Thurman L. Kegley
1922-2006
FAIRBORN, OHIO - Thurman L. Kegley, age 84, of Fairborn, passed away Sunday December 3, 2006 at his residence.
He was born January 30, 1922 in Rowan Co., Kentucky, the son of the late Harve and Thursday (Nichols) Kegley. Thurman was self-employed as a carpenter and a member of the Pentecostal church.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Mauverine Kegley in 1995; a daughter, Lillian (Kegley) Teague in 2003; three brothers, Curtis Kegley, Vernon Kegley, Chester Kegley; three sisters, Ottie Pennington, Leada Bateson, and Lyla Gibbs. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, June Kegley; three sons, Glenn Kegley, and wife Ardena of Fairborn, Reginald Kegley, and wife Sherry of Beavercreek, Lee Kegley of Fairborn; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Oscar Kegley of Stockwood, Georgia; two sisters, Jewel Mayberry, Shirley Jean Black, both of Morehead, Kentucky; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 6, 2006 at 10 a.m., Rev. Foster Walters and Rev. Eugene Winkelman officiating. Burial will follow in the Byron Cemetery.
Frankie Joe Dulin
1960-2006
MOREHEAD - Frankie Joe Dulin, age 46, of Mabry Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, December 4, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born November 30, 1960, in Morgan County, Kentucky, he is the son of Clayton and Inda Sue Gambill Dulin of West Liberty, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Kay Sloan Dulin; one daughter, Sarah Dulin, at home; three stepdaughters, Beth James of Morehead, Kentucky, Crystal Caudill of Clearfield, Kentucky and Kayla James of Farmers, Kentucky; one brother, William Dulin of West Liberty, Kentucky; and two sisters, Joyce Watson and Ressie Stacy, both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Santana Adkins and Dalton Caudill; one grandchild to be born soon; two nephews, Jr. Stacy and J. C. Watson. One brother, Leroy Dulin, preceded him in death.
Joe was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local Union #248 in Lexington, Kentucky, and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of the Zag Community Church.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Donald Cox officiating; burial was in the McClain Cemetery on Route 172 in Morgan County. Pallbearers were Sammy Adkins, Denzil Hall, Shane Henderson, Justin Sloan, Dale Sloan, and Rick Manns. Visitation Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Raymond L. Gearhart
BENSALEM, P.A. - Raymond L. Gearhart, 85, of Croydon, Pa., died Monday, Dec. 4 at his home. He was born in Morehead and was a resident of Croydon for 55 years. He was a supervisor for General Electric in Philadelphia for 10 years and also with Kaiser in Bristol for 10 years.
He was retired from Pennsbury School District as an instructional assistant in 1986 after 14 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served on the U.S.S. Saratoga.
He was the husband of the late Dorothy F. (Dee Fleming)Gearhart. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service today at 1 p.m. at the Tomlinson Funeral Home, 2207 Bristol Pike, Bensalem, Pa., were friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at the Forest Hills Cemetery in Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
Nella Mae Bumgardner Luman
1934-2006
MOREHEAD - Nella Mae Bumgardner Luman, age 72, of Spring Street South, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at her residence. Born July 20, 1934, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Minerva Epperhart Bumgardner. Nella was also preceded in death by her husband: Stanley Leon Luman on January 17, 1987; two children: Gary Stanley Luman and Unisha Rochelle Luman; one grandchild: Amanda Joan Luman; and four brothers: Carl Clifford Bumgardner, Charles Ivan Bumgardner, James Elwood Bumgardner, and an infant brother.
Survivors include one son: Kevin Wayne Luman of Nashville, Tennessee; three daughters: Rhonda Charlene Lewis and her husband Carl of Morehead, Kentucky, Karen Sue Davis and husband Colie of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Markeeta Lynn Hall and husband Keith of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister: Flora Pennington of Morehead, Kentucky; nine grandchildren: Tonya Arnold and her husband Lonnie, Robbie Moore, Sean Davis, Regina Lewis, Ryan Lewis, Jonathan Parker, Allen Luman, Brianna Luman, and Kelsey Luman; and three great-grandchildren: Samantha Arnold, Sarah Arnold, and Brooklyn Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Luman was a former employee of SealMaster and Elwood’s Econo-Wash and a member of Johnson First Church of God. She enjoyed senior citizens’ activities, flower gardening, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr., the Rev. Ben Furman, and the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Lewis, Jonathan Parker, Sean Davis, Lonnie Arnold, Stephan Pennington, Johnny Pennington, and Frank Harris. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Betty Spears
1932 - 2006
SPRINGFIELD, OHIO - Betty Jean Horton Spears, 73, of Xenia, Ohio, formerly of Haldeman, passed away Nov. 18, at the Springfield Community Hospital in Springfield, Ohio, after a short illness.
She was born Dec. 21, 1932, to Clarence E. Horton Sr. and Ada Lewis Horton of Haldeman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Leonard Spears, on Aug. 29, 2004, one brother, Clarence E. Horton Jr., and an infant sister, Wilma Ruth Horton.
