John Curtis Furr
1940-2006
MOREHEAD - John Curtis Furr, age 66, of Rockfork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born January 10, 1940, in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late John Madison and Viola Virginia Carpenter Furr.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jossie Laferty Furr; two daughters, Debbie Ellis of Morehead, Kentucky and Christine James and husband Henry of Mays Lick, Kentucky; one brother, Roger Furr of Greenwich, Ohio; three sisters, Dorothy Beverly of Plymouth, Ohio, Bonita Greathouse of Tiffin, Ohio, and Virginia West of Attica, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Jacqueline Redmon, Nickie Tash, Jonathan James, Jr., and Tiffany Barker; and 4 great grandchildren, Wesley, Kandyse, Devin, and Josh, Jr.
Mr. Furr was a farmer and collector of John Deere tractors.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with the Brother Jim Porter officiating. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Ina Gaye Reed Stallard
1936-2006
MOREHEAD - Ina Gaye Reed Stallard, age 70, of Parkside Court, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born May 24, 1936, in Canada, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John B. and Dorothy Mounts Reed.
Survivors include two sons, Jason Stallard of Tampa, Florida, and Kevin Stallard of Owingsville, Kentucky; one daughter, Lisa Powers and husband Tim of Stockbridge, Georgia; three brothers, George William Reed, Daniel Reed, and John Reed, all of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Ella Thurston of Louisville, Kentucky, Barbara Ramey of Morehead, Kentucky, and Edith Roe and husband Louis, of Lexington, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Katie, Emily, and Nick Powers, and Candece Stallard.
Ina was a retired bookkeeper and worked at several banks throughout Kentucky and Virginia. She also formerly served as Deputy Circuit Court Clerk in Pike County, Kentucky. She enjoyed crocheting and working puzzles. Ina was a member of the Pikeville Methodist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating; burial was in the Brown Cemetery. Family served as pallbearers.
Visitation was Friday, December 15, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
William Chester Warren
1919-2006
MOREHEAD - William Chester Warren, age 87, of Reynolds Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky. Born May 21, 1919, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Noah and Etta Mae Davis Warren. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Willard Warren and Elwood Warren; and one sister, Myrtle Warren Purvis.
Mr. Warren is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lillian Rose Mynhier Warren; two daughters, Phyllis Warren Flannery and Kay Warren Long and husband Elmer, both of Morehead, Kentucky; one son, William Warren, Jr., of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and eleven nephews.
Mr. Warren served in the U. S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He was a construction worker and member of the Siloam Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Albert McCalvin and Brother Dean Tiller officiating; burial will follow in the Poston Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Flannery, Mark Flannery, Billy Warren, Michael Greene, Nolan Flannery, and Jeff Warren.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in Morehead, Kentucky.
Harold Wilson
1937-2006
MICH. - Harold O. Wilson, 69, of Trenton, Michigan, formerly of Haldeman, Kentucky, passed away on October 25, 2006 at Henry Ford Medical Center Detroit, Michigan.
He was born August 2, 1937 to the late Floyd and Bertha Wilson of Haldeman, Kentucky. He attended school at Haldeman and Morehead.
He was a member of Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Wyandotte, Michigan. He was involved in a gospel band formed with members of his church. They were invited to play at many local churches as well as charitable functions in the area.
Harold retired from McClouth Steel Co. and later on developed pulmonary fibrosis. He was the beloved husband of the late Jonelle who passed away in February 2005.
Survived by daughter Pamela (Ron) Kiel, sons Darrin and Todd (Renee). Also survived by brothers Marvin (Sharon) Southgate, Michigan, Bob (Jonnie) Dixon Springs, Tennessee.
Preceded in death by son Harold Steven, sisters Lela (Dave) Stinson, Lena (Clyde) Worley, Dorothy (Don), Rushlow, Linda (Glenn) Taylor, and Ina Faye (Jesse) Grubbs, also Brother Eugene (Peggy) Wilson.
Arrangements were made by Michigan Memorial Funeral Home, Flat Rock, Michigan.

