Dorothy Mae Hill Messer
1916-2009
MOREHEAD – Dorothy Mae Hill Messer, age 92, of White Street, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2009, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
She was born November 28, 1916, in Huntington, West Virginia, daughter of the late Leroy and Dorothy Jonas Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Brady Rose.
Her husband, Joseph “Joe” Messer, passed away on July 11, 1978.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret May Withrow and Peggy Maze, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and Mary Lou Omohundro of Louisville, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Also surviving are two brothers, Leroy Hill and wife Minnie and George Hill and wife Jean all of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Day of Morehead, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a sales clerk at the Western Auto for over 40 years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial was in Lee Cemetery.
Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Visitation was Saturday, February 14, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Shirley Ann Adkins Owens
1943-2009
MOREHEAD – Shirley Ann Adkins Owens, age 65, of Halifax Drive, Lexington, Kentucky, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009, at U.K. Samaritan Hospital in Lexington.
Born September 24, 1943, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Donald William Adkins, Sr. and Joyce Alene Salyers Adkins.
Survivors include one son, Lloyd Lee Owens, Jr., of Morehead, one daughter, Kimberly Ann Owens Hess of Lexington, Kentucky, and three granddaughters, Christina Owens, Alisha Owens, and Holly Ann Sweeney.
Also surviving are one sister, Janis Kay Owens of Lexington, Kentucky, and two brothers and their wives, Charles Gary and Mary Sue Reynolds Adkins of Elliottville, Kentucky, and Donald William, Jr. and Peggy Lynn Maschino Adkins of Lexington, Kentucky.
Mrs. Owens was a homemaker and part-time school assistant. She was a member of the Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Bradley Cemetery in Carter County.
Pallbearers will be Roger Craig Owens, Kyle Adkins, Donald William Adkins III, Anthony Spencer, Ash Spencer, and Jerry Maschino.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Edith Evelyn Slusher Perry
1947-2009
MOREHEAD – Edith Evelyn Slusher Perry, age 61, of Oak Grove Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2009, at her residence.
She was born December 9, 1947, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Wayne and Dorothy Mae Blankenbeckler Slusher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jean Ramey.
Mrs. Perry is survived by her husband, Oliver Perry; one daughter, Carol Cecil and husband Gary Allen of West Liberty, Kentucky; one grandson, Austin Allen Cecil of West Liberty, Kentucky; and one brother, Bill Slusher of Clay City, Kentucky.
She was a former employee of Cowdens Manufacturing Company, Imperial Cleaners, and Morehead State University. She attended the Slab Camp Christian Church.
Private family visitation and service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial will take place in the Perry Cemetery, Oak Grove Road, Morehead, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Austin Allen Cecil, Arlie Perry, Gerald McKinney, Ricky Perry, Bill
Slusher, and Larry Jennings.
Jack Turner
1946-2006
MOREHEAD - Jack Turner, age 60, of Maxey Flat Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006, at his residence. He was born June 20, 1946, in Fairborn, Ohio, and was the son of the late Myrtle Turner and George Stevens. One daughter, Roxanne Turner, preceded him in death in 1964.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Bonnie Ferguson Hall; one daughter, Chrystol Thompson; and one son, Shane Turner, all of Hillsboro, Kentucky; one sister, Marcella Adkins of Huntington, West Virginia, and one grandson, Wilson Shane Turner.
Mr. Turner was a carpenter.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joe Gilliam officiating; burial will follow at the Ison Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky. Pallbearers will be Shane Turner, Eric Thompson, Martie King, Rockie King, Robbie King, and Denver Riggsby. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, November 20, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Ina Trent Woodrow
1940-2006
MOREHEAD - Ina Trent Woodrow, age 66, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006, at her residence. She was born January 29, 1940, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Elick Trent and Gracie Sloan Trent. She was preceded in death by brothers, Clint and Clell Trent, and sisters Linnie Reynolds, Vernie and Betty Kegley, and twin sister, Ines Scott.
Mrs. Woodrow is survived by her husband, Forrest Edward Woodrow; two sons: Timothy Forrest Woodrow and Thomas Edward Woodrow, of Morehead, Kentucky; two daughters: Marcella Kay Wallace and Hazel Marie Stevens, of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, Arnold Trent of Morehead, Kentucky; four sisters: Lillie Adkins of Elliott County, Kentucky, Bessie Hamm of North Carolina, Essie Kidd and Dina Stegall, of Morehead, Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.
A loving wife, mother, sister, and mamaw, Mrs. Woodrow was a homemaker and a member of Elliottville Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating; burial will follow in E. Trent Cemetery at Elliottville. Pallbearers will be Adam Wallace, Donnie Stevens, Sam Stegall, Bailey Woodrow, Zach Wallace, Joshua Wallace, and Daniel Stevens. Janice Kay Green Bettis
1941-2007
COLORADO - Janice Kay Green Bettis passed away early Tuesday morning of June 12, 2007 in a Medical center in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 65. Jan was born in Morehead, Ky. September 14, 1941, daughter to the late former Rowan County Sheriff Sam L. Green and wife Maude (Davis) Green. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mavis Ellington of Missouri, and one brother, "Bub" Sam L. Green Jr. of Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband of 44 years Art Bettis, a retired high rise construction worker, their daughters Bridgette Masten and her husband Walter, Shantel Bettis and her granddaughter River Dawn, all of Denver Colorado; two sisters, Leona Warren of West Liberty, Ky. and Shirley Farris of Riverside, Calif., a brother, Jimmy Green of Sturgeon, Missouri, and a wealth of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. Jan was a Breckenridge graduate of the class of ’59. A memorial service was held for her June 14, 2007 in Denver, Colorado. Jan will be missed by all who knew her and forever in the hearts of all who loved her.
Anna V. Gross Easterling
1917-2007
MOREHEAD - Anna V. Gross Easterling, age 90, of KY Hwy. 711, West Liberty, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 25, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
Born February 13, 1917, in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Dora Callahan Gross. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Easterling, in 1976; two sons, Eldon Easterling and Boyd Easterling, Jr.; and one grandson, Paul David Hardin.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Janice Easterling and James and Toni Easterling, all of West Liberty, Kentucky; two daughters, Joann Hardin and Sandi Ruth, both of Morehead, Kentucky; 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Easterling was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting and flowers.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Gary Madden and Dana Easterling officiating. Burial was in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were grandsons Phil Hardin, Gordon Hardin, Kenny Easterling, Rodney Easterling, Chris Easterling, J. R. Ruth, Dana Easterling, and Freddy Baldridge.
Visitation was Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Mark Taylor May
Mark Taylor May, 53, of Lexington passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center after a six-year battle with liver disease.
He is survived by his father and stepmother, Henry L. and Betty D. May of West Liberty.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the May Family Cemetery in Neal Valley, Kentucky. There is no visitation. Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.
