Inez Marie (Sis) Raybourn Maddix
1924-2007
MOREHEAD - Inez Marie (Sis) Raybourn Maddix, age 82, of U.S. 60 West, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 29, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born April 29, 1924, at Lawton, Kentucky she was the daughter of the late Chester Arthur Raybourn and Edna McBrayer Raybourn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Deck, Jack, Wade, and Todd Raybourn. Sis’s husband of 57 years, Kenneth Earl Maddix, died February 18, 1996.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela Maddix McIntyre and James Frederick McIntyre of Wise, VA; two granddaughters and husbands, Kathleen Marie McIntyre Greene and Eric Todd Greene of Wise, VA and Juliana Marie McIntyre Baugh and Bradley Jason Baugh of Big Stone Gap, VA; and three great grandchildren, Wesley Michael Baugh and James Moody Baugh of Big Stone Gap, VA, and Angus Padrig Greene of Wise, VA; one brother, Dr. T. R. Raybourn of South Shore, KY; one sister and husband, Patricia Knoblock and William Knoblock of Napoleon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Sis was a homemaker and had been a member of the Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church since August 24, 1986.
She will be keenly missed by a multitude of family, friends and neighbors who will remember always her overflowing table when company was coming, her loyalty to loved ones, as well as her sharp wit and feisty sense of humor. Sis lived very much in the light of a familiar prayer: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.” She survived the ups and downs of life without shrinking away from them. She seemed to have a knack for wasting-not and wanting-not alike. Whatever life gave would “made-do, ” so that her cup was half-full, never half-empty.
Sis was an industrious and talented woman, who made an art of cooking, sewing, macramé, loom weaving, furniture upholstering, and toile painting. She and her husband Earl traveled across much of the eastern U.S. and throughout Canada in their early years of marriage, and into parts of the Mid-West in later years.
Well after her roving days, she held an interest in current events. Being an avid Republican, she kept an eye on Fox News in particular. Yet seeing the latest addition to family was the type of news that made Nannie (as the grandchildren called her) most jubilant. Just as the newest baby was always “the best” baby to Sis, she herself was always the best!
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher officiating; burial will follow in Brown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Troy Conn, Shannon Hamilton, John Lyons, Tom Perkins, Dallas Plank, Arthur Raybourn, and Ricky Raybourn.
