Barbara Sue Tackett Kiser
1948-2010
MOREHEAD – Barbara Sue Tackett Kiser, age 61, of Maher Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, January 11, 2010, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.
Born November 18, 1948, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Dorothy Wilburn Tackett.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Timothy Dee Kiser, whom she married
August 15, 1986. Also surviving are special friends, Marie and David Whitt, and Cricket and Tommy Stacy, all of Morehead, Kentucky.
Barbara was a certified nursing assistant for many years at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens with Elder Cephas Littleton officiating.
Pallbearers were Wayne Kiser, Bob Kiser, Tommy Stacy, Brandon Stacy, Cody Stacy, and Ray White.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Naomia Phyllis (Crisp) Smith
1936-2010
OHIO - Naomia Phyllis (Crisp) Smith, 73, died Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Milcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A waitress for many years, Naomia was previously employed with Frisch's for over 30 years in Winter Park, Fla. She was a fan of football and NASCAR and was a dedicated grandmother. She was born December 28, 1936 on Morehead, KY to the late Estill and Ethel Lewis Crisp and was also predeceased her husband of 49 years, Harold Eugene Smith; a sister- Regina (Crisp) King, a brother-Donald Crisp and 2 sons-in law, Tracy Lee Miller and Larry Michael Ford.
She is survived by her children Sharon Kim Irwin & husband David Irwin of Huntington, W.Va., Marla Gaye Miller of Chesapeake Oh, Lisa Lynn Burns and Husband Keith Burns of Oceanside CA; grandchildren, Jeffrey Burns, Allan Burns, Laurel Burns of Oceanside CA, Michael Miller of Chesapeake Ohio; Sisters Jody Morris and husband Willie, Sue Sharp, Avonda Hoffman; Brothers, Chalmer Crisp & wife Ruth, Freddy Crisp & wife Margie, Tony Crisp and wife Denise; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held noon Saturday, Jan. 16 at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville, Ohio 43040.

Bertha Newell Prewitt Wallace
1942-2010
MOREHEAD – Bertha Newell Prewitt Wallace, age 67, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born April 24, 1942, in Bourbon County, Kentucky, daughter of William Jennings Bryan Prewitt and Sophia Wilson Prewitt. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Emma Prewitt, and three brothers, Bryan Prewitt, Strauter Prewitt, and Tommy Prewitt.
Bertha is survived by her husband of 33 years, Clarence Wallace, whom she wed November 27, 1976; one stepson and his wife, Robert Scott and Joy Lynn Wallace of Lexington, Kentucky; one step grandson, Cameron Tret Wallace and his mother, Tammy Knowles, both of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.
Other survivors include four brothers, Bertha’s twin, Roger Prewitt of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, Davis Prewitt of Vienna, Illinois, Albert Prewitt and Catesby Prewitt, both of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; six sisters, Bernice McCall of Winchester, Kentucky, Bettye Soper and Ann Wills, both of Paris, Kentucky, Eileen Culbertson of Lexington, Kentucky, Lillie Roberts of Chester, Virginia, and Jane Martin of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.
Bertha served as secretary to Fleming County Judge Executive Jewell D. Call for nine years and was an employee of the U.S. Shoe Corporation for twelve years. She was very active in the Democratic Party, was a Kentucky Colonel, and for many years a fundraiser for the Hillsboro Fire Department and other organizations. She was also the recipient of the Champ Clark Rooster Booster Award.
Bertha was a loyal member of the Owingsville First Church of God and Women of the Church of God for more than twenty years.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Owingsville First Church of God with the Rev. Lowell C. Rice and the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Morehead, Kentucky.
Pallbearers: James Prewitt, Blake Prewitt, Gabe Prewitt, Aaron Prewitt, A. J. Prewitt and Matthew Prewitt.
Visitation is after1 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro and after 1 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010, at the Owingsville First Church of God.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Owingsville First Church of God Scholarship Fund, 320 Slate Avenue, Owingsville, KY 40360.
Ronald Allen Adkins
1953-2009
MOREHEAD – Ronald Allen Adkins, age 55, of Bradley Hollow, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 14, 1953, in New Castle, Indiana, son of Hobert Adkins of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and the late Sadie Lucille Keeton Adkins. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tony Jay Adkins, and one nephew, Bradley Michael Neal.
