Michael Lee Herron
1969-2008

FLORIDA – Michael Lee Herron, 39, of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008.

He was born August 2, 1969 at New Castle, Ind. He was a crane operator and attended Zephyr Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Julia K. Herron of Zephyrhills; two daughters, Jessica Herron and Ashley Herron, both of Zephyrhills; his father, Mike Herron of Zephyrhills; his mother Carol Winford Charles of Clearfield; one grandchild, Irael Ramirez; one brother, Randy Herron of Zephyrhills; two sisters, Amy (Jonny) Meade of Clearfield and Lisa Herron of Zephyrhills; four stepbrothers, Jeff (Sharon) Charles of Clearfield, Mike Charles of Mt. Sterling, Joe Charles of Huntington, W.Va.; one stepsister, Donna K. (Mike) Patrick of Morehead; one niece, Alexa Herron, and one nephew, Logan Meade, both of Clearfield; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 25 at Whitfield Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Herron officiating. Graveside services followed at Oakside Cemetery.

Delcie Mae Adkins
1929-2008

MOREHEAD - Delcie Mae Adkins, 79, of Greensboro, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at her home following an extended illness.

She was born September 19, 1929, in Olive Hill, Kentucky the daughter of Noah and Mary Kathreen Keaton.

She had worked in laundry at Henry County Hospital, in dietary at Hancock Regional Hospital, in dietary at Heritage House and at Brooks Canning in Mt. Summit. She had attended North 14th Street Church of God in New Castle. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, gardening and loved food preservation. She also enjoyed playing checkers and singing. Her little dog, Annie, brought much joy to her life.

Delcie is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rufus Adkins of Greensboro; children, Barbara (husband: Donald, Sr.) Dalton of Greensboro; Marvin (wife: Cindy) Adkins of Knightstown; Larry (wife: Mary) Adkins of Greensboro; Gary Adkins of Monticello, KY; Marlena (husband: Dennis) Adkins of Knightstown; a sister: Sylvia Denney of New Castle; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son: Danny Ray Adkins; grandson: Christopher Adkins; great grandson: Charles Adkins; brothers: Joe Keaton and Claude Ray Keaton; sister: Lucille Adkins, and infant sister: Lillian Keaton.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel with Pastor Elwood Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Tina K. Jones Blankenship
1961-2008

MOREHEAD – Tina K. Jones Blankenship, age 46, of Airport Hill, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at her residence.

Born December 2, 1961, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she is the daughter of Wanda Donahue Gilley of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late Ruben Kimberly Jones.

In addition to her mother, Tina is survived by Luther Blankenship of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Chandra Lydia Collins of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and two half-sisters, Shalla Thompson of Morehead, Kentucky, and Patricia Back of Frenchburg, Kentucky.

Tina was a homemaker and enjoyed drawing and reading.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Lonnie Conn officiating. Burial will follow in the Clearfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Curt Conley, Daniel Wallace, Dustin Wallace, Donnie Jones, Marty Blankenship, Clay Caldwell, Allen Donahue, and John Donahue.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Allie Lea Corbin Emmons
1921-2008

Allie Lea Corbin Emmons, 87, of Elizaville Avenue, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008 in the Fleming County Hospital after an extended illness.

She was born on February 3, 1921 in Bath County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Thomas D. and Nancy Sorrell Corbin.

Mrs. Emmons was a farmer and landowner, having raised tobacco, cattle and had a large dairy operation. She was also an employee of Clark-Taylor Insurance Agency for many years and she was a member of the Tilton United Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge, an election officer for many years and the 1999 Beta Sigma Phi Lady of the Year.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert “Dick” Emmons, three brothers, Thomas “Jumbo” Corbin, Bobby Corbin and Jim Corbin and two sisters, Betty Corbin Marshall and Anna Marie Vice. Also, a special friend, William Vogel Clark.

