Ora Lee Johnson
1934-2007
MOREHEAD – Ora Lee Johnson, 73, a native of Rowan County, passed away at his home in Morehead on May 2, 2007, after an extended illness.
Ora was born on March 31, 1934 at Cogswell, Kentucky. He was the son of the late John William and Eliza Jane Middleton Johnson.
Ora was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Soley and U.S.S. Brownson, from 1955 to 1959. He was honorably discharged in April 1959. As a First Class Boiler Tender, he was awarded the Good Conduct medal as well as several other commendations. He continued his education while in the Navy, after returning home, he was employed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, as a licensed steam engineer, for 28 years retiring in 1988. He was of the Baptist Faith, enjoyed being with family and friends, woodworking, refinishing furniture, chair caning, working on clocks, bird watching, hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Lola Mae Johnson, Josie Ethel Johnson and Flora Johnson and seven brothers, Ollie Stanton Johnson, Corbie Stone Johnson, Hayward Andrew Johnson, William Albert Johnson, James Lilburn Johnson, Linville Junior Johnson and Lonnie Roscoe Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Hester Link Johnson of Morehead, two daughters, Pamela Yvette (Jack) Owsley of Xenia, Ohio and Jennifer Lynn Johnson of Dayton, Ohio, one son, Geoffrey Duane Johnson of Fairborn, Ohio, nine grandchildren, Joshua Lee Owsley, Matthew Jacob Owsley, Jackie Lee Owsley III, Rebecca Ann Owsley, Rachel Lorene Owsley, Lindsay Brook (Matthew) Smith, Melissa Ann Johnson, Megan Elizabeth Johnson and Kathryn Ann Cook, one great-granddaughter, Macey Lynn Smith, one brother, John D. (Barbara) Johnson of Butler, Alabama, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and his beloved pets, Callie and Monte.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 P.M. Saturday, May 31, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice or the American Lung Association.

Edith Chadwell
1924-2008
MOREHEAD - Edith Catherine Thomas Chadwell, age 83, of White Lake, Michigan, passed away Friday, January 25, 2008, at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan.
She was born June 16, 1924, in Morehead, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late James Rubin and Sybrina Sparks Thomas. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde N. Chadwell on June 27, 2007; two brothers, John Carl Thomas and Claudie B. Thomas.
She is survived by a daughter, Paulette Johnson of White Lake, Michigan; and a son Dannie Chadwell of Westland, Michigan; three brothers, James C. Thomas and Clyde A. Thomas both of Morehead, Kentucky; and Clayton Thomas of Sacramento, California; seven sisters, Emma Lee Smith of Lake Orion, Michigan; Ruby Elam, Vinda Moore, Mary Jane Kidd, and Bonnie Wood all of Morehead, Kentucky; Madge Elliott and Sue Hardin both of Clearfield, Kentucky; two grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Mrs. Chadwell was a homemaker. A devoted Christian, she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the Community Baptist Church.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H.G. Pratt officiating. Burial followed in the Hamilton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews, Gary W. Thomas, John Thomas, Jay Day, Clyde Thomas Jr., Paul Kidd, and Robert J. Thomas.
Visitation was after 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Sylvan M. “S.M.” Donohue
1916-2008
MANSFIELD, OHIO - Sylvan M. “S.M.” Donohue, 91, of Mansfield, died Sunday, January 27, 2008, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born January 28, 1916, in Paragon, KY, he was the son of James and Josie (Law) Donohue. He was founder of S.M. Donohue Co. Inc, one of the first Fire and Catastrophe Restoration Companies in Richland County. He was a member of Hillside First Church of God, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), a past Franklin Township Trustee and a past board member of the Carpenters Local Union.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Blandena (Mynhier) Donohue; three sons, Gary (Linda) Donohue, Dane (Pamela) Donohue all of Mansfield, and Mark (Barbara) Donohue of Delaware, OH; seven grandchildren, Shelley, Heather, Sean, Kristin, Jenna, Falon and Dylan; three great grandchildren, Dalton, Audric and Blake; three half brothers and one half sister; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and three sisters.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2008, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors. Private graveside services will be Friday at the convenience of the family in Mt. Carl Hamm
1935-2007
INDIANA - Carl Edward Hamm died Dec. 2, 2007. He was born Feb. 3, 1935 to Amos Hamm and Eunice (Donathan) Hamm. He married
Bessie Louise Cunningham.
