MARVIN HELM
CADIZ, Ky. -- Marvin Helm, 42, Cadiz, died at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, in Trigg County of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. (See story on page A6)
Services were to be at 2 this afternoon at Goodwin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Irvin Darnall officiating.
Burial was to be in East End Cemetery.
A native of Alton, Ill., he was born March 1, 1958, the son of Betty Coleman Darnall, Trigg County, and the late Cecil B. Helm. He was a construction worker and a member of the Jehovah Witnesses.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Tyler Helm; his stepfather, Elias Darnall, Trigg County; a son, Matthew Helm, Trigg County; a daughter, Lora Ann Helm, Trigg County; and a brother, Terry Helm, Trigg County.
BETTY J. COOK
Betty Jean Poe Cook, 70, Candy Drive, died at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 4, 2000, at her home following a long illness.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with the Rev. Greg Giltner officiating. Burial will be in the Starkey Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday.
A native of Hopkinsville, she was born May 7, 1930, the daughter of the late Cecil and Mary Henrietta Thomas Poe. She was an administrative assistant for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Social Services and was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela Donnell East, Juliann Cook Partain, Gaye Donnell Nunn, all of Hopkinsville; a brother, David Poe, Jackson, Tenn.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice or the E.C. Green Cancer Center.
BETTY McCLOUD
ELKTON, Ky. -- Services for Betty Jean McCloud, 61, Hendersonvile, Tenn., formerly of Todd County, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Latham Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Trenton.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
She died of natural causes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Hendersonville Hospital.
She was born June 15, 1938, the daughter of the late John W. and Elizabeth Scott Roberson. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Van McCloud; two sons, Roger Dale McCloud, Cookeville, Tenn., and David Van McCloud, Goodlettsville, Tenn.; a brother, Melvin Roberson, Nashville, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.
EDD BELEW
Edd Belew, 81, Oak Grove, died of natural causes Friday afternoon, April 7, 2000, at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, Fort Campbell.
Arrangements were incomplete this morning at Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home, Clarksville, Tenn.
DOROTHY C. ROWLETT
Dorothy Caplinger Rowlett, 96, Christian Health Center, died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with the Rev. Cory Pitts officiating. Burial will follow in Murray Cemetery, Murray, and visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until time for the service.
A native of Lebanon, Ohio, she was born Sept. 3, 1907, the daughter of the late William J. and Therese Strother Caplinger. She grew up in Maysville.
She had taught art in the Murray City Schools, Murray Training School and Murray State College. She previously lived in Florida where she was the first art supervisor for the Duval County Schools, Jacksonville, and gained recognition in the field of art education as president of the Florida Art Educators Association, Southeastern Arts Association and as national chairman of the International School Art Committee of the National Art Educators Association.
She received recognition as an artist and won numerous awards for her paintings, the most recent being "El Nino" when at the age of 91, she won best watercolor and best of show at the Riverfest Art Exhibition in Clarksville, Tenn.
She retired in 1970 but served as curator of art education at the Jacksonville Art Museum and was recipient of the first Memphis Wood Award for leadership and service to the museum.
In recent years she resided in Hopkinsville and was a member of the Hopkinsville Art Guild.
Her husband, John M. Rowlett, died in 1929.
Survivors include her son, Dr. Bill Rowlett, four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Dorothy C. Rowlett Art Education Scholarship at Murray State University or to the donor's charity of choice.
FRANK H. RICKS
Frank Howard Ricks, 77, Hopkinsville, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003, at Covington's Convalescent Center of natural causes.
Graveside services were this morning at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Lawrence officiating. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, was in charge of arrangements.
A native of Christian County, he was born April 18, 1926, the son of the late James Calvin and Sallie Russell Ricks. He was self-employed as owner of Frank's Candy Vending. He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Boyd Ricks; three daughters, Pamela Rader, Sandra Yonkers and Lisa Harbold, all of Hopkinsville; two brothers, Hugh Ricks, Hopkinsville, Charles Ricks, Crofton; two sisters, Margaret Lambert, Ashton, W. Va., Sarah Hope, Trumann, Ark., and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
CHRISTOPHER W. JOINER
Christopher Wayne "Chris" Joiner, 31, Elkton, died at Jennie Stuart Medical Center at 7:31 a.m. Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, of injuries suffered in a traffic accident earlier in the morning on U.S. 68 near Elkton.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, Hopkinsville, with the Revs. Joel Whitenton and Jerry Tracy officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A native of Christian County, he was born March 6, 1972, the son of Ron Joiner, Benton, and Debbie Pryor Young, Todd County. He was employed at the Hopkinsville Elevator's Clarksville, Tenn., barge point.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his stepfather, Bill Young; Todd County; stepmother, Jackie Joiner, Benton; two sons, Dylan and Drew Joiner, both of the home; a daughter, Kaylie Anne Joiner, of the home; a brother, Matthew Young, Guthrie and two sisters, Morgan Joiner, Benton and Sarah Young, Guthrie.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to a trust fund established at Planters Bank in Hopkinsville for the children.
JACK ROBBINS
A memorial service for Jack "C.J." Robbins, 67, McLean Avenue, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lamb Funeral Home with Terry Jones officiating.
The body is being cremated. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until time for the service.
He died at 12:13 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center of natural causes.
A native of Hopkinsville, he was born Nov. 13, 1935, the son of the late Fred and Minnie Mae Lantrip Robbins. He was retired from the Air Force and had served two tours in Vietnam. He was also retired from TWA as an avionics technician.
A son, Bruce Wayne Robbins, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, T.R. Robbins, Paducah, Stephen Robbins, Flourissant, Mo., Ronnie Robbins, Murfreesboro; two daughters, Vickie Delangante, Hawaii, Selene Robbins, Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, Jerry and Hank Robbins, both of Detroit and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the David Lee King Scholarship Fund at Southside Church of Christ.

CADIZ, Ky. -- Bessie Noel, 86, Cadiz, died at 6:46 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Trigg County Hospital of natural causes.
