Born in Pike Co., Billy was the son of the late Woodrow and Verlie Tackett Akers. He was a carpenter and a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the Army.

Two sons: Bobby Scott (Dayna) Akers of Fredericksburg, VA and Billy Shannon (Nikki) Akers of Kodak, TN
Three brothers: Bobby Ray Akers of Island Creek, Rickie (Barbara) Akers of Harolds Branch and Larry Donald (Cathy) of Kindle, NY
Five grandchildren: Casen Akers, Caiden Akers, Tiana Akers, Zachery Akers, and Kaiya Akers
Wanda Decelia Powers Brown Peters Christy
1935-2006
Wanda Decelia Powers Brown Peters Christy, age 70, of Lois Lane, Morehead, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. Born December 18, 1935, in Delaware, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Earl Calvin Powers and Carrie May Dickey Powers. Her husbands, Leslie Brown, Paul Peters, and Dennie Christy preceded her in death. In addition to her husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter.
Wanda is survived by four children: Decelia (Terry) Grubaugh Sr., of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Daniel (Karen) Brown of Vanceburg, Kentucky, Dwayne (Jane) Brown of Morehead, Kentucky and William (Shona) Peters of Clearfield, Kentucky; seven grandchildren: Terry (Jessica) Grubaugh, Jr., Miya Madden, Clorisha Peters and Hannah Peters, all of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Danielle Brown of Vanceburg, Kentucky, Mikie Brown and Elizabeth (Sissy) Brown, both of Morehead, Kentucky; two great grandchildren: Logan Grubaugh and Seth Madden, both of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; and her baby “Snuggles.” Also surviving are 7 stepchildren; 19 step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and many friends including a special friend, Marty Johnson.
A 1954 graduate of Frank B. Willis High School in Delaware, Ohio and Columbus (Ohio) Business University in 1957, Wanda moved to Kentucky in 1982 and came to Morehead in 1985. She was co-owner of Christy’s Bait & Tackle and was a former restaurant employee.
Wanda was a longtime volunteer for several organizations. Since 1979, she was a volunteer for the Disabled Americans Veterans Association and by April, 2003, had driven more than one million miles in her personal vehicle transporting veterans. She was an original member of Habitat for Humanity in Rowan County; a member of the Rowan County Rescue Squad since 1987; a member of Rebekah Lodge since 1951, she had served as Past Noble Grand three times, Past District Deputy President, and District President. She was a member and past president of LAPM 95; a lifetime member of FFA since 1982; and a lifetime member of the American Legion. Wanda was a Kentucky Colonel, Kentucky Admiral, and Honorary Member of National FFA. She was awarded the Key to the City of Morehead in January, 2002. Wanda was a member of Cathedral of Praise. A loving mother, devoted grandma, one special “granny” and friend to all, Wanda will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, November 19, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals with the Rev. David L. Crouch and Pastor Scott Tipton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Members of the Rowan County Rescue Squad will serve as pallbearers. Visitation is after 5 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Timothy F. Higgins
MOREHEAD - Timothy F. Higgins, beloved husband of Myrla Higgins, devoted father of Byon Higgins, loving son of Jim and Libby Higgins, son-in-law of Dolores A. Bermas, of Cincinnati. Myrla and Tim have a very large extended Filipino family. Tim and family recently moved to Morehead, KY. He graduated from Walnut Hills High School and University of Cincinnati and Webber State University in Utah. He started his own Rehab business and in the course of working helped many young people learn a trade and become skilled workers. He was a dedicated father to Byon and worked with him in the Boy Scouts and school events, and was so proud of him. Tim had the ability to make friends with everyone. He will be greatly missed by many dear friends. On Monday, November 13, 2006, his life was tragically taken by a car accident at the age of 49.

Pat Osborn
Patricia Ann “Pat” Osborn, 79, of Vevay, Ind., died Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center at Vevay.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Compton of Hillsboro.
Services are set for Saturday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home at Vevay.
Nell Bevins Hatcher
Age: 84
Visitation: Visitation will be in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel, Friday from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.
Funeral Service: Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 in the J.W. Call Funeral Home Chapel with John Lucas officiating.
Interment: Burial will follow in the Johnson Memorial Park at Pikeville, Kentucky.
Nell Bevins Hatcher, age 84, of Pikeville passed away, Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at her home.
She was a Homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pikeville.
She was born at Borderland, West Virginia, on May 31, 1927 the daughter of the late George Conder and Lena May Bevins.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Thomas Hatcher and one brother, Dr. Robert H. Bevins and one sister, Ruth Reid.
She is survived by one son, Bruce Leslie Hatcher of Lexington, Ky. and one daughter, Jan Hatcher (Ira Wohl) of Los Angeles, CA.
She is also survived by one sister, Geraldine Haywood of Chattanooga, TN and two grandchildren, Anastasia Wohl and Jason Hatcher.

