Ivan Dale Krow Sr.
1949-2008

MOREHEAD - Ivan Dale Krow, Sr., age 58, of Ridgeway Drive, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Born February 20, 1949, in Mansfield, Ohio, he is the son of Margaret Brewer Krow Felton of Ashland, Ohio, and the late John Henry Krow.

He is also survived by the mother of his child, Geneva Moore Krow; one son, Ivan Krow, II, three stepsons, James Thompson, Timothy Thompson, and Jeremiah Thompson; and one granddaughter, Siera Taylor Krow, all of Morehead.

Other survivors include two brothers, Alvin Brown of Polk, Ohio, and John Brown of Ashland, Ohio, and three sisters, Beverly Liggett of Marblehead, Ohio, Lucille Thompson and Evelyn Hartman, both of Ashland, Ohio.

Ivan served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, was a former employee of Fannin’s Ashland, and had been a bus driver for the Rowan County schools. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a member of the East End Church of God.

Graveside services and burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at New Alfrey Cemetery with the Rev. David Starcher officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be Cobern Fannin, John Wolfenbarger, Jeremiah Thompson, Walter Riddle, Dougie Black, and Joe Samuelson.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Clyde Mays Sr.
1925-2008

MOREHEAD – Clyde Mays, Sr., age 82, of Brown Ridge Road, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 4, 2008, at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born May 16, 1925, in Elliott County, Kentucky, and was the son of the late Henry and Martha Ann Fraley Mays. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Everett, Charlie and Elbert Mays and three sisters, Opal Mays, Mary Mays and Edith Fraley. A daughter, Juanita Mays, passed away in 1948.

Mr. Mays is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Wilda Mae Waddell Mays, whom he married April 24, 1948; two sons, Clyde Mays, Jr. and wife Lynda Carol and Terry Mays and wife Sherry Elaine, all of Morehead, Kentucky; one daughter, Dianne Wilson and husband Woodrow of Winchester, Kentucky; seven grandchildren, Julie E. Cantrell and husband Justin, Chelsea Ann Mays, C. J. Mays, Clyde Douglas Mays and wife Melissa, DeAnna Lynn Collins and husband John, William Patrick Mays, and Jeffrey Scott Mays and wife Julie; and nine great grandchildren.

One sister, Cledith Hanshaw of Morehead, Kentucky, also survives.

Mr. Mays served his country as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II as a heavy machine gunner. He was wounded in action and was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Bronze Battle Star, and Purple Heart.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather, his primary interests in life were his family and church. He was a hobby farmer and also enjoyed horses and cattle. An ordained Elder since 1968, he was a member of the Lytten Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Lytten Apostolic Church with Bishop Denzil B. Fannin and the Rev. Arnold Ison officiating. Burial will follow in the Mays Family Cemetery at Elliottville, Kentucky, with full military rites conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126.

Pallbearers will be Clyde Douglas Mays, William Patrick Mays, Jeffrey Scott Mays, John A. Collins, Justin G. Cantrell, Raymond Waddell Sr., Danny E. Lewis, Raymond Waddell, Jr., Phillip Waddell, and Michael Hitch.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals in

Morehead and after 12 noon Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Lytten Apostolic Church of Jesus

Christ in Elliott County.

Faye McCleese
1922-2008

MOREHEAD – Faye McCleese, 85, of Cranston Road passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at her residence.

She was born on August 26, 1922 in Frankfort, Ohio, a daughter of the late Robert and Sally Stone Cooper.

Mrs. McCleese was a former employee of Morehead State University. She was a member of the Church of God and she enjoyed flowers, quilting, gardening and canning.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde McCleese who passed away in 1975, one son, Earsel McCleese, two brothers, Arthur Cooper and Henry Cooper and one sister, Ellen Plank.