His children are Janet (Hamm) Minix of Hamlet, Ind., Anna (Hamm) Malott of Gilbert, Ariz., Elizabeth (Hamm) Clabaugh of Knox, Ind., Anita (Hamm) Akers of Knox, Ind., Marshall Hamm of South Bend, Ind., and Richard Hamm of North Judson, Ind. He had 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Thursday, Dec. 6 at the O’Donnell Funeral Home, 302 Lane Street, North Judson, Indiana.
Danny Dale Scaggs
1946-2008
MOREHEAD - Danny Dale Scaggs, age 61, of White Road, Soldier, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2008, at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center. Born August 25, 1946, at Sharkey, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Charlie and Lillian Brown Scaggs.
On October 5, 1993, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Ann Conn Scaggs, who survives. In addition to his wife of 14 years other survivors include a daughter, Chrissy Scaggs of Bath County, Kentucky three step-sons, Tim Highley of Bath County, Kentucky, Jason Brewster of Morehead, Kentucky and Dustin Brewster of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three step daughters, Edessa Brewster of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Shelia Boyles of Grayson, Kentucky, and Paula Carter of Bath County, Kentucky.
Also surviving are two grandchildren, Devon Hunt and Lillian Hunt; seven step-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Scaggs of Salt Lick, Kentucky; two sisters, Rita Jordan of Louisville, Kentucky, and Barbara Lucci of Ashland, Kentucky.
Danny was a retired Union Carpenter and attended the Dry Branch Church of God. He enjoyed hunting and horseback riding.
Funeral services will be conducted1 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Gayle Price and Rev. Willard Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Conn Cemetery in Enterprise, Kentucky.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Dehart, Allen Stevens, Paul Conn, Jason Brewster, Dustin Brewster, and Tim Highley.
Visitation was after 5p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
James Lowell Ellington
1931-2008
MOREHEAD – James Lowell Ellington, age 76, of Cranston Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, at the U.K. Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born November 30, 1931, at Zilpo, Kentucky, in Bath County, and was the son of the late William Taylor and Mildred Marie Williams Ellington. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Ellington and Donald Ellington.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Stewart Ellington, whom he wed September 9, 1955; two daughters, Cheri Waltz and husband Randy of Morehead, Kentucky, and Carla Richardson and husband Jeff of Versailles, Kentucky; one sister, Alma Bellamy of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Randa Hall, Chris Waltz, Kyle Richardson, Cheri Rogers, and Megan Waltz; and four great grandchildren, James Avory Rogers, Katlyn Waltz, Hayden Rogers, and Jacob Rogers.
Mr. Ellington served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a retired supervisor for the Kentucky Cabinet for Manpower Services. He was a life member of the Kentucky Long Rifles of Morehead and a member of the Kentucky’s Corps of Long Riflemen. He attended Johnson Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ben Furman and the Rev. Mike Pennington officiating. Entombment was in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
Pallbearers were Chris Waltz, Kyle Richardson, Donnie Hall, John Rogers, Derek Howard, and Greg Bellamy.
Visitation was Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Jean Jackson
1934-2008
MOREHEAD – Irma Jean McCraw Jackson, age 73, of Rodburn Hollow Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Friday, July 11, 2008, at Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born December 17, 1934, in Meridian, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Grace Porthyress McCraw. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Malcolm, Bud, Carl, and Harold McCraw, and two sisters, Dorothy Creekmore and Nell Tims.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna Jarnagin and husband John of Pelham, Alabama; one son, Jimmy Fuller and wife Judy of Southaven, Mississippi; and three grandchildren, Micah Jarnagin, Sarah Beth Jarnagin, and Patrick Fuller.
Before moving to Morehead, Mrs. Jackson was a mobile home salesperson in Memphis, Tennessee. She was a member of New Horizon Fellowship in Morehead and worked a card ministry for the church. She was also an avid reader, a homemaker, and most proudly a mother. Her favorite thing was taking care of her grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Keeton and Pastor Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Clark Thomas, Rob Taylor, Whitney Bradley, Tony McKinney, Joe Bevins, and Richard Fletcher.
Visitation was Saturday, July 12, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
