Maria Ilona Adel “Bobbie” Magda
1929-2008
MOREHEAD - Maria Ilona Adel “Bobbie” Magda, age 79, of Sunshine Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born October 1, 1929, in Hungary, she was the daughter of the late Laszlo Vucsics and Maria Malsovits Vucsics. In 1951, she married
Dr. Louis Istvan Magda III. A member of the Hungarian Women’s Track Team, she participated in the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. She also participated in javelin, discus, and shot put at track meets throughout Europe.
In 1956, they immigrated to America. Dr. Magda was Professor of Economics at Morehead State University. Mrs. Magda taught for many years, beginning in Ashtabula and West Holmes, Ohio, and continued at Olive Hill High School after moving to Morehead. She also taught for over 20 years in the Rowan County school system. She most recently was a member of the Farmers Christian Church.
Dr. Magda preceded her in death in1998. Their only son, Louis A. Magda IV, of Morehead, is her sole survivor.
A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Dr. Don Flatt officiating. Mrs. Magda will be laid to rest next to Dr. Magda in Lee Cemetery.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Ernest J. McKenzie
1914-2008
MOREHEAD - Ernest J. McKenzie, 93, of Morehead, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at the Life Care Center of Morehead.
He was born September 30, 1914, at Warrix Run in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Zachary Taylor and Hattie Elliott McKenzie. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie M. Hall McKenzie on November 22, 2003; three brothers, Fant McKenzie, Odic McKenzie, and Cliff McKenzie; three sisters, Zona Hardin, Golda Armstrong, and Pearl Holler; one great grandson, Justin Stewart.
Mr. McKenzie is survived by four sons: Ramah McKenzie of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Gary McKenzie of Deland, Florida; Keith McKenzie of Morehead, Kentucky; and Tony McKenzie of Arlington, Virginia; one daughter: Pam Miles of Eastlake, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchildren.
Mr. McKenzie had been a sawyer all of his life. He had been self-employed as well as a former employee of local lumber companies including Ray White Lumber, Gene White Lumber, and Joe Greer Lumber.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Guy McKenzie and the Rev. Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Amanda J. Roberts
1930-2007
Veedersburg - Amanda J. Roberts, 77, of Veedersburg died at 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at her daughter’s residence in Columbus, Ind.
Mrs. Roberts was born Oct. 20, 1930, in Morehead, Ky., the daughter of Robert and Belle Caudilla Hicks. She married
Allie Roberts March 27, 1948 at Morehead. He preceded her in death Nov. 19, 2000.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Roberts; six brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include a son, David (Cindy) Roberts of Lafayette; daughters, Kathy (Ron) Schaeffer of Columbus, Shirley McPherson of Fort Worth, Texas, and Wanda (Mike) Marchini of Prunedale, Calif.; eight grandchildren and
11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Roberts was a member of First Baptist Church at Covington and Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed the time she spent with her many friends at Covington Senior Center.
She was a former employee of Metalcraft in Crawfordsville and Olin/Flexel in Covington.
The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Covington with Pastor Troy Harkey and the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Covington.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church and Covington Senior Center.
Mary Evelyn VanHoose Teater
1922-2008
MOREHEAD - Mary Evelyn VanHoose Teater died February 13, 2008, at her home in Edgewood Estates in Frenchburg, Kentucky. She was the only child of Charles W. VanHoose and Lula Patrick VanHoose and the widow of Oran C. Teater who preceded her in death on November 20, 2001.
She is survived by her daughter Dianna T. Walke (Ron) of Morehead, KY and her granddaughter Lee Ann Walke Pepper (Daryl) and four great grandchildren: Anna Cecile, Mary Charlotte, Charles Dexter and Elizabeth Lee of Elizabethtown, KY.
Evelyn was born in Thealka, Johnson County, KY on May 25, 1922. She wrote in her Memoir, I'm Glad I'm Not From Off, that she felt sorry for anyone who was not born in Paintsville or who did not grow up on Preston Street. She was an active member of the First Christian Church in Paintsville, served as president of the Paintsville Woman's Club. Her career as a legal secretary was spent in the law offices of Wells and Wells.
After her husband's retirement as Superintendent of the Paintsville City Schools in 1978, they relocated to Lexington, KY. There she was an active member of Southern Acres Christian Church and spent a good deal of her time volunteering for various church events.
