Vernon L. Hall
1931-2009

MANSFIELD, OHIO - Vernon L. Hall, 78, of Mansfield, died early Friday morning, October 30, 2009, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He had been a resident of Mansfield Memorial Homes for two months.

Born May 22, 1931, in Clearfield, Kentucky, he was the son of Millard and Clona (Dillon) Hall.

Vernon was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He retired as a self-employed painter.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edith (DeWitt) Hall; three children, Patti (Gene) Jackson, Jeff L. (Sandy) Hall and Doug A. (Linda) Hall; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Janet Hedges and Gloria Morgan; a brother, Steve Hall; four sisters-in-law, Peachie Gregory, Inez Caudill, Betty Middleton and Geraldine (Garland) Roe; and many dearly loved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Friends may visit from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Mansfield. Funeral services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. in the Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church, 998 Laver Road, Mansfield, with Pastor Mark Bailey officiating. Friends may also visit from 12-1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to the family or Mansfield Freewill Baptist Church.

Johnnie Preston Hamm
1933-2009

MOREHEAD – Johnnie Preston Hamm, 76, of Cranston Road, passed away Saturday morning October 31, 2009 at his home after an illness of several weeks.

He was born on September 15, 1933 in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Jessie and Maude Burton Hamm.

Mr. Hamm was a retired sawmill worker, state highway employee and had formerly worked at the Frank Foundry Military Equipment Company in Muncie, Indiana. He attended the Limestone Apostolic Church in Lawton, Kentucky and enjoyed fishing, southern gospel music and raising a garden.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Vince Dwaine Hamm, two brothers, Eddie Chalmer Hamm and Andrew Eugene Hamm and a sister, Lillie Hamm Gibson.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lillie Stevens Hamm, one son, John Preston Hamm of Ewing, four daughters, Bertha Click and Debra Click both of Sandy Hook, Sandra Mosley of Garrison and Nora Lewis of Greenup, one daughter-in-law, Mary Hamm and four sons-in-law, John Lewis, Roscoe Click, Jr., Henry Click and Charley Mosley, two sisters, Mary Stacy of Morehead and Dreama Jones of McClure, Ohio, one brother, James Russell Hamm of Toledo, Ohio, twenty-three grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and two expected great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at the Adams-Plank Cemetery with Pastor Rick Crank officiating.

Pallbearers will be Timothy Plank, Jonathon Hamm, Reuben Click, Billy Click, Gerard Staton, Joshua Lewis, Aaron Staton and Zachariah Hamm and honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Mosley, Gerald Staton and Jessie Hamm.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements for Johnnie Preston Hamm.

Hobert E. (Buck) Thomas
1928-2009

MOREHEAD – Hobert E. (Buck) Thomas, 81, of U. S. 60 East, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009 at his home.

He was born on October 30, 1928 in Carter County, Kentucky, a son of the late Allie and Goldie Williams Thomas.

Mr. Thomas was a retired state highway department of transportation employee and a farmer. He was a member of the Soldier Church of God and enjoyed farming and working with his cattle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Thomas, Billy Thomas and Jimmie Thomas and two sisters, Juanita Lyons and Freda Thomas.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Deloris Bailey Thomas, whom he married on January 8, 1949, one daughter, Teresa Burton and her husband, Carlos of Morehead, three brothers, Bobby Thomas, Gary Thomas and Roger Thomas all of Morehead, five sisters, Mildred Bailey, Ruby Stevens, Kay Hall and Joanne Sturgill all of Morehead and Wilma Stevens McKeown of Hammond, Indiana, two grandchildren, Haley Sexton and her husband, Ryan and Jared Burton, two great-grandchildren, Harper Sexton and Brooklyn Sexton and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM. Thursday, November 5, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Gayle Price and Byron Hargett officating. Burial will follow in the New Sill Cemetery. Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday and anytime Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be Jared Burton, Allen Stevens, David Burton, Mark Burton, Harry Sparks and Brian Burton and honorary pallbearers will be Carlos Burton, Jr., Ray Bailey, Ryan Sexton, Roger Hilderbrand and Gerald Lyons.

Marion I. Caudill
1939-2007

MOREHEAD - Marion I. Caudill, age 68, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born July 4, 1939, at Cranston in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Arvel and Leta Ann Kelsey Caudill. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Ray Caudill.

