Xavier Wayne Lowe

MOREHEAD – Xavier Wayne Lowe, son of Samuel Wayne and Daphne June Justice Lowe, of Big Elm Ridge, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at birth on Friday, July 11, 2008, at St. Joseph East in Lexington, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Zachary Wayne Lowe, at home. Maternal grandparents are Sharon Crawford Justice of Morehead, Kentucky, and the late Jerry Justice; paternal grandparents, Kenneth Wayne and Shelley Lowe of Glasgow, Kentucky, Valerie Lee Dodd of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and Debbie and Douglas Powell of Glasgow, Kentucky; and paternal great grandparents, Patty Lowe of Glasgow, Kentucky, and Mattie Lee of Glasgow, Kentucky. A very special friend, Liz Pecco Justice, also survives.
Funeral services were conducted 4 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Todd Richardson and the Rev. Larry Lowe officiating. Burial was in Babyland at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Betty June Hammond Oliver Mauk
1926-2008
MOREHEAD – Betty June Hammond Oliver Mauk, age 81, of Forest Hills Drive, Morehead, KY, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, KY.
She was born October 22, 1926, in Rockcastle County, KY, and was the daughter of the late Hobart Hammond and Evelyn Tankersly Blackburn. Her first husband, Walter L. Oliver, preceded her in death on October 10, 1975; a grandchild, Pasalea “Sissy” Oliver on April 5, 2000; and two brothers, Rudolph Hammond and Wendell Hammond.
Surviving are her husband, Joe J. Mauk; one son, Robert “Bobby” Oliver and wife Noy of Berea, KY; one stepson, Michael Joe Mauk of Grapevine, TX; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Rose and husband Larry, Anita Susan Abney and husband Eddie, and Sandra Lea Botkin and husband Dale, all of Berea, KY; one stepdaughter, Karan Lenora Fouch of Morehead, KY; 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; and 10 step great grandchildren.
Betty was a former cafeteria manager at the Herald-Leader in Lexington, KY, and Parker Seal and Hyster, both in Berea, KY. She was a member of Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a fundraiser for the church. Betty was saved in the Pleasant Run Baptist Church in Lamero, KY, in 1948.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at the Sharkey Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating. A graveside service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Bales Hill Cemetery in Livingston, KY.
Pallbearers will be Eric Rose, Christopher Botkin, Robert Oliver, Kenny Fouch, Michael St. John, and Chad Chasteen.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive, Morehead, KY 40351.
Hazel Faye Donohue Melton
1934-2008
MORHEAD – Hazel Faye Donohue Melton, 73, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 12, 2008.
Mrs. Melton was born December 1, 1934, in Paragon, Kentucky, the daughter of Crystal and Lorean Staton Donohue. She married
Lawrence B. Melton on January 10, 1972, in Clintwood, VA.
Hazel leaves behind her beloved husband Larry (Bennie) Melton; a daughter, Deonna Schreiber and husband David; one brother, John and wife Debbie Donohue; three sisters, Etta Mae Brown, Wanda Gilley, and Naomi (Moore) and husband Lloyd Harris all of Morehead, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Tammy Jo Barber of DuQuoin, Illinois, Artie Highfill and Davina Overbey and husband Brad; six great grandchildren, Trent, Tyler and Trevor Barber, Tylyn and Luther Highfill and Rayleigh Overbey, all of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive and her long-time best friend Betty (Lueke) Keller of Valier, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mary and Martha Donohue.