Survivors include one brother, Billy Corbin and his wife, Jackie of Tilton, one sister, Maxine Campbell of Tilton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 28, 2008 at the Denton-Workman Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Rev. Bob Ray and Rev. Ben Cain officiating. Burial will follow in the Fleming County Cemetery. Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray Corbin, Tommy Allen Corbin, Michael Corbin, David Corbin, Kevin Corbin, Kent Corbin, Robbie Campbell, Tommy Campbell, Anthony Marshall, Rodney Marshall, Martin Marshall, Corbin Marshall, Courtney Marshall, Sarah Jane Gray and Rayann Gray and honorary pallbearers will be Tony Kinder, Kenny Hickerson, Brownie Emmons, L. L. Emmons, Jr., J. E. Smith and Richard Thompson.

Contributions are suggested to the Tilton United Methodist Church.

Margie Lee Stewart Roberts
1927-2008

Margie Lee Stewart Roberts, age 81, of KY Hwy. 801 North, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008, at her home.

Born January 7, 1927, in Rowan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late William Jason Cox Stewart and Beulah Mae Reeves Stewart. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. “Bill” Stewart and Joe Stewart, and one sister, Mae Hall.

Her husband, Dr. Norman Norris Roberts, passed away on October 18, 2000; a son, Norman Lee Roberts on July 8, 2006; and a granddaughter, Amanda Gaye Roberts on May 7, 2004.

Survivors include three sons, John Stewart Roberts, Paul Garred Roberts, and William Warner “Willie” Roberts, all of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Shirley D. Ellington, of Morehead, Kentucky; eight grandchildren, Angela, Aaron, Adam, Abbygale, Patricia, Lily, Kristen, and Jared; and five great grandchildren.

Margie received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Morehead State University and retired from the Rowan County school system. She began her teaching career in a one-room school in Sharkey and taught in several other schools in Rowan County as well as Breckinridge Training School. For a number of years, she taught science and home economics at Rowan County High School.

Margie was active in several civic organizations. She and her husband were founding members of the Rowan County Historical Society and Margie served as Chairman of the Rowan County Republican Party for 27 years. Her hobbies included collecting dolls and ceramics.

Margie was a very devoted mother, grandmother, and sister and friend to all.

She was a longtime member of the Gideons Auxiliary and Morehead First Church of God.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Allan Hutchinson and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Jack Carter, William Stewart, Jeff Richardson, Randy Waltz, Ray White, Steve Lewis, and Richard White.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Gideons International or Morehead First Church of God, 576 Sunset Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.

Don B. Young, Sr.
1934-2008

MOREHEAD – Don B. Young, Sr., age 74, of Lafayette Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, retired Morehead State University professor and community leader, passed away Monday, November 24, 2008, at his residence after a long illness.

Born June 9, 1934, in Frankfort, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Thomas David (Tom) Young and Mary Rice Young.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Holbrook Young; one son, Don Bruce Young, Jr. and his wife Rhonda Baldridge Young; one daughter, Mary Carolyn Greenhill and husband Don “Buck” Greenhill; and one stepdaughter, Stephanie Ockerman and husband Mike Ockerman, all of Morehead, Kentucky.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Don Bruce “Trey” Young III, Don “Tripp” Greenhill III, J. Tyler Greenhill and wife Andrea McKinney Greenhill, and Seth Thomas Greenhill, and one great grandson, Jackson Tyler Greenhill.

Don was a graduate of Breckinridge Training School and a two-time graduate of Morehead State University. He retired from Morehead State University after more than forty years of service in various capacities. Don, a professor of art, started the Photography Department at M.S.U., served as interim director of the Kentucky Folk Art Center and director of Cooperative Education. For several years, he was the Director of Alumni Relations.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman Second Class during the Korean – Vietnam Era. A community leader, Don was an Eagle Scout and a well-known Boy Scout leader. He was a former member of the Tourism Commission and several other civic and professional organizations. He and Don Greenhill were instrumental in establishing disaster and emergency services in Rowan County. Don was also a Kentucky Colonel and member of Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654 and El Hasa Shrine Club.

Don’s hobbies included cooking, painting, photography, and woodworking.

Funeral services were conducted 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating. Full military rites were conducted by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126, who also served as pallbearers.

Visitation for Don B. Young, Sr., was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Masonic services were conducted at 7:30 p.m. by Morehead Masonic Lodge No. 654.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the M.S.U. Art Department, Morehead State University Foundation, Palmer Development House, Morehead, KY 40351