Orville Chester Helterbrand
1918-2007
MOREHEAD - Orville Chester Helterbrand, age 88, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2007, at the Life Care Center in Morehead. Born October 20, 1918, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William H. Helterbrand and Jenny Frances Fraley Helterbrand. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Plank, and two brothers, Lloyd Helterbrand and Les Helterbrand.
Orville is survived by four nieces, Maxine Nickell of Mansfield, Ohio, Ivetta Caudill, Patty Caudill, and Vickie Rivers, all of Morehead and four nephews, Alex Helterbrand, Delmar Plank, Jimmy Helterbrand, and Richard Helterbrand, all of Morehead.
Mr. Helterbrand graduated from Berea College and was a former teacher in one-room schools at Clearfork and Stacy Hollow in Rowan County.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Don Rivers and Rev. Harold Nickell officiating. Burial will follow in Adams Plank Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Charles Stacy, Larry Littleton, Milton Helterbrand, Tod Plank, Dale Plank, Keith Plank, Delmar Plank, and Jimmy Henderson.
Rosa Ellen Hyatt Dailey Porter
1918-2007
MOREHEAD - Rosa Ellen Hyatt Dailey Porter, age 88, of Clayton Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 26, 2007, at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born October 18, 1918, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Troy Mitchell Hyatt and Ella Lindey Cooper Hyatt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ira Dailey on January 20, 1959; two sons, Vernon Paul Dailey and Billy Joe Dailey; two brothers, Mitchell Hyatt and William Hyatt; and two grandsons, Ricky Dailey and Curtis Brown.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Porter; six sons, Estill (Louise) Dailey of Statesboro, GA, and Donnie (Lisa) Dailey of Springfield, GA; Audrey Harold Dailey, Ira Jr. (Charlotte) Dailey, Larry (Cindi) Dailey, Timothy (Rebecca) Dailey, all of Morehead, KY; four daughters, Shirley (James) Flynn of Charlestown, IN, Brenda (Curtis) Brown of Xenia, OH, Elaine (Scott) Cummins of Fleming County, KY, Penny (William) McGuire of Olive Hill, KY; two brothers, George Hyatt of Rowan County, KY and Loren Hyatt of Rarden, OH; and three sisters, Rene Cassidy of Perrysburg, OH, Emma Markwell of Grayson, KY, and Christine Butler of Morehead, KY. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Rosa was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and mamaw and a friend to everyone she met. She retired from Morehead State University in 1983. Rosa loved the Lord and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Christian Church and attended Wallingford Christian Church.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2007, at Mt. Pisgah Christian Church with Rev. Tom Redmon, Rev. Charlie Hamm and Rev. James DeAtley officiating; burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Grandchildren served as pallbearers.
Visitation was Saturday, January 27, 2007, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Fred Caudill
1913 - 2006
MOREHEAD - Fred Caudill, 93, of Fern Creek, Kentucky formerly of Morehead passed away Monday, November 6, 2006.
He was born on July 29, 1913 in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late W. T. and Eliza Belle Messer Caudill.
Mr. Caudill was a former coach, teacher and administrator in the Rowan County and Jefferson County Public School Systems. He retired as principal of Fern Creek Elementary School where he served for over 20 years. Mr. Caudill was a former clay miner/broker in Haldeman. He was a United States Veteran having served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and as a civilian instructor for the Navy. He was a member of the Living Hope Baptist Church and the Morehead State University Alumni Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Stewart Caudill who passed away on August 17, 1995, two brothers, Ezra ("Shady") Caudill and William Caudill and five sisters, Carrie Holbrook, Lyda Marie Caudill, Anna Pearl Whitney, Hattie Maynard and Stella May Catron.
Survivors include his half-sister, Leola Hurst and several nieces and nephews, including, Kay Stout and Dr. Marc Holbrook.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, November 10, 2006 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery. Visitation is after noon Friday.
