Charles Joseph Crail
1922-2007
MOREHEAD - Charles Joseph Crail, age 85, of Lyons Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
Born April 2, 1922, in Dayton, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Charles and Catherine Leurck Crail.
He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Elizabeth Marie Cooper Crail, whom he wed on October 10, 1959; one son: Stephen Joseph and Donna Crail of Morehead; six daughters: Mary Catherine and Ray Thomson of Potomac, Illinois; Beth Scott of Morehead, Kentucky; Nancy and Sam Estes of Morehead, Kentucky; Julie and Ted Beckmann of Russell Springs, Kentucky; Theresa and Chuck Davis of Morehead, Kentucky; and Victoria and Fred Cooper of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters: Dorothy Grothaus of Ft. Thomas, Kentucky; Catherine Rust of Melbourne, Kentucky; and Beth McClurg of Newport, Kentucky. Other survivors include seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Edwin Crail; one sister, Mary Alwell; his first wife, Elenor Altman Crail; and one son, Bernard Crail.
Mr. Crail served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and retired as the public affairs officer with the U. S. Forest Service after a career of 37 1/2 years. A graduate of Newport High School and Purdue University, his career in forestry began in Alaska and took him to Virginia and several locations in Kentucky, including Ft. Knox, Elizabethtown and Winchester. He assisted in the planning of the recreational facilities at Cave Run Lake and developed programs in Daniel Boone National Forest. He was an Eagle Scout, a volunteer with 4-H Programs, the American Red Cross, and a GED tutor. He helped restore Tater Knob Tower and was a director of the Morehead Memorial Tree Walk. He was a member of Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jay Von Handorf and Deacon Bill Buelterman officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Anthony Donovan, David Estes, Bernie McCarty, Josh Davis, Stevie Crail, and Hank Beckmann.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Sandra Patrick Needham
1947-2007
MOREHEAD - Sandra Patrick Needham, 60, of Conroe, Texas, died Wednesday, September 26, 2007, at home in Conroe.
She was born February 11, 1947, in Greenville, West Virginia, and is the daughter of Ethel (Rogers) Patrick of Carlsbad, CA and Clyde Patrick.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Richard S. Needham of Conroe, TX, whom she married
on March 28, 1970; a daughter Kim (Mark) Toms of Dekalb, IL; and a son Brandon (Karla) Needham of Spring, TX.
Also surviving are grandchildren: Tara Kay, Ashley, Tyler, Rachelle, Cody, Jose Antonio, and Julianna; and great grandchildren: Elias and Adiana.
Additional survivors include siblings: Brenda Patrick-Price of Carlsbad, CA; Larry Patrick of Lake Villa, IL; and James Patrick of Tinley Park, IL, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Patrick, and her brother, Terry Patrick.
Services and entombment will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the Patrick Cemetery in Carter County with Brandon Needham officiating.

Lonnie Steven (Steve) Parker
1947-2007
MOREHEAD - Lonnie Steven (Steve) Parker, age 60, of Christy Creek Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at his residence.
He was born March 11, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky, and is the son of Olive Myrtle Cox Parker of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late Carmel Burnis Parker.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Donna Fyfe Parker; one son, Kevin Parker and wife Kerri of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters, Angela Harris and husband Tim and Kelly Moorehead and husband Larry, all of Elliott County, Kentucky; one sister, Phyllis Glover and husband George of Morehead, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, Madison Parker, Dylan Simmons, Taylor Moorehead, and Alexis Parker.
Steve served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a former member and captain of the Elliottville Fire Department. For thirty years he was an employee of Spring Grove Dairy and Southern Belle and recently worked in retail marketing and merchandising.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Day and the Rev. Rex Seagraves officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be Tim Harris, Larry Moorehead, John Bowling, Dickie Blair, Rick Glover, Eugene Glover, and Kevin Parker.

Gene Sidney (Sid) Stevens
1934-2007
MOREHEAD - Gene Sidney (Sid) Stevens, age 72, of Farmers, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born October 8, 1934, in Farmers, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Harry and Olive Tyree Stevens. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Lloyd “Bud” Stevens and one sister, Norma June Brammer.
He is survived by one brother, Lynden Stevens and wife Judy of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Theda Craig, wife of the late Danny Craig, of Farmers; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and one great nephew.
Sid was the owner and operator of Sid’s Country Store in Farmers for more than 20 years.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Slaty Point Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ken Wilson, Tim Stevens, Larry Stevens, Don Stevens, Roger Stevens, and Philip Craig.
William O. “Bill” Calvert
1931-2007
MOREHEAD - William O. “Bill” Calvert, Age 75 of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, passed away Wednesday evening October 17, 2007 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after an illness of several weeks.
He was born Dec. 10, 1931 in Farmers, Kentucky to the late Frank M. Calvert, Sr. and Frances Armstrong Calvert. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Perry and four brothers, Oscar, Frank, Jr., Malcolm and Willard.
Bill retired from the U.S. Postal service after 34 years of service, attended the Morehead First Church of God and was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed reading, travel, golf and boating.
Survivors include his wife Frankie VanHook Calvert who he married
May 7, 1955.
Two sons, Bill (Cathy) Calvert of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Joe Mac (Donna) Calvert of Morehead, Kentucky. One daughter, Vicki (Barry) Brinegar of Georgetown, Kentucky.
Four Grandchildren, Eric Paxton, Zackary Brinegar, David Calvert and Kelli Calvert Besselman. One Great-Grandson, Wesley Besselman and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, October 20, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Friends may call at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home after 5:00 PM Friday.
Serving as pall bearers will be Willard Calvert, Jr., Tommy Calvert, James Calvert, Steve Calvert, Jerry Flannery, and Scott McClain. Honorary pall bearers will be The Retired Rural Mail Carriers.
Madge Opal Mays Carter
1914-2007
MOREHEAD - Madge Opal Mays Carter, age 93, of Windstar Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
She was born January 21, 1914, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Lee and Stella Carter Mays. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ora L. Carter, in 1978 and one sister, Jewell Caudill, in 1990.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Regena Stone and husband Bernard and Shelby Litton and husband Art, all of Morehead; four grandchildren: Anita (Mark) Hendricksen, Kevin (Lisa) Litton, Angela (Anthony) White, Sheila (David) Harman; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Scaggs of Springfield, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, quilting, and all types of needlework; but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Greg McCarty and Roy Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Litton, Anthony White, David Harman, Evan White, Mark Hendricksen, and J. B. Scaggs.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