In 1982, Evelyn and Oran moved to Morehead, KY to be near her daughter, son-in-law and grandchild. There she was active at the Morehead Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where she volunteered at the Human Concerns Store and the Senior Citizen's Day Care. She was also a member of the Morehead Garden Club.
Visitation for Mary Evelyn VanHoose Teater will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the First Christian Church, 227 East Main Street, Morehead, KY at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:30 with the Rev. Mollie Smothers officiating.
Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville (near Paintsville). Graveside services will be held at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers: David Mirus, Clyde I. James, David Perkins, Charlie Tingle, Lee Chaney, Larry Fannin, Jack Whidden, Wayne Caldwell, and Ronnie Caudill. Honorary pallbearers: Dan Thomas and the Elders of First Christian Church.

Atlee Trent
1924-2008
MOREHEAD - Atlee Trent, age 83, of CCC Trail, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at his home on Monday evening, February 11, 2008.
Mr. Trent was born August 28, 1924, in Haldeman, Kentucky, to the late John Harvey and Minnie Sloan Trent. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Trent and Nola Stigall; and four brothers, Ersel, Henry, Corbia, and Orbie Trent.
Mr. Trent is survived by his wife of 60 years, Norma Williams Trent, and five children: Diane DeMoss of Morehead, Kentucky; Jean Thomas and husband Clay of Sacramento, California; Joyce Morgan and husband Mark of Santa Ana, California; Dan Trent and wife Annette of Auburn, Washington; and Dana Baldridge and husband Jamie of Elliottville, Kentucky.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Steven Walters and wife Michele, Kimberly Goodpaster and husband Paul, Collin Thomas, Meghan Edwards and husband Leon, Jason Morgan, Molly Morgan, and Garrett Baldridge; five great grandchildren, Brandon, Brooke, Nathan Goodpaster, and Madison and Alexander Walters.
Two sisters, Recia Trent of Morehead, Kentucky, and Goldie Hitch of West Liberty, Kentucky also survive.
Mr. Trent was a self-employed builder. He loved working in timber and constructing many homes in this area. He was also interested in antique cars and NASCAR. His greatest love and enjoyment was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at1 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Wade Muncy and the Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Steven Walters, Collin Thomas, Brandon Goodpaster, Jason Morgan, and Paul Goodpaster. Honorary pallbearers will be Woody Adkins, Oscar Rowe, Jr., Damon Johnson, Vernon Lewis, the Thomas Family, Claude Turner, Jr., Kenneth Baker, Walter Carr, Gene McDaniel, Hobart Ramey, and Dan Turner.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Larry Lovas Beamon Sr.
1946-2008
MOREHEAD - Larry Lovas Beamon, Sr., age 61, of Christy Creek, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born August 9, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and is the son of Avelean Blevins Beamon of Clearfield, Kentucky, and the late James Alford Beamon. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Orville Beamon, and one sister, Joyce (Jack) Beamon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Dianna Rose Miller Beamon, whom he married
on March 6, 1982; three daughters, Angela (Keith) Hemphill, Lisa Tidwell, and Mickey Beamon, all of Brooksville, Kentucky; two sons, Larry (Melanie) Beamon Jr. of Brooksville, Kentucky, and Travis (Krissy) Beamon, of Morehead, Kentucky; and four grandchildren, James Lawrence Scolf, Michael Shane Tidwell, Ashley Dawn Tidwell, and Kayla Hope Hemphill.
Other survivors include three sisters, Barbara Ann (Corlis) Higginbothan and Betty Lou (Charles) Perry of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Linda Sue (Gary) Luckett of Louisville, Kentucky; five brothers, Roger Dale (Donna) Beamon of West Liberty, Kentucky, James (Kathy ) Beamon, Douglas (Phyllis) Beamon, Bernard (Kim) Beamon and Dennis (Belinda) Beamon, all of Morehead, Kentucky; two very special friends, Tim James and Christopher David Beamon; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was a former employee of International Harvester in Louisville, Kentucky, and a member of the Berlin Baptist Church in Bracken County, Kentucky.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Richard Engle officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Josh Gulley, Josh Hamilton, Rob Hamilton, Elmer Polley, Tim Hardy, and Jason Figgins.
Visitation was Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
