Lymon Beecher Jones
1915 – 2007
MOREHEAD – Lymon Beecher Jones, 91, of Wilmore, Kentucky formerly of Morehead passed away Thursday, June 21, 2007 in the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.
He was born on September 24, 1915 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a son of the late Willie G. and Martha Susan Mabry Jones.
Mr. Jones was a retired carpenter, a United States Army veteran having served during World War II and he was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lena Maggard Jones, one brother, Hermitt Jones and one sister, Ceolia Barker.
Survivors include two sisters, Kathleen Cole of Riverside, Ohio and Isoline Stidam of Dayton, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, June 24, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery. Full military rites were conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Nadean Plank
1926-2007
MOREHEAD - Nadean Plank, age 80, of U.S. 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007, at the home of her nephew and his wife, Tim and Cheryl Plank on Sunset Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky.
Born July 4, 1926, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Jake Plank and Rosa Butler Plank. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lorene Pendland and June Plank, and one brother, Elmo Plank.
Survivors include two sisters, Volena Evans and Tina Evans, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and several nieces and nephews.
Nadean retired from Martins Department Store, where she was an employee for many years, and was a former beautician. She was a member of Adams-Plank Church.
Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Adams-Plank Cemetery with Pastor Carlos Bowman officiating. Pallbearers will be Glenn Buckner, Jack Evans, Don Evans, Tim Plank, Joe Planck, and Bob Haney. There is no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Daisy Mae Nicholson Chaney
1931-2007
MOREHEAD - Daisy Mae Nicholson Chaney, age 76, of Circle Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, August 27, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born August 23, 1931, in Paoli, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Ollie Omer and Marie Hosa Nicholson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Alex Jordan McKenzie.
Mrs. Chaney is survived by her husband, Robert J. Chaney; one son, Jay (Eve) Chaney of Sparta, New Jersey; four daughters, Terri Lynn Chaney of Chesapeake, Ohio, Nancy McKenzie of Ashland, Kentucky, Jill Ann (Tim) Tobin of Albany, New York, and Janet (Brian) Salyers of Ashland, Kentucky; one sister, Mary Ehle of Anderson, Indiana; one brother, Omer Lee Nicholson of Paoli, Indiana; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Chaney was a former telephone operator in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2007, at Brown Cemetery with the Rev. Don Evans officiating. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals is caring for arrangements.
Herbert Ray Ferguson
1938-2007
MOREHEAD - Herbert Ray Ferguson, age 69, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Rowan County, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2007, at the Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
Born March 27, 1938, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Powell and Thelma Williams Ferguson.
He is survived by his lifelong companion, Shelba Chatt of Dayton, Ohio; one son, Bruce Ferguson of Louisville, Kentucky; two daughters, Rhonda Anderson of Martinsville, Indiana, and Valerie Ferguson of Louisville, Kentucky; and three sisters, Dorothy Gearhart and Bertha Gearhart, both of Morehead, Kentucky, and Nella Butler of Cullman, Alabama.
Mr. Ferguson was a former employee of McCall’s in Dayton and had been a construction worker and security guard.
Graveside services and interment will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2007, at Brown Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday, August 29, 2007, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Clara Johnson
1935-2007
Clara Johnson, 72, of 1720 Flemingsburg Rd., Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Britt Haven in Louisville, Kentucky. Born May 31, 1935 to the parents of Albert Earnest Richardson and Virginia (Jenny) Davis Richardson. She was proceeded in death by both her parents and four brothers Aubie Richardson, Claude Richardson, and Elmer Richardson all of Swords Creek Virgina, and Arnold Richardson of Salt Lake City Utah. She is survived by three children one daughter Brenda & husband Glen Lewis of West Liberty, Kentucky, two sons Jim Farmer & wife Shiela of New Albany, Ind. and Billy Hunt of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Three sisters, Pauline Miller and Katherine Messick of Swords Creek, Virginia, and Agnes Dickerson of Madison, Indiana. Two brothers Daniel and David of Swords Creek, Virginia, four grandchildren and seven great grand children. Funeral services will be conducted at the Honaker Funeral Home in Honaker,
Sharon Lynn Brown Estep

MOREHEAD - Sharon Lynn Brown Estep, age 44, of Cranston Road, Morehead, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born September 13, 1962, in Springfield, Ohio, she is the daughter of David Keeton of Carter County, Kentucky, and the late Joy Darlene Brown.
In addition to her father, Sharon is also survived by her husband, Burnest Allen Estep; one son, Colin Jeffery Estep, and two daughters, Laken Nicole Estep and Deanna Marie Estep, all of Morehead, Kentucky; and one sister, Dora Caruso of Parma, Ohio.
