Ronnie Lee Curtis
1965-2008
MOREHEAD – Ronnie Lee Curtis, 43, of Redwood Lane passed away Friday, September 12, 2008 at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on July 12, 1965, a son of Verna Hamm Johnson and the late Charlie Curtis.
Mr. Curtis was a former employee of Save A-Lot and Kroger. He enjoyed watching Kentucky Wildcat Basketball and Football.
Ronnie was well liked and had many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Curtis.
Survivors include his mother, Verna Johnson and one brother, Charles Curtis both of Morehead, one step-brother, Elwood Bolar of Flemingsburg, one niece, Nicole Starostka, two great nieces, AleshaWendell and Shyla Jordan all of Olive Hill and one nephew, Keith Bolar and his wife, Amy of Flemingsburg.
Funeral services were conducted at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 15, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Wade Muncy officiating. Burial was in the Purvis Cemetery.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Hazel Fenton Nollau
1912-2008
MOREHEAD - Hazel Fenton Nollau, age 96, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008, at her home following an extended illness.
Born June 15, 1912, in Lexington, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Louis Edward Nollau of Quincy, IL, and Hazel Margaret Fenton Nollau of Detroit, MI.
In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by two brothers. One brother, Louis Nollau, was disabled at birth and lived a short life; the other, Capt. George F. Nollau, died in the Philippines during World War II and is buried at Ft. McKinley, Manila Cemetery.
Survivors include cousins June Fenton Kennedy and Sherrill Livernois of Greenwood, South Carolina, and Charles Borchard of Knoxville, Tennessee. Also to cherish her memory will be her former students, attentive caregivers, and many loving and devoted friends.
A 1934 and 1935 graduate of the University of Kentucky, Ms. Nollau worked in the Bureau of School Science for the University and then taught at Henry Clay High School in Lexington before moving to Morehead. Ms. Nollau was a science teacher at Morehead State University’s Breckinridge School from 1946 to 1974 when she retired.
She was a member of the Rowan County Retired Teachers Association, the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of NEA, KEA, AAUW, and Kappa Delta Sorority. She had served as a member of the Kentucky Academy of Science and the Kentucky Junior Academy of Science.
Following retirement, Hazel traveled extensively and volunteered at St. Claire Regional Medical Center and the literacy program. She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Morehead where had served as a member of the Bishops Committee and as Chair of the Altar Guild.
Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with The Rev. Marvin W. Suit and The Rev. Janey Wilson officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 145 East Fifth Street, Morehead, KY 40351 or St. Claire Regional Medical Center, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, KY 40351.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
James Everett “Jimmy” Wilson
1954-2008
SALT LICK – James Everett “Jimmy” Wilson, age 54, of U.S. 60 East, Salt Lick, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Born June 19, 1954, in Rowan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late John Paul and Christine Harris Wilson. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Debbie Ann Wilson Slone.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Deborah Lynn “Debbie” Plank Wilson, whom he wed September 16, 1995; one son, Terry (Shelley) Knipp of Morehead, Kentucky; three daughters, Mary (Matt) Donofrio of Ida, Michigan, Leigha Ann Knipp of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, and Shelli Renee (Jeff) Knipp Emmons of Salt Lick, Kentucky; and nine grandchildren, Sean Payne, Cassidy Moritz, Wilson Moritz, Julie Knipp, Lawrence Conn, Olivia Knipp, Brice Hale, Mason Emmons and Alex Emmons.
Other survivors include seven brothers, Pastor Donnie Wilson of Mansfield, Ohio, Kirby Wilson of Morehead, Kentucky, Roy Wilson of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Denny Wilson of Morehead, Kentucky, Johnny Wilson of Morehead, Kentucky, Wayne Wilson of Florence, Kentucky, and Herbie Wilson of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; and one sister, Nina Crain of Morehead, Kentucky.
Jimmy was a businessman and co-owner of Debbie’s Music ShowHouse and owner of Wilson Manufactured Homes, both in Salt Lick, Kentucky, and the former owner of Wilson’s Auto Sales in Morehead, Kentucky, and Springfield, Ohio. He enjoyed collecting cars, listening to family Bluegrass music, playing with his grandchildren, helping other people, and being anywhere family and friends gathered. Jimmy was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church in Owingsville, Kentucky.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with his best friend Pastor Jamie “Moose” Stump officiating.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, Morehead, Kentucky.