Hazel loved to play bingo, go to the casino, and collect all kinds of dolls. She loved animals especially dogs and horses. She was a member of the Old Timer's Car Club and also a member of Moose Lodge and the VFW of Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Hazel was a very uplifting person and always loved to be surrounded by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in Clearfield Cemetery. Grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Cobie Allen Moore
2008-2008
MOREHEAD – Cobie Allen Moore, infant son of DeAnna Estep and Harris Moore of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away at birth on Thursday, July 10, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Maternal grandparents are Allen Estep and the late Sharon Estep; maternal great grandparents, Vada Estep and the late Burnest Estep; paternal grandparents, Harold and Carol Moore; paternal great grandparents, Ada Peyton and the late Cobie Moore and Odema Buckner and Elder McKinney. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Estep Cemetery with the Rev. Cecil Ison officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
William C “Bill Porter
1915-2008
MOREHEAD – William C “Bill” Porter, age 92, of Bull Fork Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2008, at his residence.
Born September 6, 1915, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Cecil and Lydia White Porter.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 68 years, Ruby Jean Graham Porter, whom he wed August 14, 1940. Also surviving are five sons, William Roy Porter and wife MarLee of Virginia Beach, VA, Ronald Eugene Porter and wife Mitzie of Morehead, KY, Roger Lee Porter and wife Rita of Morehead, KY, Larry Wilson Porter and wife Geri of Lexington, KY, and Timothy Wayne Porter and wife Marsha of Cincinnati, OH; one daughter, Sarah Jean “Cherry” Murphy of Fayetteville, NC, wife of the late Sergeant Major William Larry Murphy Sr.
Other survivors include 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Bill was a former employee of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Fairborn, OH, Gene White Lumber Company, Morehead, KY, and Joe Greer Lumber Company, Midland, KY. In 1989 he retired as Rowan County P.V.A. after 18 years of service. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at Mt. Pisgah Christian Church with the Rev. James DeAtley officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Porter’s five sons and grandson William Larry Murphy, Jr.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals and after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pisgah Church.

James L. "Jim" Potter
1924-2008
MOREHEAD – James L. “Jim” Potter, age 84, of Dark Hollow Road, Clearfield, Kentucky, passed away early Monday morning, July 14, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.
He was born June 16, 1924, to James and Alta Jones Potter of Mitchell, South Dakota. After graduating from Mitchell High School in 1942, he moved to California, where he married
Iris Riley (also of Mitchell) and began his apprenticeship in the electrical trade. From 1943 to 1946 he served in Australia during World War II.
He was a resident of Rowan County for 39 years, having moved here with his family in 1969. As a very active member of the Morehead Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he was well known throughout Rowan and Carter counties for visiting every home to share encouraging scriptures with his neighbors about the paradise earth promised in the Bible. It is in that hope that he awaits the resurrection of the dead, promised by Jesus at John 5:28, 29.
A devoted husband and father, he and his wife of 62 years, Iris Potter, raised three children. John Potter and Lauri Trenalone and their families live in Clearfield. Their son, Richard Potter, lived in Morehead from 1972-1977, and now lives near San Diego, California. In addition to his three children and their marriage mates, he is survived by four grandchildren.
A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Douglas Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is after 6 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2009, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Wilma Jean Moore Crisp
1952-2008
MOREHEAD - Wilma Jean Moore Crisp, age 55, of Williams Branch, Elliottville, Kentucky, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky.
She was born June 6, 1952, in Lexington, Kentucky, daughter of the late James Tracy and Eula Lewis Moore.
Wilma is survived by one sister, Roberta K. Moore Meade and her husband Claude, and one brother, James Lanney Moore, all of Morehead, Kentucky. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Shawn and John Justice, Wesley and Kim Meade, Yvonne and Jackie Wells, James, Rick, Kevin, and Jeremy Moore, Tori Crisp, and Amanda Cox and their children.
Wilma was a medical transcriptionist for St. Claire Regional Medical Center for 17 years and was presently managing The Educators’ Toolbox in Morehead. She was an avid photo collector and enjoyed traveling, helping others, and spending time with family and friends. She attended the Family of God Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Charles Moore and the Rev. Herbie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Ditney Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Justice, Ronnie Crisp, Delmas Waggoner, Joe Stevens, Casey Whitt, Jeremy Moore, James Moore, Rick Moore, and Jackie Wells.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
