Ruby Easterling
1909-2008
WEST LIBERTY - Ruby Easterling of West Liberty, KY passed away Saturday, July 19, 2008 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, KY, at the age of 98 years, 8 months, and 14 days. She was born Friday, November 5, 1909 at Farmers, KY, a daughter of the late William and Nannie Collins Swim.
Ruby was united in marriage to Homer Easterling on February 25, 1927. To this union was born one daughter, Kathleen. Ruby was a homemaker, devoting her life to care for her family and her home. She was a Christian and a member of the Blairs Mill Church of Christ since 1953, where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 45 years.
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Easterling; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Douglas Lykins; one grandson, Rodney Lykins; three brothers, Virgil Swim, Clifton Roberts, and Donald Roberts; and one sister, Novella Perry.
Ruby is survived by five grandchildren, Larry and Myra Lykins, Dudley and Marilyn Lykins, Cheryl and Bill Wright all of West Liberty, Rex and Karen Lykins of Morehead, and Tonya and Chuck Skeens of Winchester; nine great grandchildren, Chris and Lisa Lykins, Jeff and Hope Lykins, Robin and Terry Robbins, Wes Wright, Autumn Wright, Trevor Lykins, Caitlin Bailey, Nicholas Bailey, and McCaden Skeens; five great-great grandchildren, Haley Lykins, Larryn Robbins, Lindsay Robbins, Kayla Prater, Kyle Smith; two great-great-great grandchildren, Kirstyn Prater, and Kyndra Prater; one brother, Grenvil Roberts of Xenia, OH; a special niece, Charlotte Swim Wilson of MI; and her many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service, 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at the Potter Funeral Home with Elder Jimmy Adkins and Elder Paul Balch officiating. Burial to follow in the Perry Cemetery, Blairs Mill, KY. Visitation 6:00 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2008 at the Potter Funeral Home.

Jerry Michael “Mike” Prince
1950-2008
MICHIGAN - Jerry Michael “Mike” Prince of Ypsilanti Twp., MI, age 58, died suddenly Wednesday, July 22, 2008 at his residence. He was born February 7, 1950, in Rowan County, KY. Survivors include his wife, Linh Prince; five children: Marilyn (Dan) Peterson. Miranda (Stuart Reams) Prince, Melinda (Josh) Angle, Melissa (Mike) Cischke and Michael Prince; 11 grandchildren: Lindsey, Chelsea and Natalie Peterson, Chase and Jaden Riling, Dagan Reams, Bradley, Makinley, Presley and Easton Angle and Jerick Prince; seven sisters and three brothers; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dixie Prince; two sisters: Betty Johnson and Barbara Prince and one granddaughter, Emily Peterson. Funeral service was held Sunday, July 27, 2008 at 3 p.m. at Janowiak Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Anderson of Victorious Life Church of God officiating. Bertha McKinney Roberts
1906-2008
MOREHEAD – Bertha McKinney Roberts, 102, of Kentucky 801 North, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2008 at her home.
She was born on January 15, 1906 in Zilpo, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John and Corilla Armstrong McKinney.
Mrs. Roberts was a partner in farming with her late husband. They raised Grade A produce to sell to area restaurants and grocery stores. She was a member of the Church of God and enjoyed gardening, fishing, cooking, canning, reading and quoting poetry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Roberts who passed away on January 25, 2001, and four brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Viola Cassity of Morehead, two grandchildren, Carolyn Sanders and Lynn Cassity, two great-grandchildren, Joseph Michael Sanders and Crystal Marie Sanders, two great-great-granddaughters, Bailey Sanders and Evelyn Grey Sanders and the many caregivers, especially those who provided tender, loving care for her during her final days.
Private family funeral services were conducted. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Cooper, Dan Crouch, Myke Sanders, Darrell Sanders, Philip Littleton and Tony Ratliff.