In addition to his father, Ronnie is survived by three sisters, Patricia Ann Adkins and Diana Sue Adkins, both of Louisa, Kentucky, and Debra Lynn Adkins of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three nephews, Jamie Ray Adkins, Daniel Allen Adkins, and Matthew Taylor Adkins; and one great-nephew, Jamie Ray Adkins, Jr.
He was a carpenter.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2009, at the Bradley Cemetery, Soldier, Kentucky, with the Rev. Phillip Fraley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Ray Adkins, Sr., Daniel Allen Adkins, Matthew Taylor Adkins, Brian Stevens, Bill Bays, and David (Buck) Caudill.
Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
Katherine Cogswell Brown
1915-2009
MOREHEAD – Katherine Cogswell Brown, 94, of Owingsville passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Ridgeway Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility after an illness of several weeks.
She was born on March 27, 1915 in Cogswell, Kentucky, which is now the Cave Run area in Rowan County. She was the 8th child of nine children born to Joseph Pierce Cogswell and Mary Eliza Alfrey Cogswell. Mrs. Brown was a descendent of John Cogswell of New England, which made her the 12th generation in America! Early pioneers, the Cogswell family came to Kentucky in 1787. Other early Kentucky pioneers in Mrs. Brown’s lineage include the family names of Alfrey, Beadle, Hopkins, Johnson, Lewis, Manley, McKenzie, Phelps and Ramey.
Mrs. Brown seen the world change so much in her 94 years, from the horse and buggy log cabin days, to seeing man walk on the moon, not to mention the incredible technology that has revolutionized our society today. In a day when few graduated, Mrs. Brown was determined to get her education. She attended Alfrey School in the community and then had to walk 10 miles round trip to attend Farmers High School. She received High School scholarships and attended Morehead State Normal School (now Morehead State University). When Mrs. Brown was 21 years old, she received her High School diploma from Paul Blazer in Ashland, Kentucky.
In 1943 she married
her business partner, Charles Raymond Brown of Anderson, Indiana. The Browns owned grocery stores in Newcastle and Anderson, Indiana. They also were farmers during most of their marriage, lastly owning a farm in Bath County. Although Katherine Cogswell Brown had lived in Indiana, Michigan, and California, Kentucky was her home.
She was a member of the Morehead First Church of God and enjoyed music, gardening, flowers and reading the Bible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Raymond Brown, who passed away on December 16, 1971, three brothers, Fred Cogswell, William Cogswell and Paul Cogswell and five sisters, Gretna Armstrong, May Roberts, Melvie Carpenter, Sally Johnson and Estelle Lewis.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Jo Willey McKenzie and her husband, Charles Ray of Owingsville, two granddaughters, Tammy Jo Kerney and her husband, Mark and Jennifer Lynn Bowell and her husband, Doug, six great-grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Kerney Weldon and her husband, Tim, Gary Joseph Kerney, Christyn Paige Kerney, Alden Michael Kerney, Morgan Ashton Bowell and Chase Douglas Bowell and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Midland First Church of God with Rev. Lowell Rice and Rev. Guy McKenzie officiating. Burial was in the New Alfrey Cemetery at Farmers.
Pallbearers were Michael Lee McKenzie, James Carpenter, Billy Joe Cogswell, David Lee McKenzie, Fred Gaskill and Joe Eddie McKenzie and honorary pallbearers were Gary Henry Willey, Gary Joseph Kerney and Marvin Clifton.

Faye Carey
1917-2009
OHIO - Carey, Faye (Johnson), 91 of Monroe passed away on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Mt. Pleasant Ret. Village.
She was born on October 14, 1917 in Zilpo, Kentucky. She was a home maker and also worked for approximately 6 years as a Bank Teller for the Winter’s Bank. She attended the Breiel Blvd. First Church of God and was a member of the DORCAS (Quilting) Circle.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Hanson Carey in 1997, her parents; Alfred “Aqua” & Cordelia (Jones) Johnson, a sister; Etta Poynter and two brothers; Ova & Audrey “Art” Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter; Deborah Carey of Monroe, her nieces and nephews; Lois Watts of North Sutton, NH, Barbara McEvoy of Springboro, OH, Cheryl Bayless of Beavercreek, OH and Douglas Johnson of Scottsdale, AZ, her sister-in-law; Mary Johnson of Beavercreek, OH and other great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 from 1:30 pm-2:30 pm at the Woodside Cemetery Chapel @ 1401 Woodside Blvd. Middletown, OH with a Celebration of Life Service also there on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Eric Newell officiating. Entombment will be in the Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum.
