice, two sons: Whetsel Crit Justice and James Arlin Justice, five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include:
Two sons: Steve (Lona DeEtta)Justice, Jr and Robert (Brenda) Justice both of Pikeville
Three Daughters: Aretta Lee, Linda Sue Justice, and Brenda Kay Boggs all of Pikeville
