Lucille Stevens
1912-2007
MOREHEAD – Lucille Scott Stevens, 94, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2007 in the Life Care Center.
She was born on October 30, 1912 in Farmers, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Thomas Hargis Scott and Alta Mae Snelling Scott.
Lucille retired from Morehead State University and was very active in the community and enjoyed helping others. She volunteered many hours in the school system and at St. Claire Regional Medical Center. She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Rebekah Lodge, White Shrine of Jerusalem, a past Noble Grand, Past President of the Democrat Club of Rowan County, Rowan County Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a Kentucky Colonel.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Stevens who passed away in 1983, one brother, Carl Scott, three sisters, Vera Anderson, Katherine Weigel and Ima Jean Scott and a grandson, Richie Sturgill who passed away in 1990.
Survivors include three sons, Don B. Stevens of Morehead, Larry A Stevens of Farmers and Roger L. Stevens of Franklin, Ohio, one daughter, Diana Stevens of Morehead, eight grandchildren, Lee M. Stevens, Mark S. Stevens, Paul B. Stevens, Chad L. Stevens, Lisa Stevens, Kimberly Barker, Jennifer Burwick and Natalie Stevens, five great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Allan Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Carey Hill Cemetery at Farmers.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
Contributions are suggested to the Carey Hill Cemetery Association. Donation envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Thomas Yancy
1939-2007
CLEARFIELD - Thomas L. Yancy, 68, of Scott Court, Clearfield, Kentucky, retired Associate Professor of Communications at Morehead State University, died Friday, September 21, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born May 29, 1939, in Tyler, Texas, he was the son of the late LeRoy and Mildred Dillard Yancy.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Judith O’Dell Yancy; one brother, Roy David Yancy of Florence, Alabama; one sister, Bettie Hedrick of Spring, Texas; three nephews, Jason Hedrick of San Marcos, Texas, Jeremy Hedrick of Spring, Texas, and Ronnie Yancy of Franklin, Kentucky; and one niece, Donna Schroeder of Sinton, Texas.
Mr. Yancy came to MSU in 1977 after working as a television producer at public stations at the University of West Florida, Ohio State University, State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport and the University of Texas. He won a regional “Emmy” from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and was honored by Morehead State in 2002 with the naming of the Thom Yancy Television Seminar Room at Breckinridge Hall. He retired from the University in 2001 with 24 years of service.
He held a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas where he held a lifetime membership in the “TexasExes” alumni organization and also held a master’s degree from MSU. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the Friends of KET (Kentucky Educational Television), Broadcast Education Association, American Film Institute and Alpha Epsilon Rho, national broadcast honor society. He was the recipient of a fellowship from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War Era having served in counter intelligence in Germany.
He was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Flemingsburg, Kentucky, where he served as a licensed lay reader and chalice bearer.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, September 24, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Suit officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers were Roy Yancy, Kenneth Hedrick, Jason Hedrick, Jeremy Hedrick, Don Adams, Dr. Travis Lockhart, John Osborne, Jim Weathers, and Keith Kappes. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. C. Nelson Grote, Dr. Jack Wilson, Dr. Richard Dandeneau, Frank Hubbard, Tim Ashmore, Ronnie Yancy, Kirby Kappes, Kenley Kappes, Kody Kappes, and Kory Kappes.
Visitation was Sunday, September 23, 2007, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Edna Mae Pack Burns
1916-2007
MOREHEAD - Edna Mae Pack Burns, age 90, of Knapp Avenue, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, February 3, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born July 12, 1916, in Boyd County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin H. and Bertha Spears Pack. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Pack. George William (Bill) Burns, the father of her children, passed away August 10, 2001.
Mrs. Burns is survived by one son, Dan Michael (Martha) Burns of Nevis, West Indies; two daughters, Pamela Girten of Louisville, Kentucky, and Billye Jo (Virgil) Spaulding of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; one sister, Leola Crider of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; and three grandchildren, Darren Green, Rev. David V. Spaulding, and Denise Spaulding.
Mrs. Burns was the former co-owner of Burns Department Store and owned and operated the Style Shoppe for many years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David V. Spaulding officiating; burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Robert “Bob” Dale Myers
1932-2007
GEORGIA - Robert “Bob” Dale Myers, 74, a native of Farmers, Kentucky, a resident of Pooler, Georgia passed on February 6, 2007 at Hospice of Savannah after a short battle with cancer. He was born February 21, 1932 to Mrs. Lillian Myers (now deceased) in Farmers.
After graduating from Morehead High School he served four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After the war he attended Moorhead College for three years, and then moved to Florida to work at Cape Canaveral. After moving to Georgia, Bob worked for Iron Workers Local 709 when he met and married
his wife of 41 years, Myrna Y. Myers.
Bob enjoyed racing, fishing, and telling his infamous tall tales and funny jokes to family and friends. He has many family members who will miss his unique presence.
He is survived by his wife Myrna, (1) son Robert (Robbie) L. Myers (Sandra Myers), (3) daughters, Marsha Harmon (Jim Haskins), Joann Purvis (Mark Purvis), C. Denise Eubanks (Larry Powell). Grandchildren: Lanette and David Harmon, Lori Lee, Michael and Jay Jackson, Ashlie McClintic, Chasiti Pritchard, Emma Smith, Sean and Holly Myers. Great Grandchildren: David, Makayla, Nicole, Amber, Michael, Rossi, Bryan, Logan, Astera, and Macy – “She was the special joy in the last weeks of his life.” He is also survived by a cousin, Mildred Burnette of Farmers, Kentucky.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fairhaven Funeral Home.
Graveside Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at the Helmey Family Cemetery, on Hwy 30, at the Berea United Methodist Church.

Charles B. Thompson
1931-2007
MOREHEAD - Charles B. Thompson, age 76, of Morehead, Kentucky, died Monday, February 5, 2007, at his residence. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Taylor Thompson, and their children, Linda Baber and her husband Mark of Richmond, Virginia, David M. Thompson and his wife Susan of Raceland, Kentucky, and Jana Jenson and her husband Tyler of Lawrenceville, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Veronica Thompson, Eric Thompson, Flynn Thompson, and Jackson Pittson.
Born January 10, 1931, in Winona, Mississippi, to Jimmie and Grace Bond Thompson, Charlie is also survived by a sister, Eloise Jones of Knoxville, Tennessee, and a brother, Morris Thompson of Starkville, Mississippi.
Dr. Thompson was a Professor of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at Morehead State University for 32 years. In 1996, he received the “Distinguished Service Award” from the Kentucky Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. Prior to coming to Morehead, he taught at Union College in Barbourville, and worked as the director of the boys’ program at the YMCA in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He received his B. S. and M. A. degrees from the University of Tennessee and his Doctor of Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He was a very active member of the Morehead United Methodist Church and served in many positions. He helped start the “Merry Mixers, ” a senior citizens group, and the annual men’s golf tournament, “Fore-the-Lord.”
During his retirement, Charlie--an avid Tennessee fan-- enjoyed visiting with his family, his grandchildren, and traveling.
Visitation was Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2007, at the Morehead United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Nettleton officiating. Burial was in Lee Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Davis, Johnnie Fryman, Chuck Gilley, Dana Greenfield, Paul Ousley, Reggie Overton and Dave Saxon.

Harold G. Ellington
MOREHEAD - Harold G. Ellington, 84, of Elon, North Carolina formerly of Morehead passed away Sunday in the Hospice Home in Burlington, North Carolina.
He was the husband of Pauline McBrayer Ellington.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 14, at the Morehead First Church of God.
Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M. Wednesday at the church.
