Ernest Ray Fraley
1948-2008
MOREHEAD - Ernest Ray Fraley, age 60, of Williams Branch, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at his residence.
He was born April 2, 1948, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Arlie and Nadine Jones Fraley.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie Kiser Fraley; one daughter, Patricia Fraley Kelly of Grayson, Kentucky; one brother, Delford Fraley of Morehead, Kentucky; and two sisters, Ernestine Staggs of Morehead, Kentucky, and Hildas Mayse of Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Ernest was a former heavy machinery operator at Mountain Enterprises Road Construction and Wilson Construction Company. He loved building cars.
Visitation was Wednesday, June 18, 2008 and Thursday, June 19, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals. Family graveside services will be held at Prince Cemetery in Elliottville, Kentucky.
Arrangements are under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Ruth Barnes
1923-2008
MOREHEAD - Ruth Barnes, age 84, of Big Perry Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, June 9, 2008 at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born June 23, 1923 in England. She was the wife of the late Dr. Louis Barnes.
Both Louis and Ruth Barnes were professors of English at Morehead State University, where they retired professors emeritus in 1986.
Ms. Barnes is survived by her daughter Anthea Boarman of Louisville, KY and 6 grandchildren: Cheri Lanier, Colin Simmons, and Mark Boarman of Louisville, KY, Nhung Bishop of Ft. Pierce, Florida, and John Boarman and David Boarman of Morehead, KY; and 2 great grandchildren.
The Barnes will long be remembered for their contributions to education and also for their love of animals. They were active in cat breeding and showing of world champion cats.
A picnic and memorial service will be held in the garden at her residence on Big Perry Road starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
Alene Blankenship Engle
1913-2008
MOREHEAD - Alene Blankenship Engle, age 95, of Jeffersonville, Kentucky, formerly of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born January 10, 1913, in Morgan County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Minnie Phillips Blankenship. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Boyd Engle, in 1953, and five children, Bobby Lee Lewis, Boyd Engle, Jr., Olive Lewis, Maxine Engle, and James Engle.
She is survived by three daughters, Imogene Stegall of Fleming County, Kentucky Pearl Johnson of Gratis, Ohio, and Oleta Jones of Morehead, Kentucky; one son, Hayes Lewis, Jr. of Morgan County, Kentucky; one sister, Nannie Hughes of Independence, Kentucky; 28 grandchildren; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Engle was a homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. When she was able, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and flowers.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in the Callahan-Lewis Cemetery in Morgan County.
Pallbearers will be John Jones, Robert Stegall, Chris Stegall, Ray Stegall, Tony Stegall, DeLynn Lewis, and Ronnie Lewis.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Millard Carl “Red” Gulley
1924-2008
MOREHEAD - Millard Carl “Red” Gulley, age 84, of U.S. Hwy 60 East, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, June 2, 2008, at the Life Care Center in Morehead.
He was born April 25, 1924, in Rowan County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Garland and Minnie Lykins Gulley. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Gover and Jewell Banks, and four brothers, Fred, Alvin, Elmer, and Homer Gulley.
He is survived by one sister, Wilda Riddle of Morehead, Kentucky; one brother, Garland Gulley, Jr. of Kensington, Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
“Red” was a farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Hayes Branch Church of God.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Philip Fraley officiating. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Banks, Billy Brown, Keith Brown, and Michael Gulley.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Johnnie Francis McVey
1928-2008
MOREHEAD – Johnnie Francis McVey, age 79, of Heritage Place, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born December 8, 1928, at Indian Creek in Fleming County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Bert and Vernie Crum McVey. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Sara Hovies.
He is survived by two sons and their wives, Randy and Carol McVey of Cynthiana, Kentucky, and Howard and Diana McVey of Clearfield, Kentucky; two daughters and their husbands, Annetta and Carl Carter of Bellville, Texas, and Robin Lynn and Ricky Trent of Morehead, Kentucky; two brothers, Roy McVey of Dunkirk, Indiana, and Bennie McVey of Yellville, Arkansas; two sisters, Myrtle Stafford of Lake Wales, Florida, and Naomi Cook of Muncie, Indiana; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a special friend, Nell Caudill of Morehead.
Johnnie was a member of the Ironworkers Local in Ashland, Kentucky. He was an ordained minister, a former pastor of the Dry Creek Church of God, and had a local radio program for 25 years. He attended the First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher and the Rev. Ray Glover officiating. Burial was in the Jenkins-Crum Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky.
Pallbearers were Roy McVey, Howard McVey, Randy McVey, Bennie McVey, Steve Trent, and Brian Carter.
Visitation was after 5 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Glenna Porter Waddell
1912-2008
MOREHEAD – Glenna Porter Waddell, 95, of Elliottville passed away Thursday, May 29, 2008 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
She was born on July 3, 1912 in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Millard and Martha Elliott Porter.
Mrs. Waddell was a retired cook having worked in ADUC at Morehead State University. She was a very hard worker, was of the Apostolic Faith and enjoyed working in her garden, flowers and her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merida Anderson Waddell who passed away on November 11, 1995, her son-in-law, Clyde Mays, Sr., two brothers, Ross Porter and Paul Porter, one sister, Ruth Porter Waddell and one half sister, Vada Porter Elam.
Survivors include one son, Raymond M. Waddell, Sr. and his wife, Connie Haney Waddell of Elliottville, one daughter, Wilda Mae Mays of Elliottville, one half sister, Eva Porter Sizemore of Hamilton, Ohio, her sister-in-law, Ruth Porter of Elliottville, six grandchildren, Clyde Mays, Jr. and his wife, Linda, Diana Wilson and her husband, Woodrow, Terry Mays and his wife, Sherrie, Raymond M. Waddell, Jr., Phillip I. Waddell and his wife, Misty, Lanetta D. Winkleman and her husband, Richard, twelve great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Brother Daniel Long officiating. Burial was in the Merida Waddell Cemetery at Elliottville.
Pallbearers were Raymond Waddell, Jr., Phillip Waddell, Richard Winkleman, Clyde Mays, Jr., Terry Mays, Woodrow Wilson, Pat Mays and Jeff Mays.

Pamila Ann Warren Butler
1959-2008
MOREHEAD – Pamila Ann Warren Butler, 48, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center after suffering an apparent heart attack.
She was born at Rowan County, Kentucky on November 11, 1959, a daughter of Gerald and Mary Imajean Logan Warren of Morehead.
Pamila was a private caregiver and of the Church of God Faith. She enjoyed shopping, music, movies and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alex Butler who passed away in 2001.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sons, Daniel Travis Weirsum and his wife, Teresa of Grahn, Sgt. Joshua Lee Warren, currently serving in Iraq, and his wife, Amber of Raeford, North Carolina and Gerald Edmund Warren III of Morehead, one step-daughter, Shania Butler of Grayson, one brother, Gerald Edmund Warren II of Morehead, four sisters, Teresa Thompson, Brenda Hamilton, Cheryl Wilson and Jody Collins all of Morehead, two grandchildren, Caleb Dillon Weirsum and Abigail Grace Warren and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, May 25, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Brother Daniel Carter officiating. Burial was in the Warren Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Weirsum, Joshua Warren, Gerald Warren III, Eddie Warren, Mitch Collins and Jordan Collins and honorary pallbearers will be Tony Pergrem and Daniel Carter.