Franklin D Sparks
1935-2008
MOREHEAD - Franklin D Sparks, 73, born January 26, 1935, passed away July 24, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Survivors include his wife Janet Sparks, children, and extended family and friends too numerous to name.
A service will be held at the Morehead 1st Church of Nazarene, 606 Fraley Dr, Morehead, KY 40351 on Tuesday July 29, 2008 with a celebration of his life to follow in Houston at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Houston Hospice at 1905 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030, or American Cancer Society.
Carolyn Virginia Smoot Williams
1949-2008
MOREHEAD – Carolyn Virginia Smoot Williams, 59, of Bluestone-Bratton Branch Road passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008 at her home.
She was born on June 7, 1949 in Fleming County, Kentucky, a daughter of Lillie Dyer Smoot and the late Hildreth Smoot.
Mrs. Williams was a former employee of Ponderosa and Cutter’s. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and enjoyed going to flea markets and estate auctions, quilting, canning and gardening.
In addition to her father, Hildreth Smoot, she was preceded in death by two infant sisters.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, James “Bill” Williams, retired Morehead State University building and groundskeeper, whom she married
on January 1, 1972, of Morehead, her mother, Lillie Dyer Smoot of Fleming County, one son, Jamie Williams of Morehead, one daughter, Susie Romans and her husband, Chuck of Morehead, one brother, David Smoot of Ringos Mill, two grandchildren, Dennis Pennington, Jr. and Laymond Porter Curtis and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Redmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 P.M. Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Laymond Curtis, Dennis Pennington, Carl Ingle, Scotty Dyer, Jerry Williams and James Ray Smoot.

John David Scott
1964-2008
MOREHEAD – John David Scott, age 43, of Manchester, Tennessee, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at United Regional Medical Center in Manchester.
He was born December 26, 1964, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and is the son of Lavena McClain Scott of Morehead, Kentucky, and James Leon and Marsha Furnish Scott of Morehead, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Melissa Jett Scott; three children, Adam Scott, and Kaitlynn Scott of Morehead, Kentucky, and Tabitha Scott of Manchester, Tennessee; one brother, Richie Scott and wife Marjie of Morehead, Kentucky; one sister, Kim Fannin and husband Roger of Morehead, Kentucky; and grandmothers, Alice Mae McClain and Lizzie Alice Scott.
Also surviving are two nieces, Sasha Spencer and Brianna Scott; three nephews, Tyler Scott, Colin Spencer, and Trace Fannin; a multitude of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, including a special friend, Shirley Wright.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Luther McClain and Claude Scott.
John served in the Army National Guard from 1988-1996 and worked in construction. He enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, and trail walking. He also liked spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Scott, Colin Spencer, Trace Fannin, Randy Skeens, John David Brown, and Tony Bill McClain.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Thursday, 24, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Rosie Belle Little Ferguson
1929-2008
MOREHEAD - Rosie Belle Little Ferguson, age 79, of Skaggs Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, June 6, 2008, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
She was born April 1, 1929, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late James and Lulie Plank Little.
On January 14, 1947, Rosie married
Cecil Ray Ferguson, who preceded her in death on May 19, 2002. Their only daughter, Wanda Ferguson, passed away in 1963.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Delmas and Liz Ferguson, Gary and Bobbie Ferguson, and Eugene and Sherri Ferguson, all of Morehead, Kentucky; eight grandchildren: Kristin Jo Ferguson, Joshua Eugene Ferguson, Keri Deane Ferguson, Brian Mathew Ferguson, Erin Elizabeth Ferguson, Jeffrey Kyle Ferguson, Ashley Dehart and Amber Dehart; one brother, Dennis Little of Constantine, Michigan; and one sister, Katherine Blankenship of Muncie, Indiana.
Mrs. Ferguson was a former housekeeper in the Maintenance Department at Morehead State University and was a member of the Church of God. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, and grandmother, who loved her family and especially enjoyed making quilts, sewing, and church activities.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell and the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Burial was in the Adams-Plank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Ferguson, Josh Ferguson, Brian Ferguson, Paul Little, James Earl Little, and Toby Gardner.
Visitation was after noon Monday, June 9, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