She is survived by one daughter, Brenda Jones and her husband, Larry, of Spring Hill, Fla., and one son, Darryl Spears and his wife, Debbie, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.;
Two grandchildren, Heidi Sternsedt of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Jeremy Spears of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Avonell Moore of Xenia, Ohio and Sue Kidd of Morehead.
Betty enjoyed writing poetry, quilting, gardening and taking walks. Her lifetime was spent helping others. When she saw a need, she did her best to supply whatever was needed, whether it be food, clothing, emotional, financial support, or caring for the sick.
Her helping hands were always there. She will surely be missed by family, friends and neighbors.
A memorial service was held at the Church of God on Maple Avenue in Fairborn, Ohio, with her cousin, Rev. Harold Horton, officiating.
The family's apologies to any family and friends who were not notified in time to attend the memorial service.
Shirley Mae (Carpenter) Meadows
1938-2006
ILLINOIS - Shirley Mae (Carpenter) Meadows, 68, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Mulkeytown, passed away 5:23 p.m., Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the St. Frances Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, MO as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Shirley was born July 2, 1938 in Franklin County, Illinois to Jasper Lee and Daisy Pearl (Flowers) Carpenter.
She married
Frank S. Meadows July 7, 1956 at the Creek Nation Pentecostal Church in Mulkeytown. He survives in Kentucky.
Other survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Brian Douglas Meadows of Chicago and Christopher C. and Julie E. Meadows of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; one daughter, Atheana Marie Meadows of Bondsville, Massachusetts; four grandchildren, Jessica Rose, Jasper Ian, Clare Carpenter and Nathaniel Emerson Meadows; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Doris and Stanley Meadows and Fern Triplett all of Christopher.
Her parents and a brother, Bobby L. Carpenter preceded her in death.
Mrs. Meadows was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
Funeral services for Mrs. Meadows were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Brother Henry Meadows officiating. Burial followed at Mulkeytown Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Meadows may be made to the donor’s choice of charities.
Phillip Dean Black
1968-2006
MOREHEAD - Phillip Dean Black, age 38, of Muses Mill Road, Wallingford, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2006, at his residence. He was born August 14, 1968, in New Castle, Indiana, and is the son of Darrell C. Black of Hillsboro, Kentucky, and Ella Jean Bennett Wilborn of Lansing, Michigan.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Aaron Phillip Black of Hillsboro, Kentucky; two daughters, Heather Jeanne Black of Hillsboro, Kentucky, and Megan Deanna Perry of Wallingford, Kentucky; one half-brother, Brian Godby of Lansing, Michigan; and one sister, Kimberly Sue Black of Elsie, Michigan. Mr. Black was employed as a telephone construction worker.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating; burial was in the Black-Trent Cemetery on Trent Ridge. Pallbearers were Bret Hamilton, Greg Hamilton, Daniel Thompson, Johnny Ingram, Fred Thomas, Justin Ingram, Richie Caskey, Jimmy Cox, Brian Godby and T. J. Hurst. Visitation was Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Arthur Von Adkins
1954-2006
MOREHEAD - Arthur Von Adkins, age 52, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 7, 2006, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born June 11, 1954, in Huntington, West Virginia, and is the son of Edith Adkins of Morehead, Kentucky, and Ivory Perry of Jackson, Michigan. His stepfather, James M. Hale, preceded him in death.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Nyoka Duty Adkins; one son, David G. Adkins of Providence, Rhode Island; six sisters, Louise Sargent, Deloris Easterling, Mary Mullen and husband Jerry, and Candy Marcum, all of Morehead, Kentucky, Margaret Roff, and husband K. C. of Rancho Cucamonga, California; and Donna Cadle of Jackson, Michigan; three brothers, Charles Hale and James Hale and wife Rhonda of Morehead, Kentucky, and David Hale of Grayson, Kentucky. Other survivors include his mother-in-law, Essie Duty of Dunlow, West Virginia; four sisters-in-law, Christine Carroll and husband Bob, Judith Browning and husband John, and Rhonda Adkins and husband Tommy, all of Wayne, West Virginia, and Alethia Wiley and husband Teddy of Ranger, West Virginia; two brothers-in-law, Ted Duty and wife Tera of Dunlow, West Virginia, and Darrell Duty of Akron, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Special mention should be given to Patricia Caldwell of Cleveland, Ohio, who was just like a mother; and Shelby, for her liver donation to Von in October 2004. Thanks, Shelby, for each extra day.
Von served his country in the U.S. Army as a military police officer and was a former hotel manager and mortgage broker. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Wayne, West Virginia.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Minister Ronald D. Ross officiating; burial was in the Nickell-Harris Cemetery with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Pallbearers were Adam Mullen, Joey Earls, Randy Wagoner, Mike Ferguson, Ronnie Caudill, Robert Carroll, Jeremy Hale and Derek Hale. Visitation was Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
