Roger Dale Brown
1965-2007
MOREHEAD - Roger Dale Brown, age 41, of Stark, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2007, at his residence.
He was born November 6, 1965, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and is the son of Darlene Winkleman Brown of Winkle Ridge in Elliott County, Kentucky, and the late Tommy Brown. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Mary Bowling Brown and Walter and Belle Winkleman.
In addition to his mother, Roger is survived by his fiancée, Marlene Hickman and her children, Lela Hickman and Derek Hickman; one son, Thomas Brown of Elliott County; one daughter, Angel Brown of Elliott County; one brother, Scottie Brown of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; one sister, Karen Roznowski of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was an employee of the Elliott County Board of Education. He had special talents with animals and especially enjoyed training horses and trail riding.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 12, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Michael Anderson officiating. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery on Stamper Ridge in Elliott County.
Pallbearers were Jerry Stamper, Harold Stamper, Richard Stamper, Buddy Allen Pennington, Curtis Winkle, Buddy Pennington, Ricky Winkleman, and Adam Howard.
Visitation was Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Nellie Johnson Keeton
1915-200
MOREHEAD - Nellie Johnson Keeton, age 92, of Oakdale Drive, Clearfield, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
Born June 1, 1915, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late James Johnson and Amanda Caudill Johnson Hollan. Her husband, Clyde Henry Keeton, preceded her in death on December 5, 1982.
Mrs. Keeton is survived by one son, Luther Carl Keeton and his wife Phyllis of Louisville; one brother, Oval Johnson and his wife Pauline of Morehead; one sister, Emma Hutchinson of Morehead; one sister-in-law, Jean Hollan of Morehead; two grandsons, Anthony Keeton and Randall Keeton; five great-grandchildren, Amy Keeton, Bethany Keeton, Robin Dean, Jessica Dean, and Evan Keeton; and one great-great granddaughter, Natalie Dean. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Nellie and her husband Clyde owned and operated Keeton’s Paint & Wallpaper in Morehead from 1948 until 1980. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Doug Keeton, Phillip Hollan, Nicholas Hollan, Jason Baldridge, Mark Langworthy, and James Langworthy.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Monday, August 13, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Blandena Kay Reynolds
TENNESSEE - Mrs. Blandena Kay Reynolds, age 71, of Tazwell died August 8, 2007 at Claiborne County Nursing Home. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Ivory Charles, and husband Virgil Louis Reynolds.
She is survived by her son Jeff Reynolds and wife Sara Lynne of Wares Valley, Tenn., daughters: Diane Welch and husband Ron of Tazewell, Tenn., Rhonda Fletcher and husband Ray of Knoxville, Tenn., brothers Winford Charles and wife Carolyn of Clearfield, KY, Don Charles and wife Shirley of Danville, Ind., grandchildren Michele Hubbard, Laura Helton, Emily Crowe, Jennifer Poston, Ryan Fletcher, and Ashleigh Stroup, great-grandchildren Shelby Lynn Hubbard, Haylea Jean Helton, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were in the Claiborne Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Duncan officiating. Music was provided by Janice Derreberry and Brenda Bolden. Burial followed in the Irish Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers: Bo Helton, Wesley Crowe, Bubba Poston, Brian Hubbard, Kevin Stroup, Kaden Atkins.

June Wells Voss
LOUISVILLE – June Wells Voss, 60, of Louisville, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 at Baptist Hospital East.
She was a native of Morgan County and a former Quality Consultant. She was a member of the Southeast Christian Church.
June was preceded in death by her parents, James Mitchell and Peggy Jones Wells.
She is survived by her husband of 11 years, Peer Voss; children, James David Timmons (Kerry) and Amey Timmons; sisters, Joan and Jill Wells; grandson, Jacob Michael Wells Timmons.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 13 at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, with burial at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Jean Hofstetter Besant
1935-2007
MOREHEAD - Jean Hofstetter Besant, age 71, of North Wilson Avenue, Morehead, KY, wife of Larry Besant, MSU Library Director Emeritus, died Thursday, May 10, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. She was born September 2, 1935, in DuQuoin, IL, daughter of the late Harry E. and Mary Maria Buettner Hofstetter. One brother, Harold E. Hofstetter, and one sister, Lynell Dunavan, preceded her in death.
Surviving, in addition to her husband Larry, are five children, Vicki Cameron of Columbus, OH; Lari Lizabeth Besant-Magdalenski of Evergreen, CO; Paul Xon Besant of Springfield, MO; Peter Kean Besant of Morehead, KY; and Mary Marjorie Besant of Denver, CO; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Bevin, Eva, Ben, Eliza, Noah, Gabe, Nathan, and Ella; one brother, Wayne Hofstetter of Highland Park, IL; sisters Mary Lou Morris and Aleda Brown of DuQuoin, IL, Veda Nederbrock of Rock Island, IL, and Beverly Hunter of Highland Park, IL.
Jean graduated with honors from Morehead State University and was active in civic and community organizations. A long time member of the Morehead Woman’s Club, she was a past president and for many years served as chairperson of various district and state committees. She also served as Deputy to KFWC State President Barbara Fossett. An active member of Chapter AA of P.E.O., she had served as Chaplain and Recording Secretary. Jean participated in Rowan County Christmas, was a member of the Veterans Day Planning Committee, served on Morehead Streetscape and the MSU Gala Committee. She was currently serving on the China Committee of Morehead Sister Cities. She was also an avid bridge player. Jean was an active member of Morehead United Methodist Church
Visitation is after 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2007, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with a funeral service to be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Monday with the Rev. Bruce Nettleton officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, IL.
Serving as pallbearers are Zachary and Bevin Arcaro, Eva and Eliza Magdalenski, Jay Morris, Kyle and Evan Patrick, and Matt Baldwin.

