Dr. Joseph Anthony Virzi II
1936-2009
JACKSONVILLE – Dr. Joseph Anthony Virzi II, a prominent Jacksonville psychiatrist, and father of Marisa (Ray) White of Morehead, KY, passed away at age 72 on June 12, 2009 in Jacksonville, FL.
Born July 19, 1936 in Chicago, IL he was the only child of the late Joseph A. Virzi and Lena Pepitone Virzi.
Dr. Virzi was a 1954 graduate from Fenwick HS in Oak Park IL, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. After graduating cum laude from Loyola University and Loyola Stritch School of Medicine in 1962, he completed his residency at Illinois State Psychiatric Institute in 1966, where he also served as Chief Resident.
He was a Lt. Commander in the US Navy and began his professional career in Jacksonville FL, establishing the first psychiatric practice in Clay County. In 1976 Dr. Virzi founded Oak Center, the city’s first psychiatric day treatment program, leading the way to accreditation by JCAHO for partial hospitalization and was elected to the board of the National Association for Partial Hospitalization.
Dr. Virzi held two board certifications with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He was a diplomat of the American Psychiatric Association and became a Life Fellow in 2000. He was also a diplomat of the American College of Forensic Examiners. He has held many offices and chaired numerous committees, including President-Elect of the Florida Psychiatric Society, President of the Jacksonville Psychiatric Society and Vice President of the Jacksonville Coalition for Mental Health. He was also President and Founder of the Florida Partial Hospitalization Association.
In addition to his professional affiliations, he enjoyed several societies and clubs of Jacksonville and was a member of Deerwood Country Club, The River Club, Ponte Vedra Club, University Club and Serenata Beach Club.
In 1998 Dr. Virzi retired from the residential treatment setting to open a private practice in the Southside of Jacksonville until 2006 when he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He then retired permanently to spend more time with his wife Maria, children, grandchildren, and cherished dog “Bella, ” who did not leave his side throughout his long illness.
Dr. Virzi is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Maria (Trivelli) Virzi. He is also survived by his children, Diana (Joseph) Fargardo, Marisa (Ray) White, and Joseph (Cathryn). He leaves many grandchildren, Laura, Maria, and Ray White, Morgan Sourbrine, Maya and Stella Virzi. Dr. Virzi is further survived by his brother-in-law Mauro (Rosemary) Trivelli, nieces Julie and Jennifer, and nephew Michael.
A mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd., Jacksonville, FL, on Monday, June 15, 2009, at 11:00 AM.
A final Memorial will be held in Chicago, IL, at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. The date will be announced at a later time.

Wilford Ray Brown
1932-2009
MOREHEAD – Wilford Ray Brown, 76, of Flatwoods formerly of Morehead passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born on October 31, 1932 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late George and Sadie Clark Brown.
Mr. Brown was a retired Master Sergeant for the United States Air Force. He served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. Mr. Brown was a flight engineer on several flights for dignitaries and high ranking officials and he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was also retired from Brown Metal Spinning in Eaton, Ohio.
Mr. Brown was a member of the Greenup Christian Church, a Kentucky Colonel and a volunteer at the Flatwoods Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed working on clocks, gardening, canning and airplanes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Patsy Lee Carter Brown who passed away in 2001, two brothers, Willie Brown and Ernest Brown and four sisters, Grace Yoder, Geraldine Crum, Wilma Hadwin and Flora Logan.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Brown of Flatwoods, two daughters, Tami Wellman and her husband, Scott and Cindy Wassom and her husband, Jeffrey all of Eaton, Ohio, three brothers, Harold Brown, Claude Brown and Fred Brown all of Morehead, three sisters, Geneva Whittle and Juanita Cooper both of Morehead and Madeline Sewell of Muncie, Indiana, ten grandchildren, Emily Wassom, Eli Wassom, Elaina Wassom, Ben Wellman, Daniel Wellman, Hannah Wellman, Ruth Wellman, Nicolas Wellman, Rebecca Wellman and Joshua Wellman and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 18, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Homer Bradley officiating. Burial was in the Clark Cemetery at Cranston.
Full military honors were conducted at the graveside by the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard, who also be served as pallbearers.

Virgil Eldridge
1919-2009
MOREHEAD – Virgil Eldridge, age 89, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Sharkey, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born August 4, 1919, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Henry and Maggie Markwell Eldridge. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. His wife, Lena Gregory Eldridge, passed away on June 10, 1988.
He is survived by four daughters, Shirlene Phillips, Joanie (Terry Barnes) Eldridge, and Janet Eldridge, all of Lexington, Kentucky, and Mona (Jody) Craigo of Greenville, South Carolina; three sons, Bobby (Patty) Eldridge of Morehead, Kentucky, Paul Eldridge of Lexington, Kentucky, and Mark (Mary Jo) Eldridge of Lakeland, Florida; two sisters, Opal Eldridge of Frankfort, Kentucky, and Virginia Henson of Morehead, Kentucky; two brothers, Henry Eldridge, Jr. of Winchester, Kentucky, and Donald Eldridge of Ringos Mill, Kentucky; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer and a bus driver for the Rowan County schools for twenty years. He was a faithful member of the Poplar Spring United Baptist Church for 55 years. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Elder Theodore Evans, Elder Chester Adkins, and Elder Lawrence Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Eldridge Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Will Redington, Brad Eldridge, Brent Eldridge, Donnie Phillips, Daryl Phillips, and Kevin Phillips.