Carma Pearl Johnson, age 90, formerly of Morehead, widow of Albert Sidney (Sid) Johnson, passed away Friday at the Lakepointe Senior Care and Rehab Center in Clinton Township, Michigan
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Lenora Kidd Perry Whitt
1923-2006
MOREHEAD - Lenora Kidd Perry Whitt, age 83, of Triplett View, Morehead, Ketucky, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. She was born February 14, 1923, at Haldeman in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Leslie Lee and Daisy Mae Rice Kidd. Besides her parents, Lenora was preceded in death by her first husband Eugene Lonas Perry on April 16, 1982; her second husband, Dallas Whitt; two sons, Lonas Laverne Perry on February 17, 1984, and Ronald Eugene “Ronnie” Perry on November 27, 2006; one daughter, Margaret Ann Perry; three brothers, Lorne Kidd, Lawrence Kidd, and Larry Kidd; and three sisters, Nema Slone, Elizabeth Buckler, and Stella Lewis.
Survivors include three sons, James Anthony Perry and his wife Anita of Elliott County, Kentucky, Gerald Lee Perry and his wife Ruth of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Gary Malcolm Perry and his wife Naomi of Salt Lick, Kentucky; one daughter, Della Faye Wagoner and her husband Roy of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter-in-law, Sandra Fultz Perry of Morehead; one brother, Marvin Kidd and his wife Avis of Morehead, Kentucky; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Whitt was a homemaker and a member of the Sandy Hook Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Porter officiating; burial was in the Perry Cemetery in Morgan County. Grandchildren served as pallbearers. Visitation was Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Ella Mae Maggard Johnson
1940 – 2006
OLIVE HILL - Ella Mae Maggard Johnson, age 66, of State Highway 2, Olive Hill, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehab in Owingsville, Kentucky. She was born April 17, 1940, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Ercel and Beulah Lewis Maggard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Campbell, and one grandson, Matthew Sloan.
She is survived by one son, Rodney Campbell of Vienna, West Virginia, and one daughter, Shelia Sloan of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jeffrey Sloan of Olive Hill, Kentucky and Marshall Campbell of Vienna, West Virginia. Ella Mae was a homemaker and resided with her loving brother, Virgil (Red) Maggard of Olive Hill. She will be missed by all that knew her.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Jacobs Cemetery in Carter County. Visitation is after 4 p.m. Friday, November 24, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

On July 29, 2007, after a long battle with cancer, Robert Bane "Hooker" Phillips passed away at his home in Barbourville, KY. "Hooker" was born in Pike Co., on March 3, 1934 and was the son of the late Grant and Faye Williamson Phillips, Jr. He is survived by his wife: Marsha Parsons Phillips of Barbourville; son Robert Bryan Phillips, his wife Tiffany, and daughter Sarah of Lexington; daughter Katrina Blomquist, husband, Marv and their two daughters, Kelsey Lynn and Kendall Leigh of Lousiville; one brother Larry Phillips of Fernandina Beach, FL; two sisters: Sally Williamson, husband Walker, of Middletown, OH; Marsha Phillips of Mason, OH; a step son, Kevin Parsons, wife Kristen, their children Tanner and Allie of Barbourville; one niece, Suzanne Phillips Penteherra and her four sons, Lance, Bob, Dillon, and Blake also of Florida; and one nephew, Rob Williamson of Middletown, OH
In the early 1950's "Hooker" was a well known high school athlete at Pikeville High School. He participated in all sports but excelled in football and basketball. During his high school careeer he received local and state recognition. Upon graducation, he was granted a football scholarship to the University of Kentucky where he played four years for Paul "Bear" Bryant and Blanton Collier
"Hooker". He began his teaching and coaching career at his alma mater, Pikeville High School as head football and assistant basketball coach. These years were followed by positions in Ohio, Illinois and back to Kentucky at Johns Creek High School, Betsy Layne High School and finally Knox Central High School. He also coached football and basketball in the Lexington Parks and Recreational League where he produced may championship teams

John Paul Slocum
1952 - 2006
MOREHEAD - John Paul Slocum, age 54, of Knapp Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away November 21, 2006, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. Born October 18, 1952, in Utica, NY, he was the son of the late Leith Arnold Slocum and Julia Marie Ball Slocum.
He is survived by one brother, Scott Slocum and his wife Susan of Winchester, Kentucky, and one sister, Dr. Jeanne Osborne of Morehead, Kentucky.
A graduate of Le Moyne University in Syracuse, New York, with majors in mathematics and philosophy, Mr. Slocum had been a computer programmer.
A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2006, at Faith Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Schanpz officiating. Arrangements by Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Marie Doris Roberts Black
1927-2006
MOREHEAD - Marie Doris Roberts Black, age 79, of Nicholasville, formerly of Morehead, went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 26, 2006. She was born March 28, 1927, to Marion G. Roberts and Iva Mae Dickey Roberts. Her husband, James Edward Black, passed away October 10, 1987. She is survived by one daughter, Allie Gammon and her husband Bill of Nicholasville; one son, Phillip E. Black and his wife Diane of Morehead; one sister, Nevera Roberts of Louisville; three grandchildren, Coby Gammon, Kelly Black Griggs, and Shannon Black; and six great-grandchildren.
A nurse for 25 years, Mrs. Black was a former employee of the Life Care Center in Morehead and in health care facilities in Owingsville and Lexington. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Millard Pettit and Pastor Tim Rhodes officiating; burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