Marion is survived by his wife of 42 years Judy Hall Caudill; one son, Brian Caudill and his wife Angie of Richmond, Kentucky; one daughter, Michelle Daugherty and her husband Don of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandsons, Kameron and Gabe Johnston and Kian, Sean, and Jonathan Daugherty; three brothers, Ronald “Pat” Caudill, Chester Caudill, and John Caudill, all of Morehead, Kentucky; five sisters, Edith Littleton, Vicky White, and Debbie Moore, all of Morehead, Kentucky; Cindy Durham of Dayton, Ohio, Gay Caudill of Lexington, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Marion was a retired employee of the Kentucky Department of Transportation and a deacon of the Little Perry Primitive Baptist Church.

Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Jimmy Adkins and Elder Tim Porter officiating; burial was in the Cranston Cemetery.

Grandson Kameron Johnston and Nephews Justin Caudill, Ryan Caudill, Kyle Caudill, Kevin Caudill, Buddy Caudill, Jamie Durham, and Wade Littleton served as pallbearers.

Visitation was Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Mildred Eileen Epperhart
1931-2007

MOREHEAD - Mildred Eileen Epperhart, age 76, of West Alexandria, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Vancrest Health Care Center in Eaton, Ohio.

Born July 24, 1931, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Wheeler Preston Epperhart and Nellie Gray Epperhart. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Elmo Epperhart; one sister, Helen Taylor; two sons, Derrick Ashley Smith and James Dana Smith, Jr., and one daughter, Rhonda Lynn Sizemore.

She is survived by one brother, Bill Epperhart of Morehead, Kentucky, and three sisters, Irene Lewis of Hillsboro, Kentucky, Jean Stevens of West Alexandria, Ohio, and Connie Allen of Dayton, Ohio.

Mildred retired from Inland Manufacturing, a division of General Motors, after 38 years of services.

A funeral service will be conducted noon Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation is Saturday, August 11, 2007, from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals is caring for arrangements.

James Ivan Plank
1960-2007

VIRGINIA - James Ivan Plank, age 47, of Roanoke, VA passed away Saturday, August 4, 2007 in his home. Born January 17, 1960, he was the son of Rose Carol (Hinton) Muse and the late Arthur Estel Plank. Ivan had been a cabinet maker.

Survivors include his wife Sherry Phillips Plank, two daughters, Kerri and Terri Plank; one son, Arthur Plank, also of Roanoke, Va.; four sisters, Judy Peake of Flemingsburg KY, Eva Jo (Charles) Henderson of Clearfield KY, Brenda (Bill) James of Farmers KY, Lynn Barnett of Clearfield KY and many nieces and nephews.

Plans for a memorial service are incomplete at this time.

Jessie Anderson
1921 – 2007

MOREHEAD – Jessie Anderson, 86, of Island Fork Road passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at his residence.

He was born on February 10, 1921 in Waltz, Kentucky, a son of the late Willie T. and Carrie Caudill Anderson.

Mr. Anderson was a farmer on his beloved farm on Island Fork, which was his greatest pleasure. He also worked for Local 1445 when the Tennessee Gas Plant was built on Route 377, was a former employee of the Morehead Utility Plant Board and served two terms as Rowan County Jailer. He was of the Church of God Faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses and cattle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delmer Anderson and Dallas Anderson and one grandson, Christopher Anderson.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mauk Anderson of Morehead, one daughter, Carolyn Webb and her husband, Ralph of Soldier, two sons, Jessie T. Anderson and his wife, Andrea and Jack R. Anderson and his wife, Janice all of Morehead, six brothers, Earl Anderson, Roy Anderson, Willie T. Anderson II, Lloyd Anderson and Claude Anderson all of Morehead and Clester Anderson of Anderson, Indiana, two sisters, Tina Ward of Wilmington, Delaware and Nina Bowman of Clearfield, six grandchildren, Cherri Keaton, Mike Webb, Brad Anderson, Jason Anderson, Leah Anderson and Jeremy Anderson and seven great-grandchildren, Chris Webb, Kayla Webb, Elyshia Webb, Lexan Gilbert, Madison Anderson, Alex Webb and Samantha Webb.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 18, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Charlie Riggs and Elder Cephas Littleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Hogge Cemetery at Cranston. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Friday.

Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