Wanetta Ward Setser
1916-2009
MOREHEAD – Wanetta Ward Setser of Green Valley Acres, Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Van Lear, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Auxier, Kentucky, on February 28, 1916, to James Oliver and Sarah Agnes Ward, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Frank Setser, and one brother, Quentin Ward.
She is survived by one sister, Carlis Butcher of Van Lear, Kentucky; two sons, Howard (Jo Anne) Setser of Morehead, Kentucky, and James Lowell (Mary Helen) Setser of Marietta, Georgia; three granddaughters, Elizabeth (Michael) Berry of May’s Lick, Kentucky, Kimberly (Chad) Cochran of Atlanta, Georgia, and Linda (Steve) Campisi of Acworth, Georgia; three grandsons, David (Ellen Vos) Setser of Boston, Massachusetts, James Anthony Setser of Kennesaw, Georgia, and Scott Setser of Fort Worth Texas; seven great grandchildren Christopher, Thomas, and William Campisi, Whitney Vos, Jacob and Joshua Berry, Katherine Cochran; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Setser, a life-long Christian, was a member of the First Christian Church of Paintsville, Kentucky. She was a graduate of Van Lear High School and attained BA and MA degrees, and Rank I certification in elementary education from Morehead State University. After several years of teaching in a one-room country school in Johnson County, Kentucky, she continued her career at Porter Elementary, until she retired in 1980.
During her retirement, Mrs. Setser became an avid quilter and delighted in presenting each of her children and grandchildren with a beautiful quilt for Christmas. She also enjoyed raising beautiful flowers both indoors and in her yard and during her last years especially enjoyed bird watching from her easy chair.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Bruce Nettleton beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with burial to follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Setser, James Anthony Setser, Scott Setser, Michael Berry, Allen Risk, and Larry Dillon.
Visitations will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 19, and on Saturday, June 20, one hour prior to funeral services at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Morehead United Methodist Church Building Fund, 227 W. Main Street, Morehead, KY 40351.
James V. Thompson Jr.
1948-2009
MOREHEAD – James V. Thompson, Jr., age 60, of Stacy Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2009, at his residence.
He was born October 7, 1948, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and is the son of Juanita R. Briles Thompson of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late James V. Thompson, Sr.
James is survived by his wife, Judy Stacy Thompson; four sons, James Virgil Thompson III, Timothy W. (Yvonne) Thompson and Jeremiah Joseph (Stephanie) Thompson, all of Morehead, Kentucky, and Terry James Thompson of Abilene, Texas; two stepsons, Anthony (April) Stacy of Morehead, Kentucky, and Robert D. (Leslie) Stacy of Gainesville, Florida; one brother, Richard Glennis (Sue) Thompson of McKinney, Texas; one sister, Deborah (Talmadge Jr.) Lewis of Georgetown, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; mother-in-law, Linda Stacy; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; and nieces and nephews.
James served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a former welder with Trinity Industries in Mt. Orab, Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mike Nickell and the Rev. Carlos Bowman officiating. Burial will follow in the Adams-Plank Cemetery with full military rites conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
Pallbearers will be James Thompson, Timothy Thompson, Jeremiah Thompson, Anthony Stacy, Robert Stacy, and Richard Thompson.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Clifton Ray Daulton, Sr.
1940-2009
MOREHEAD – Clifton Ray Daulton, Sr., 68, of Houston, Texas formerly of Fleming County, Kentucky, departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas after an illness of several weeks.
He was born on November 8, 1940 in Ringos Mill, Kentucky to Mrs. Elsie Ratliff Daulton of Flemingsburg and the late Elbert Clifton Daulton.
He was married
on July 27, 1968 to Anna Lee Applegate in Mason County, Kentucky.
He retired in 1994 from a life on the road as a truck driver for the Kroger Company. In his younger years, Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting pool. In his later years, Ray loved taking trips with his grandchildren and watching his favorite sport, NASCAR with his sons and grandson.
Those left to treasure his many memories are his wife of 40 years, Anna Lee, son and daughter-in-law, Ray Jr. and Deana, son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Gretchen, his only grandson, Justin and his three granddaughters, Laura, Kaitlyn and Erin. He is also survived by his mother, Elsie Ratliff Daulton of Flemingsburg and his two sisters, Janie McClain of Hillsboro and Marietta Daulton of Ohio.
Ray had a big heart and loved to help people. He lived life to the fullest and will be greatly missed. The world is a better place for having him here for 68 years.

He was laid to rest with full military honors in the Hillsboro Cemetery by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.