MOREHEAD - Ralf Garrett “Gary” Hillebrand, age 45, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, May 7, 2007, at his residence. He was born August 2, 1961, in Plankstadt, Germany, and is the son of the late Roland Lenhardt and Anita Gund White of Morehead, Kentucky, and stepson of Garrett A. Hillebrand of Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Hillebrand; one sister, Michelle Hillebrand; and stepfather, Tommy White.
Other survivors include his wife, Carolyn Swalgin Jordan Hillebrand; one daughter, Adrienne Hillebrand of Morehead, Kentucky; two stepdaughters, Tobi Brooks of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and Lauren Elizabeth Jordan of West Liberty, Kentucky; two step children, Jacob Hunter Jordan and Nathaniel Mason Jordan, both of West Liberty, Kentucky; one brother, Larry Hillebrand of Louisville, Kentucky; one half-brother, Anthony White of Morehead, Kentucky; one half-sister, Charlene Goodman of Niles, Ohio; his grandmother, Anna Heid of Morehead, Kentucky; and aunt, Ilona Heid of Morehead, Kentucky
Gary served in the U.S. Navy for three years and was currently enrolled at Maysville Community and Technical College, Rowan Campus, in Morehead.

Gregory S. Jent
1967-2007
INDIANA-Gregory S. Jent, 40, died Thursday, May 3, 2007, unexpectedly at his residence. He was born March 28, 1967 in Morehead, Kentucky, the son of Della Faye Perry and Delmer Curtis Jent.
Mr. Jent attended Rowan County High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard for thirteen years. Greg went to Muncie in 1986 and began work for a local landscaping company. He soon started working for Miller Tire Company, where he was employed as a manager for many years. He loved to drag race and enjoyed bowling, but most of all he loved spending time with his children. He is loved and will be missed by his whole family.
Survivors include his wife Melissa Jent; his father and stepmother Delmer Curtis & Billie Jo Matthews Jent; and his mother Della Faye Perry all of Morehead, Ky.; his four sons, Gregory Scott Jent II; J.D. Goble, Jeremy Jent and Ryan Jent; his two daughters, Alcia Goble and Bethany Jent all from Muncie, Ind.; his two brothers, Curtis Wayne Jent, (wife Melissa) and Christopher Lee Snipes from Morehead, Kentucky; his four sisters, Tina Faye Jent, Tiffany Nicole Jent, Rhonda Jo Kitchen, all from Morehead, Ky., and Stephanie Renea Kitchen of Sandy Hook, Ky. His brother-in-law Donald R. Thornburg Jr. and his sister-in-law Jessica Myrick also survive him. His in-laws Marty and Connie Miller of Florida; and Donald and Kathy Thornburg of Upland. His maternal and paternal grandparents preceded Gregory in death.
Services were conducted Monday, May 7, 2007 at 11:30 am at the Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel in Muncie, Ind. Burial was in the Tomlinson Cemetery.
William N. Lester, Jr.
1926-2007
MOREHEAD - William N. Lester, Jr., age 80, of Kentre Lane, Morehead, KY, a longtime resident of Phelps and Majestic in Pike County, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at the Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville, Kentucky. He was born September 4, 1926, in Mohawk, West Virginia, and was the son of the late William N. and Julie Hopkins Lester.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Smith Lester; four sons, Lonnie Ray (Debbie) Lester, Robert Lester, and Bill Lester, all of Columbus, Ohio, and David L. (Rebecca) Lester of Jeffersonville, Kentucky; one daughter, Catherine Cash of Columbus, Ohio; two stepsons, James Thomas (June) Smith and Frankie Edward Smith, all of Phelps, Kentucky; four stepdaughters, Joann (Larry) Moore, Lois Larkins, and Connie Smith, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Angela Hayes of Louisville, Kentucky; two sisters, Bernice Lester of Columbus, Ohio, and Lona Mae Wolford of Majestic, Kentucky; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lester served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and was a coal miner in Kentucky and West Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Visitation is at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 10, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