Sharon Louise Lee McDonald
1964-2008
HILLSBORO - Sharon Louise Lee McDonald, age 44, of Days Mill Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
She was born September 4, 1964, in Mason County, Kentucky, and is the daughter of Eulene Jamison Lee of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and the late Roy Lee.
In addition to her mother, Sharon is survived by her husband of 21years, Benny McDonald and three brothers, Richie (Rhonda) Lee of Montgomery County, Kentucky, Danny (Julie) Lee and Johnny (Betty) Lee, all of Flemingsburg, Kentucky.
Besides her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Lee, and one sister, Jane Jolly.
Sharon was a graduate of Fleming County High School and a former Food Service Manager at Fleming County High School. She was a member of Hillsboro Christian Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008, at the Hutton Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Hamm and Brother Gerald Saunders officiating. Burial will follow in the Flemingsburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Danny Peratt, Eddie Jolly, Victor Perkins, Danny Lewis, Tommy McDonald and Johnny Lee. Flower carriers will be Johnny Lee, Jr., Lee Jordan, Clay Jordan and Andy McDonald.
Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, at the Hutton Funeral Home.
Wilfred Fryman “Buck” McGuire
1938-2008
OHIO - Wilfred Fryman “Buck” McGuire, age 70, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Big Brushy, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008, in Hamilton, Ohio, after a short illness.
He was born February 5, 1938, in Gratis, Ohio, son of the late Lurman and Julia Fryman McGuire.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Dean McGuire and Rock McGuire; a brother-in-law, Kash Arnett; and a sister-in-law, Mickie McGuire.
Mr. McGuire is survived by one stepson, Roger Dale; one daughter, Valerie Dawn Keaser; and two grandsons, Richard Alan and Andrew Michael Deeter.
Other survivors include three brothers, Gale McGuire and wife Lela of Union, Ohio, Carol McGuire of Hamilton, Ohio, and Keith McGuire and wife Alene of Morehead, Kentucky; three sisters, Joy Arnett of Elwood, Indiana, Lois Cooper and husband Richard of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Margie Menche and husband Tom Tucker of Fairfield, Ohio.
He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews that includes a devoted nephew, Larry (Diane) and a great niece, Angie and a dog, Oddie.
Mr. McGuire was a skilled carpenter and before his retirement, worked for the Bill Weaver Construction Company. He enjoyed gardening.
There was no visitation or funeral service. Burial was at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in the Fryman Family Cemetery on Big Brushy, Morehead, Kentucky.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
David Pettit Jr.
1937-2008
MOREHEAD – David Pettit, Jr., 70, of McBrayer Road, Clearfield passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at his home after an illness of several weeks.
He was born on October 11, 1937 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late David Hopkins Pettit and Bearl Haney Pettit.
Mr. Pettit was known as the hardest working man in the county. He was a logger, sold firewood, worked for Gateway Community Services since 1986 and owned and operated Morehead Movers since 1965. David was a member of the Morehead First Apostolic Church since 1998.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Pettit and three sisters, Patricia Mynhier, Kathleen Staton and Brenda Pettit.
Survivors include his wife, Fayola Blair Pettit, whom he married
on June 3, 1961, of Clearfield, one son, Donald Earl Pettit and his wife, Judy of Morehead, one daughter, Donna Michelle Vickers and her husband, David of Newark, Delaware, four brothers, Wayne Pettit, Paul Pettit, Gene Pettit and Gary Pettit all of Morehead, one sister, Judith Terry of Morehead, three grandchildren, Randy Vickers, Jeffrey Vickers and Saprina Pettit and his mother-in-law, Thelma Blair of Morehead.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 6, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Binion officiating. Burial will follow in New Alfrey Cemetery at Farmers. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Tony Pettit, Chris Terry, Nathan Terry, Gary Pettit, Jr., David Vickers and Randy Vickers.