Survivors include three sons, Wilburn McCleese and his wife, Pat of Independence, Kentucky, Donald McCleese and his wife, Kathy and Arthur McCleese and his wife, Bernice all of Morehead, two brothers, Lowell Cooper of Elliottville and Paul Cooper of Flemingsburg, one sister, Ruby Kinder of Chillicothe, Ohio, eight grandchildren, Kim Logan, Eddie McCleese, Brenda Kissick, Tawnya Miller, Dewayne McCleese, Earsel McCleese, Jr., Dale McCleese and Wilma Logan, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Carlos Bowman and Rev. William “Rusty” Hedrick officiating. Burial was in the Adams-Plank Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dale McCleese, Dewayne McCleese, Eddie McCleese, Earsel McCleese, Jr., Rick Logan, Casey Shay and Bryan Miller.

Landen Lee Stamper
2007-2008

MOREHEAD – Landen Lee Stamper, two-month-old son of Sharon Suttles and Tony Stamper of Wildflower Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at his residence.

He was born November 18, 2007, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky.

In addition to his parents, Landen is survived by two sisters, Leighann Lynn Stamper of Morehead, Kentucky, and Holly Stamper of Olive Hill, Kentucky and one brother, Jacob McGlone of Olive Hill, Kentucky. Other survivors include his maternal grandparents, Teresa Griffey McRoberts and Larry McRoberts of Olive Hill, Kentucky, and Samuel Suttles of Grayson, Kentucky; paternal grandparents, Bob and Ruth Cline Stamper of Salt Lick, Kentucky; and maternal great grandmother, Jeanine Griffey of Olive Hill, Kentucky, wife of the late Paul Griffey; and special friends, Bridgett Conn, Shelly Estes, Mark Mocabee, Mary Lou Hinton, and Aunt Lisa.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Pastor Tim Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Carter County, Kentucky.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.

Kitty Wilson
1940-2008

BRIGHAM CITY – Katherine Kathleen (Kitty) Wilson, 67, passed away February 4, 2008 at her home.

She was born on April 14, 1940 in Woburn, Massachusetts to Burton and Martha Reed.

Kitty enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren, they were the light of her life.

She enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, painting, and sewing. Kitty enjoyed caring for her flowers and plants. She attended rendezvous when she had the opportunity. Kitty lived most of her life in Kentucky.

Later in life while her two youngest children were attending High School, Kitty returned to school to continue her education as an artist at Morehead State University. Due to illness she was unable to graduate but made it to her senior year. Kitty was very proud to be on the Dean’s list her last few years as a student.

Her children moved her to Utah in 2005 to be closer to them.

Kitty is survived by her children; Tim Harville, Dynel (David Pizzini) Harville, Shawn (Barb) Harville, Rich (Trish) Shields, Tom (Michelle) Wilson, and Taunya Wilson Kay, 17 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her siblings; Alberta Chapman, Joel Waits, Hobart Waits, and Charles Reed.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City.

Kitty’s wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes spread over the Cherokee Trail of Tears. A memorial will be held at a later time.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Myers Mortuary to help with the cost of the funeral arrangements.

Miriam Sperry Stephens Burton
1935-2008

MOREHEAD – Miriam Sperry Stephens Burton, age 72, of Sharkey passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born in South Shore, Kentucky, on November 6, 1935, to the late Roscoe Stephens and Nellie Margaret (Sperry) Stephens.

A graduate of Morehead State University, Miriam taught in the elementary grades for 27 years, retiring from the Rowan County Public School system in 1991. She had also taught for the Greenup and Boyd County systems. She was a dedicated teacher, receiving awards too numerous to mention and touching countless students’ lives in the process.

Known for her infectious laughter and commitment to God, Miriam was a member of Gearheart Community Church, which her husband founded and where he pastored until his death.

Miriam was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, the Reverend Ivis Leon Burton, and two sons, Stephen Leon Burton and Timothy Paul Burton, as well as her parents and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Kilgore.

She is survived by a sister, Lenore Shipley of Bonifay, Florida, a brother, Edward Stephens of Maloneton, many nieces and nephews and one daughter, Elizabeth Grace Burton of Morehead, who was the light of her life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 21, 2008 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. James E. Wiley of Cincinnati officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellefonte Memorial Gardens in Bellefonte, Kentucky. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be William Shipley, Creighton Stephens, Jason Conley, Jon Stephens, Blane Kissick and David Johnson.

Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.