Sharon was a former waitress at Shoney’s of Morehead.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dean and the Rev. Cecil Ison officiating; burial was in the Estep Cemetery on Cranston Road. Pallbearers were nephews Waylon Brown, Eric Maher, Devin Estep, Kevin Estep, Stephen Pernell, Tim Richey, Joseph Estep, and Adam Dillon. Lillian Kate Meade McGary
1908-2006
MOREHEAD - Lillian Kate Meade McGary, 98, of Knapp Avenue, Morehead, KY, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006, at her home. Born January 19, 1908, in Castlewood VA, she was one of nine children of Robert Mack Meade and Sinia Necessary Meade. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers: Wood Meade and Thomas Meade and sisters: Bess Salyer, Margaret Phillips, Anne Ake, Eva Ervin, Blanche Campbell, and Frances Fletcher. Her husband, Lt. Col. Alvin McGary, whom she married
May 18, 1935, passed away April 18, 1980.
Mrs. McGary is survived by 2 daughters: Carol (Bill) Malone and Jean (Gary) Casper, all of Morehead, KY; 2 grandchildren: Kay (Rusty) Hedrick of Morehead, KY and William Mack Malone of Keller, TX; 3 great grandchildren: Katherine Lane, William Andrew, and Anna Grace Hedrick; and several nieces and nephews.
Lillian grew up on a farm in Russell County, VA, and graduated from Temple Hill High School in Castlewood, VA, in 1926. In 1929, Lillian graduated as a registered nurse from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in Lexington, KY and worked at Good Samaritan through 1930’s to early 1940’s as a floor supervisor and instructor of student nurses. In 1941, she joined her husband, who was stationed in Panama with the USAF, and never returned to nursing in a paid position, but spent the remainder of her life in various volunteer capacities caring for others.
In 1962, when Lt. Col. McGary retired from the USAF, they moved to Morehead where Lt. Col. McGary became maintenance director at Morehead State University. Lillian became involved in various community, university, and church activities. A member of Morehead First Baptist Church for over 40 years, she taught Sunday school for many years and was active in the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Morehead Woman’s Club, M.S.U. Women’s Club, KY Retired Teachers Association, Painted Hills Garden Club, and also volunteered at St. Claire Auxiliary, Pine Crest Auxiliary, American Red Cross, and Rowan County schools. She was a charter member of Chi Omega, Epsilon Theta Chapter at M.S.U.; the recipient of a 30-year service pin from the American Red Cross, the Lions Club Community Service Award, and the Family Services Volunteer of the Year at Sewart AFB, Smyrna, TN. Lillian’s interests and past times included sewing, antiquing, cooking, all kinds of hand crafts and needle work, painting, and gardening.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funeral Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don Mantooth and the Rev. Rusty Hedrick officiating; interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers: Jim Campbell, Meade Phillips, Ray White, Doug Jones, Fred Ellington, Wayne Willis and Bill Shely. Honorary pallbearers: John and Dot Collis, Liz and George Sadler, Earl and LeMerle Bentley, Jean Mack, Ruth Sturgill, Esther Allen, Barbara White, Belva Sammons and Billie Pierce. Billy Ewing Tackett
1930-2006
MOREHEAD - Billy Ewing Tackett, age 76, of Azalea Court, Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Mary Chiles Hospital in Mt. Sterling. Born April 4, 1930, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Herbert and Maude Caudill Tackett.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wilma J. Moore Tackett; three sons, Gregory Tackett and his wife Kathy of Farmersville, Ohio, Jeffery Tackett of Piketon, Ohio, and Robbie Tackett and his wife Melissa of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; one daughter, Melissa Chaney of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; two brothers, Milton Tackett of Coffeyville, Mississippi, and Roy Linville Tackett of Arcanum, Ohio; two sisters, Lillian Arrand of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Helen Jesse of Lincoln Park, Michigan; four grandchildren, Billy Tackett, Spencer Tackett, Austin King, and Kody Tackett; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Tackett and Paige Tackett.
Mr. Tackett was retired from Falcon Coal Company in Jackson, Kentucky. Following his retirement in 1985, he enjoyed woodworking, his dog Lucky, and visiting with family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the time of services at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Mary Jo Gevedon Thompson
1944-2006
MOREHEAD - Mary Jo Gevedon Thompson, age 62, of Heritage Place, Morehead, passed away Friday, October 20, 2006, at her residence. Born September 14, 1944, in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elijah W. Gevedon and Hester Mae Haney Gevedon. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Anthony Carl Thompson in 1968; three brothers, Homer, Jimmy, and Charles Gevedon; and two sisters, Eunice Black and Jean Benton.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Luman and Patricia Pardue, both of Nashville, Tennessee; four sons, William L. Thompson, Jr. of Wolfe County, Kentucky, James E. Thompson of Clearfield, Kentucky, Ronnie D. Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee and David Allen Thompson of Stanton, Kentucky; six sisters, Susan Peyton and Evelyn Gevedon, both of Morehead, Kentucky, Christine Schmidt and Lee Benton, both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, Janice Thompson of Crystal Lake, Illinois, and Betty Vinson of Owingsville, Kentucky; 23 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
Ms. Thompson was a homemaker and a member of the East End Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ray Glover officiating; burial was in the Grassy Lick Cemetery in Morgan County. Pallbearers were B. J. Thompson, Richard Thompson, J. R. Thompson, Gary Thompson, Allen Luman, Dylan Thompson, A. J.
